  • Mb Osler: ökad risk för infektioner och livshotande komplikationer : Fyra fall av invasiv infektionssjukdom under samma tidsperiod beskrivs
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Läkartidningen. - Stockholm : Sveriges läkarförbund. - 0023-7205 .- 1652-7518. ; 109:37, s. 1613-1615
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract

  • Road surface information system
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the 16th SIRWEC conference. - : Standing International Road Weather Commission.
  • Konferensbidrag (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • In order to classify the road condition, dry asphalt and asphalt covered with water, ice and snow a technique using a sensor called Road eye is presented. The Road eye sensor uses three wavelengths and one photo detector to determine the intensities that are reflected from the road surface and is then able to estimate the road condition. By linking the Road eye sensor to a GPS and a Mulle, a miniature wireless Embedded Internet System, the road conditions can be associated with the correct road position, making it possible to use the information in many different applications.

  • MAFA and MAFB regulate exocytosis-related genes in human β-cells
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Acta Physiologica. - : Wiley. - 1748-1716 .- 1748-1708. ; 234:2
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • AIMS: Reduced expression of exocytotic genes is associated with functional defects in insulin exocytosis contributing to impaired insulin secretion and type 2 diabetes (T2D) development. MAFA and MAFB transcription factors regulate β-cell physiology, and their gene expression is reduced in T2D β cells. We investigate if loss of MAFA and MAFB in human β cells contributes to T2D progression by regulating genes required for insulin exocytosis.METHODS: Three approaches were performed: (1) RNAseq analysis with the focus on exocytosis-related genes in MafA-/- mouse islets, (2) correlational analysis between MAFA, MAFB and exocytosis-related genes in human islets and (3) MAFA and MAFB silencing in human islets and EndoC-βH1 cells followed by functional in vitro studies.RESULTS: The expression of 30 exocytosis-related genes was significantly downregulated in MafA-/- mouse islets. In human islets, the expression of 29 exocytosis-related genes correlated positively with MAFA and MAFB. Eight exocytosis-related genes were downregulated in MafA-/- mouse islets and positively correlated with MAFA and MAFB in human islets. From this analysis, the expression of RAB3A, STXBP1, UNC13A, VAMP2, NAPA, NSF, STX1A and SYT7 was quantified after acute MAFA or MAFB silencing in EndoC-βH1 cells and human islets. MAFA and MAFB silencing resulted in impaired insulin secretion and reduced STX1A, SYT7 and STXBP1 (EndoC-βH1) and STX1A (human islets) mRNA expression. STX1A and STXBP1 protein expression was also impaired in islets from T2D donors which lack MAFA expression.CONCLUSION: Our data indicate that STXBP1 and STX1A are important MAFA/B-regulated exocytosis genes which may contribute to insulin exocytosis defects observed in MAFA-deficient human T2D β cells.

  • Nutrition, health and climate : What have we learned so far?
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Conference on Food Science and Nutrition: “Forum for food science and nutrition for a better tomorrow”, 25–26 February 2019, Rome, Italy.
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Food and meals are central elements in our lives: a source of pleasure, a social activity and a bearer of culture. Our eating habits are also very important to health, which implies that the organization and content of meals is a prerequisite for well-being and learning. Schools, in particular, have unique opportunities to promote healthy lifestyles, help develop good eating habits and raise environmental and climate awareness among children and youths by embedding food in a wider context. Unsurprisingly, there is also an increasing interest in school meals and food-related education among researchers, many of whom agree that the quality of school meals can be seen as one of the most accurate indicators of the cities’ sustainability potential. Systematic quality work, however, requires shared targets and ambitions, regular quality checks and discussions on development and improvement. In that vein, the City of Gothenburg has launched the project Urban Rural Gothenburg, which assembles, develops, tests and implements new solutions for the city’s public kitchens. This involves climate-smart and environmentally sound perspectives and programs regarding meal planning, food procurement, food preparation and food-related teaching and learning. One important approach deals with the normalization of increased vegetarian consumption and greater awareness of food’s origins and travel from farm to table. Another approach deals with conscious choices of raw materials that are beneficial for both the environment and health. A third notable approach focuses on new ways of handling food waste to reduce climate impact. In line with the third Sustainable Development Goal, this presentation captures and reaffirms the fundamental assumptions and methods involved in Gothenburg’s work with food sustainability in public kitchens, with an emphasis on health and climate as cross-cutting issues that matter to us all.

