  • Introduction of a multimodal pain rehabilitation intervention in primary care : a pilot study
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Journal of Rehabilitation Medicine - Clinical Communications. - : Medical Journals Sweden AB. - 2003-0711. ; 6
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Objective: To evaluate patient-reported outcome measures in patients with chronic musculoskeletal pain 1 year after participation in a case manager-led multimodal rehabilitation intervention in a Finnish primary care centre. Changes in healthcare utilization (HCU) were also explored. Methods: A prospective pilot study with 36 participants. The intervention consisted of screening, multidisciplinary team assessment, a rehabilitation plan and case manager follow-up. Data were collected through questionnaires filled in after the team assessment and 1 year later. HCU data 1 year before and 1 year after team assessment were compared. Results: At follow-up, satisfaction with vocational situation, self-reported work ability and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) had improved and pain intensity had diminished significantly for all participants. The participants who reduced their HCU improved their activity level and HRQoL. Early intervention by a psychologist and mental health nurse was distinctive for the participants who reduced HCU at follow-up.Conclusion: The findings demonstrate the importance of early biopsychosocial management of patients with chronic pain in primary care. Identification of psychological risk factors at an early stage may lead to better psychosocial wellbeing, improve coping strategy and reduce HCU. A case manager may free up other resources and thereby contribute to cost savings.

  • Analysis of Mismatch Effects in Randomly Interleaved A/D Converter System
  • 2005
  • Ingår i: IEEE Transactions on Circuits And Systems Part I. - : Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). - 1057-7122 .- 1558-1268. ; 52:3, s. 465-476
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • To significantly increase the sampling rate of an A/D converter (ADC), a time interleaved ADC system is a good option. The drawback of a time interleaved ADC system is that the ADCs are not exactly identical due to errors in the manufacturing process. This means that time, gain and offset mismatch errors are introduced in the ADC system. These errors cause non harmonic distortion in the sampled signal. One way to decrease the impact of the mismatch errors is to spread the distortion over a wider frequency range by randomizing the order in which the ADCs are used in the interleaved structure. In this paper we analyze how the spectrum is affected by mismatch errors in a randomly interleaved ADC system. We also discuss how the mismatch errors can be estimated.

  • Visby Innerstad : En användningsplan
  • 1973

  • Fast and Accurate Nanoparticle Characterization Using Deep-Learning-Enhanced Off-Axis Holography
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: ACS Nano. - : American Chemical Society (ACS). - 1936-0851 .- 1936-086X. ; 15:2, s. 2240-2250
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Characterization of suspended nanoparticles in their native environment plays a central role in a wide range of fields, from medical diagnostics and nanoparticle-enhanced drug delivery to nanosafety and environmental nanopollution assessment. Standard optical approaches for nanoparticle sizing assess the size via the diffusion constant and, as a consequence, require long trajectories and that the medium has a known and uniform viscosity. However, in most biological applications, only short trajectories are available, while simultaneously, the medium viscosity is unknown and tends to display spatiotemporal variations. In this work, we demonstrate a label-free method to quantify not only size but also refractive index of individual subwavelength particles using 2 orders of magnitude shorter trajectories than required by standard methods and without prior knowledge about the physicochemical properties of the medium. We achieved this by developing a weighted average convolutional neural network to analyze holographic images of single particles, which was successfully applied to distinguish and quantify both size and refractive index of subwavelength silica and polystyrene particles without prior knowledge of solute viscosity or refractive index. We further demonstrate how these features make it possible to temporally resolve aggregation dynamics of 31 nm polystyrene nanoparticles, revealing previously unobserved time-resolved dynamics of the monomer number and fractal dimension of individual subwavelength aggregates.

  • Size and Refractive Index Determination of Subwavelength Particles and Air Bubbles by Holographic Nanoparticle Tracking Analysis
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Analytical Chemistry. - : American Chemical Society (ACS). - 0003-2700 .- 1520-6882. ; 92:2, s. 1908-1915
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Determination of size and refractive index (RI) of dispersed unlabeled subwavelength particles is of growing interest in several fields, including biotechnology, wastewater monitoring, and nanobubble preparations. Conventionally, the size distribution of such samples is determined via the Brownian motion of the particles, but simultaneous determination of their R1 remains challenging. This work demonstrates nanoparticle tracking analysis (NTA) in an off-axis digital holographic microscope (DHM) enabling determination of both particle size and RI of individual subwavelength particles from the combined information about size and optical phase shift. The potential of the method to separate particle populations is demonstrated by analyzing a mixture of three types of dielectric particles within a narrow size range, where conventional NTA methods based on Brownian motion alone would fail. Using this approach, the phase shift allowed individual populations of dielectric beads overlapping in either size or RI to be clearly distinguished and quantified with respect to these properties. The method was furthermore applied for analysis of surfactant-stabilized micro- and nanobubbles, with RI lower than that of water. Since bubbles induce a phase shift of opposite sign to that of solid particles, they were easily distinguished from similarly sized solid particles made up of undissolved surfactant. Surprisingly, the dependence of the phase shift on bubble size indicates that only those with 0.15-0.20 mu m radius were individual bubbles, whereas larger bubbles were actually clusters of bubbles. This label-free means to quantify multiple parameters of suspended individual submicrometer particles offers a crucial complement to current characterization strategies, suggesting broad applicability for a wide range of nanoparticle systems.

