- In the battlefield of the future, more and more information will be available for making decisions on a tactical level, provided that this information can be dispersed rapidly and accurately. As a consequence, advanced tactical decision support that now is limited to advanced platforms (e.g. combat aircrafts) will become available at a much lower level, ranging from different kinds of vehicles, down to the individual soldier by means of ultra-light weight ``wearable'' equipment. Establishing reliable wireless communications in such a large group of users with unprecidented bandwidth demands and requirements on survivability constitutes a considerable enginerring challenge. In the paper we will, after a short review of some existing approaches, investigate the specific engineering challenges and the fundamental limitations of such low level, autonomous communication systems. Further we give an example of a system architecture, harmonized with a proposed structure for third generation commercial wireless systems (e.g. UMTS). Our conclusions show that mainly distributed computing complexity, device power consumption and available bandwidth constitute the fundamental problems.

- The aim of this thesis is to contribute to deeper knowledge about the writing practices of teachers in upper secondary school. Schools are under constant pressure to respond to the needs and expectations of an ever-changing society and political intentions. A major factor in this change which is taking place in schools is digitalization. Another factor is the adoption of new governing principles for schools involving management by goals and results, which brings increased demands for written documentation of teachers' work.In order to describe and problematize this development the thesis is based on a combination of Critical Discourse Analysis and New Literacy (Clark and Ivanič, 1997). The theoretical framework rests upon an understanding of writing as social action and the idea that texts both affect and are affected by the social environment. The empirical study focuses on twelve teachers and their writing practices, analyzed during week-long field visits over three years. The teachers' talk about their writing is used together with analyses of texts and images to investigate parts of teachers' writing which, according to the teachers, are considered complex and problematic.The findings indicate significant differences between the writing practices of the individual teachers, where each teacher has his or her own system of texts fulfilling different purposes. Despite these differences it is still possible to identify recurrent themes in the discursive conditions for teachers' writing: efficiency, reuse, authority, audit, relationships to addressees, and room to maneuver. The study illustrates possible dilemmas for teachers' writing at the intersection of teachers' professional responsibility and demands for accountability.

- An evaluation of the performance of coexistent voice and best effort data users in Enhanced Uplink WCDMA is studied in this paper. The main focus is on deriving the capacity regions and compare with previous WCDMA releases. It is shown that the Enhanced Uplink yields a large capacity gain in many aspects for all fractions of voice users compared to previous WCDMA releases. It is also shown, by the cumulative distribution functions of noise rise at the capacity limits, that the best effort data users experience bad quality at lower noise rise than voice users. This means that the capacity is in fact limited by the best effort users.

- OBJECTIVES/HYPOTHESIS: Data from patients registered for myringoplasty during 2002 to 2012 in the Swedish National Quality Registry for Myringoplasty.STUDY DESIGN: Both conventional myringoplasty and fat-graft techniques were used aimed at healing the tympanic membrane in noninfected ears.METHODS: Analysis was performed on data in a national database collected from 32 ear, nose, and throat clinics. Surgical procedures and outcomes, and patient satisfaction from a questionnaire were studied.RESULTS: The database was comprised of 3,775 surgical procedures, with follow-up available for analysis. One-third were children under the age of 15 years. The most common indication for surgery was infection prophylaxis. The overall healing rate of the tympanic membrane after surgery was 88.5%, with a high mean patient satisfaction. Complications registered were postoperative infection, tinnitus, or taste disturbance that occurred in 5.8% of patients.CONCLUSIONS: Swedish results for a large number of patients who completed myringoplasty are presented. The success rate in this study is comparable to other studies, and good patient-reported outcome measures of myringoplasty are presented. Databases for surgical procedures and clinical audits are systematic processes for continuous learning in healthcare. This study shows that clinical databases can be utilized to analyze national results of surgical procedures.LEVEL OF EVIDENCE: 2b Laryngoscope, 127:2389-2395, 2017.