  • A Framework for Fatigue Analysis of Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer Structures
  • 2023
  • Doktorsavhandling (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Our society depends on functional road communication, and Heavy Duty Vehicles (HDVs) offer convenient and limitless possibilities of transport and services. However, HDVs account for a quarter of the European Union's CO2 road emissions. There is a substantial need to reduce the CO2 emissions of HDVs to ensure a low negative environmental impact. To reduce the CO2 emissions of HDVs, their energy usage must be reduced. One way to reduce energy usage is to improve the structural efficiency of the vehicle and use high-performance composite materials such as Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymers (CFRP). HDVs are continuously exposed to road-induced vibrations, and the fatigue loading often sets the design criteria for HDV components. Therefore, flexible simulation frameworks are needed to encourage and simplify the implementation of composite materials in engineering structural designs dimensioned for fatigue. This doctoral thesis proposes a probabilistic modeling framework for fatigue assessment of CFRP. The thesis aims to provide knowledge and insights into the fatigue modeling of composite materials and a better understanding of the proposed modeling framework.A combination of experimental investigations and numerical modeling is conducted. To carry out fatigue testing, a fatigue testing procedure was established. Fatigue testing of anisotropic material involves accurately selecting process parameters to obtain specimens that fail in the gauge length. The fatigue damage progression of CFRP laminates was monitored throughout the fatigue tests by analyzing the stiffness change, finding that the initial stiffness loss can be related to the damage development of the specimens. Composite materials are multi-scale, where constituents and damage are of a much lower order length scale than the laminate and structure. Therefore, the numerical modeling uses a two-scale modeling approach to capture the variability of a composite laminate. First, the micro-scale modeling uses Representative Volume Elements (RVE) to determine the effective macro-mechanical properties of a composite lamina. The RVE models are generated based on experimental data capturing micro-geometrical variations that could affect the composite laminate behavior. Second, macro-scale models, capturing the complexity and variability of composite materials, are used in a probabilistic modeling approach for fatigue assessment. A Weibull distribution in a weakest link formulation is used to consider the combined effect of material variability of a CFRP laminate. The work proposes a probabilistic fatigue modeling framework for implementation in an industrial design process. The methodology is highly valuable in the progress of fatigue modeling of composites. It aims to encourage and simplify the implementation of composites in engineering structural designs and components dimensioned for fatigue. The insights and outcomes of this doctoral thesis play a crucial role in the advancement of future resource-efficient vehicles and an optimal selection of materials to design for the right material in the right place.

  • A life cycle energy and weight comparison of a carbon fibercomposite versus metallic component in a commercial vehicle
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: A life cycle energy and weight comparison of a carbon fibercomposite versus metallic component in a commercialvehicle.
  • Konferensbidrag (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Lightweight design is important for Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs), to minimize the effects from the added weight of the batteries. The study looks at the benefits and  disadvantages of choosing a Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer (CFRP) material in comparison to metallic material for a specific battery electric commercial vehicle component. A Life Cycle Energy (LCE) and weight analysis are the basis for the comparison. Other aspects that could be considered important for the industrial implementation, such as cost, are also discussed. The LCE is assessed using a combination of engineering process modelling, available data from industrial partners, and data available in the literature. The analysis is aimed to support a holistic comparison, which means the modelling is performed on an overarching level of detail.

  • A Statistical Porosity Characterization Approach of Carbon-Fiber-Reinforced Polymer Material Using Optical Microscopy and Neural Network
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Materials. - : MDPI. - 1996-1944. ; 15:19
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The intensified pursuit for lightweight solutions in the commercial vehicle industry increases the demand for method development of more advanced lightweight materials such as Carbon-Fiber-Reinforced Composites (CFRP). The behavior of these anisotropic materials is challenging to understand and manufacturing defects could dramatically change the mechanical properties. Voids are one of the most common manufacturing defects; they can affect mechanical properties and work as initiation sites for damage. It is essential to know the micromechanical composition of the material to understand the material behavior. Void characterization is commonly conducted using optical microscopy, which is a reliable technique. In the current study, an approach based on optical microscopy, statistically characterizing a CFRP laminate with regard to porosity, is proposed. A neural network is implemented to efficiently segment micrographs and label the constituents: void, matrix, and fiber. A neural network minimizes the manual labor automating the process and shows great potential to be implemented in repetitive tasks in a design process to save time. The constituent fractions are determined and they show that constituent characterization can be performed with high accuracy for a very low number of training images. The extracted data are statistically analyzed. If significant differences are found, they can reveal and explain differences in the material behavior. The global and local void fraction show significant differences for the material used in this study and are good candidates to explain differences in material behavior. © 2022 by the authors.

  • A systematic literature review ofempirical research ontechnology education inearly childhood education
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Technology and Design Education. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 0957-7572 .- 1573-1804. ; 33:3, s. 793-818
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Technology education in early childhood education (ECE) has only recently been established internationally as a curriculum content area. The interdisciplinary character of technology education and its status as a field under development occasion a need to distinguish and define technology in the merging of disciplines. This literature review presents an overview of technology education in ECE in recent empirical studies. The literature review was carried out systematically, resulting in 23 studies that were scrutinised to present an overall picture regarding study design, findings and how technology is characterised. The analysis of the nature of technology in the reviewed studies builds on DiGironimo’s (Int J Sci Education, 33(10):1337–1352. https://doi.org/ 10. 1080/ 09500 693. 2010. 495400, 2011) conceptual framework, representing five distinct but merging dimensions of an ever-changing human technological creation process. In the synthesised findings, four subthemes derived from the studies’ overall themes were identified: two focusing on preschool teachers and pre-service teachers, and two focusing on technology activities with children. The aligned outcomes are discussed concerning the conceptual dimensions of technology, along with possibilities, challenges and implications for the current field of research on technology education in ECE.