  • Mapping prostatic microscopic anisotropy using linear and spherical b-tensor encoding : A preliminary study
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Magnetic Resonance in Medicine. - : Wiley. - 0740-3194 .- 1522-2594. ; 86:4, s. 2025-2033
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Purpose: Tensor-valued diffusion encoding provides more specific information than conventional diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI), but has mainly been applied in neuroimaging studies. This study aimed to assess its potential for the imaging of prostate cancer (PCa). Methods: Seventeen patients with histologically proven PCa were enrolled. DWI of the prostate was performed with linear and spherical tensor encoding using a maximal b-value of 1.5 ms/µm2 and a voxel size of 3 × 3 × 4 mm3. The gamma-distribution model was used to estimate the mean diffusivity (MD), the isotropic kurtosis (MKI), and the anisotropic kurtosis (MKA). Regions of interest were placed in MR-defined cancerous tissues, as well as in apparently healthy tissues in the peripheral and transitional zones (PZs and TZs). Results: DWI with linear and spherical encoding yielded different image contrasts at high b-values, which enabled the estimation of MKA and MKI. Compared with healthy tissue (PZs and TZs combined) the cancers displayed a significantly lower MD (P <.05), higher MKI (P < 10−5), and lower MKA (P <.05). Compared with the TZ, tissue in the PZ showed lower MD (P < 10−3) and higher MKA (P < 10−3). No significant differences were found between cancers of different Gleason scores, possibly because of the limited sample size. Conclusion: Tensor-valued diffusion encoding enabled mapping of MKA and MKI in the prostate. The elevated MKI in PCa compared with normal tissues suggests an elevated heterogeneity in the cancers. Increased in-plane resolution could improve tumor delineation in future studies.

  • Diffusion-Informed Spatial Smoothing of fMRI Data in White Matter Using Spectral Graph Filters
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: NeuroImage. - : Elsevier. - 1053-8119 .- 1095-9572. ; 237
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Brain activation mapping using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) has been extensively studied in brain gray matter (GM), whereas in large disregarded for probing white matter (WM). This unbalanced treatment has been in part due to controversies in relation to the nature of the blood oxygenation level-dependent (BOLD) contrast in WM and its detachability. However, an accumulating body of studies has provided solid evidence of the functional significance of the BOLD signal in WM and has revealed that it exhibits anisotropic spatio-temporal correlations and structure-specific fluctuations concomitant with those of the cortical BOLD signal. In this work, we present an anisotropic spatial filtering scheme for smoothing fMRI data in WM that accounts for known spatial constraints on the BOLD signal in WM. In particular, the spatial correlation structure of the BOLD signal in WM is highly anisotropic and closely linked to local axonal structure in terms of shape and orientation, suggesting that isotropic Gaussian filters conventionally used for smoothing fMRI data are inadequate for denoising the BOLD signal in WM. The fundamental element in the proposed method is a graph-based description of WM that encodes the underlying anisotropy observed across WM, derived from diffusion-weighted MRI data. Based on this representation, and leveraging graph signal processing principles, we design subject-specific spatial filters that adapt to a subject’s unique WM structure at each position in the WM that they are applied at. We use the proposed filters to spatially smooth fMRI data in WM, as an alternative to the conventional practice of using isotropic Gaussian filters. We test the proposed filtering approach on two sets of simulated phantoms, showcasing its greater sensitivity and specificity for the detection of slender anisotropic activations, compared to that achieved with isotropic Gaussian filters. We also present WM activation mapping results on the Human Connectome Project’s 100-unrelated subject dataset, across seven functional tasks, showing that the proposed method enables the detection of streamline-like activations within axonal bundles.

  • An Improved Procedure for the Synthesis of Bicyclo[2.2.2]octane- 2,6-dione
  • 1993
  • Ingår i: Synthetic Communications. - : Informa UK Limited. - 0039-7911 .- 1532-2432. ; 23:11, s. 1499-1505
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Conjugate addition of Meldrum's acid to 2-cyclohexenone followed by direct cyclization in PPA/acetic acid constitutes a shorter, more reproducible and higher yielding route to bicyclo[2.2.2]octane-2,6-dione than previous methods. The crude dione could be used as substrate for the baker's yeast reduction to (IR, 4S, 6S)-bicyclo[2.2.2]octane-6-ol-2-one.

  • The association between patterns of women’s daily occupations and alcohol consumption; a cluster analytic approach.
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: 35th Annual Alcohol Epidemiology Symposium of the Kettil Bruun Society, Köpenhamn, DK 2009601-05.
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Earlier studies on women's health and women's drinking and contemporary associated risk factors have highlighted the need for more complex approaches in understanding the pathways into women's problem drinking. Research from both social science and occupational therapy theory have underlined the importance of deconstructing the often dichotomised way of investigating women's daily lives (such as in paid and unpaid work or in work and leisure) when discussing factors from the daily life environment and their impact on health issues. The aim of this study is to explore the relationship between patterns of women's daily occupation and alcohol consumption using the broader concept of occupation from occupational therapy theory. Method: A cross-sectional study with data from the latest wave (2000) of a population-based project, Women and Alcohol in Göteborg (WAG). The study group consists of in total 871 women, aged 20-55 years. For identifying different groups of occupational patterns we are using an individual oriented method; Two-step clustering. Further we aim to use analyses of variance to analyse if there are specific occupational patterns related to problematic alcohol consumption. The specific variables constituting the patterns of daily occupations in this study are employment status, leisure, distribution of household/maintenance work, time for free disposal and the satisfaction with each of these four domains. Preliminary results will be presented.
