  • Measurements of relative Throughput in Reverberation Chamber using Universal Software Radio Peripheral
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: 8th European Conference on Antennas and Propagation, EuCAP 2014, The Hague, The Netherlands 6-11 April 2014. - 2164-3342. - 9788890701849 ; , s. 1105-1108
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper aims to show how Universal Software Radio Peripheral can be used in conjunction with reverberation chamber to measure throughput of wireless communication systems in Rich Isotropic Multipath environment. The results are in agreement with theories based on the threshold receiver model.

  • Antenna Measurements in Reverberation Chamber Using USRP
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: IEEE Transactions on Antennas and Propagation. - : Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). - 0018-926X .- 1558-2221. ; 64:3, s. 1152-1157
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper shows that a universal software radio peripheral (USRP) can be used to measure the complete passive over-the-air (OTA) performance of multipart antennas for multiple-input multiple output (MIMO) systems. The passive MIMO OTA measurements are performed in a reverberation chamber using the USRP as a measurement instrument. The total embedded radiation efficiencies, the correlation, and the resulting diversity gain are extracted from transmission measurements only. These are in good agreement with S-parameter measurements (both transmission and reflection) obtained with a vector network analyzer (VNA). The proposed measurement approach involving USRPs provide an economical alternative to these type of measurements as compared to high-end equipment.

  • MIMO OTA Testing of a Communication System Using SDRs in a Reverberation Chamber
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: IEEE Antennas and Propagation Magazine. - : Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). - 1045-9243. ; 57:2, s. 44-53
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper presents a study of measuring complete over-the-air (OTA) system performance of software-defined radios (SDRs) such as the Universal Software Radio Peripheral (USRP) developed by Ettus Research and National Instruments. We use the reverberation chamber (RC) for measuring the OTA system throughput (TPUT) when the USRP is configured in single-input single-output, 1 x 2 single-input multiple-output, 2 x 1 multiple-input single-output, and 2 x 2 multiple-input multiple-output. The measured and simulated results are compared. The theoretical model of an ideal threshold receiver is used to simulate the OTA TPUT of the USRP. The total radiated power and total isotropic sensitivity of the USRP is also measured inside the RC. According to the authors' knowledge, complete active system performance measurements of USRPs in an RC are being published for the first time.

  • Comparing Throughputs of 2×2 Spatial Multiplexing MIMO Systems with and without CSI at the Transmit Side in Rich Isotropic Multipath Environments
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: 8th European Conference on Antennas and Propagation, EuCAP 2014, The Hague, The Netherlands 6-11 April 2014. - 2164-3342. - 9788890701849 ; , s. 3493-3494
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems are attracting more and more attention due to the need of high spectral efficiency. Simple yet accurate throughput models are highly desired for studying the MIMO performance. MIMO throughput models based on the threshold receiver have been studied in [1], [2]. Specifically, a single-input multiple-output (SIMO) throughput model based on the concept of the threshold receiver was presented in [1]. The SIMO throughput model was extended to MIMO systems with full spatial multiplexing in [2], where only the open-loop configuration is studied.

  • Improved MIMO Throughput With Inverse Power Allocation - Study Using USRP Measurement in Reverberation Chamber
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: IEEE Antennas and Wireless Propagation Letters. - 1548-5757 .- 1536-1225. ; 13, s. 1494-1496
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this letter, we study the spatial multiplexing throughputs of multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) systems with fixed modulation and coding scheme (i.e., fixed peak rate) based on measurement of the universal software radio peripheral (USRP) in a reverberation chamber. In particular, we propose a simple inverse power allocation scheme for the singular value decomposition (SVD)-based MIMO system. Using the proposed power allocation, the power saving (for achieving the same throughput), compared to the SVD-MIMO without power allocation, is about 2.5 dB. Good agreement is observed between the USRP measurement and the simulation.
