  • Supervised and unsupervised learning in vision-guided robotic bin picking applications for mixed-model assembly
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Procedia CIRP. - : Elsevier BV. - 2212-8271. ; 104, s. 1304-1309
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Mixed-model assembly usually involves numerous component variants that require effective materials supply. Here, picking activities are often performed manually, but the prospect of robotics for bin picking has potential to improve quality while reducing man-hour consumption. Robots can make use of vision systems to learn how to perform their tasks. This paper aims to understand the differences in two learning approaches, supervised learning, and unsupervised learning. An experiment containing engineering preparation time (EPT) and recognition quality (RQ) is performed. The findings show an improved RQ but longer EPT with a supervised compared to an unsupervised approach.

  • Evaluating Cobots For Final Assembly
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Procedia CIRP. - : Elsevier BV. - 2212-8271. ; 44, s. 175-180
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Collaborative robots becomes more and more common in lab environment and soon also in industry. In order to create resource- and volume flexibility, dynamic and smart automation could be seen as an answer. This paper has investigated the collaborative robots UR3 and UR5 for O-ring assembly and final assembly, compared to the current state which is performed manually. The methodology Dynamo++ was used for measurement and analysis in terms of LoA (cognitive and physical), cycle-time and quality. Furthermore, automation strategy, safety and easiness of programming was investigated. Results show that collaborative robots have great potential in the middle product volume area. A lot of time, layout space and money could be saved with these solutions. However, standards and safety has to be investigated further in order to reach its fully potential

  • Studies on Minimum Quantity Lubrication (MQL) at Drilling
  • 2007
  • Ingår i: Journal of Materials Processing Technology. - : Elsevier BV. - 0924-0136. ; 200:1-3, s. 339-346
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In the recent years a lot has been done to avoid the cutting fluids from the production.Dry cutting and semi-dry cutting such as Minimum Quantity Lubrication (MQL) have been favored by the industry. However, one of the main limitations in the application ofMQL is that the full mechanism has not yet been fully understood. This paper deals withthe results obtained at cutting with MQL at different oil amounts, dry compressed air andemulsion. The results are discussed in terms of wear, chip contact, forces/torques andsurface finish. The short hole drilling tests with indexable inserts showed that MQL andcompressed air usage have resulted lower wear both on the center and periphery insertcompared to drilling with emulsion. The surface finish values have shown that; cuttingwith compressed air resulted in side flow and sticking of the work piece material on thewalls of the hole that gave bad surface finish. The longer chips were evidenced foremulsion in comparison to MQL and air assisted drilling.

  • Interoperability for a Dynamic Assembly System
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Procedia CIRP. - : Elsevier BV. - 2212-8271. ; 44, s. 407-411
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • There are many challenges for the manufacturing industry when building and maintaining interoperable information systems. Automation and related information systems are often implemented in controlled and secure environments that lead to autonomous disconnected islands. This study presents two innovative solutions that exemplify both horizontal and vertical systems integration. The solutions have been implemented and tested on a flexible and mobile assembly system with equipment from different suppliers.
