- This was a research and development work carried out together with The Swedish Food Institute (SIK), Gothenburg. In many respects was a matter of prospecting the authors' work within the Swedish automotive industry to another field of application. However, in this case, was one of the results a publication presented at a scientific conference. A comment: Publishing consumer reports was the praxis during this (early) period of time at Chalmers University of Technology, as well as probably at some other universities. This means that frequent and vast academic publication by means of e.g. conference papers and refereed contributions to scientific journals was almost unheard of. At least so for some of the applied science disciplines. However, today are the situation indeed very different (i.e. earlier was the publication in many respects focused on trying to satisfy the executive administrator the research foundation in question etc.). To be more precise, this early praxis was definitively the case for the research and development work carried out at the Department of Transportation (a broadly applied science discipline), which was characterized by more practical strives to e.g. engineer research results. Rather than relying on truer scientific efforts in a narrower sense. Functional satisfaction (i.e. something engineered work as planned instead verification/falsification of a hypothesis) was judged as being a primary aim of this research and development work. Therefore are (in the context of the publications registered in Chalmers Public Library CPL) the author making distinctions between consumer reports, on one hand. And, one the other hand, reports and preprints (manuscripts), while instead the academically orientated publications are various sort of scientific contributions presented at conferences or published in scientific journals (actually it is somewhat more complex, but further explanations are omitted here). The consumer reports were aimed at a various external organization with who the authors cooperated, and these are in many cases not available in PDF format to be easily read by logging in at CPL. This particular approach has judged as being fair/relevant fair in order to mirror of work conducted by the author or authors during the passing decades. Besides, the competencies at Chalmers Library, who actually have been very helpful, have not managed to provide appropriate answers to the various questions implied being at hand just above (this despite trying to get hold of such answers, hence this very comment).

- We have investigated the structure of in vivo formed transthyretin (TTR) amyloid deposits by using antisera raised against short linear sequences of the TTR molecule. In immunohistochemistry, antisera anti-TTR41-50 and anti-TTR115-124-a reacted specifically with both wildtype ATTR and ATTR V30M material, whereas only anti-TTR41-50 recognized ATTR Y114C material. Similar results were obtained by ELISA analysis of ATTR V30M and ATTR Y114C vitreous amyloid, where the anti-TTR115-124-a antiserum failed to react with ATTR Y114C material. Moreover, neither of the antisera recognized natively structured TTR present in pancreatic alpha cells. Our results strongly indicate that the TTR molecule undergoes structural changes during fibrillogenesis in vivo. The finding of a structural difference between wildtype ATTR and ATTR V30M material on one hand and ATTR Y114C material on the other suggests that the fibril formation pathway of these ATTR variants may differ in vivo.

- INTRODUCTION: Nursing students perform their clinical practice in different types of clinical settings. The clinical learning environment is important for students to be able to achieve desired learning outcomes. Knowledge is lacking about the learning environment in different clinical settings.AIM: The aim was to compare the learning environment in different clinical settings from the perspective of the nursing students.DESIGN: A cross-sectional study with comparative design was conducted.METHOD: Data was collected from 185 nursing students at three universities by means of a questionnaire involving the Clinical Learning Environment, Supervision and Nurse Teacher (CLES + T) evaluation scale. An open-ended question was added in order to ascertain reasons for dissatisfaction with the clinical placement.RESULTS: The nursing students' satisfaction with the placement did not differ between clinical settings. However, those with clinical placement in hospital departments agreed more strongly that sufficient meaningful learning situations occurred and that learning situations were multi-dimensional. Some students reported that the character of the clinical setting made it difficult to achieve the learning objectives.CONCLUSION: In the planning of the clinical placement, attention must be paid to whether the setting offers the student a meaningful learning situation where the appropriate learning outcome may be achieved.

- AIMS AND OBJECTIVES: To describe nursing students' experience of stress during clinical practice and evaluate the risk of stress in relation to the clinical setting characteristics and the organisation of the clinical education. BACKGROUND: Stress during clinical practice is well documented, but there is a lack of knowledge concerning whether the clinical setting characteristics and the organisation of the education make a difference. DESIGN: A cross-sectional study with evaluative design. METHODS: Data were collected by means of a numerical rating scale for the assessment of stress and questions about the clinical setting characteristics and the organisation of the education. One hundred and eighty-four students who had completed their final year on the nursing programme at three universities in Sweden were included. RESULTS: Nearly half of the students (43%) experienced high level of stress during clinical practice. Measured by decision in the tree analysis, the absolute risk of stress was 57% in students with placements in hospital departments, as compared to 13% in students with placements in other clinical settings. The risk of stress increased to 71% if the students with placement in a hospital took the national clinical final examination. Performance of practice in a hospital department overcrowded with patients was also associated with increased risk of stress. The organisation of supervision and number of students at the clinical placement had an effect on the experience of stress, but did not prove to be risk factors in the analysis. CONCLUSIONS: The risk of stress in nursing students during their clinical practice differs depending on clinical setting characteristics. The taking of the national clinical final examination could be a source of stress, but this requires further investigation. RELEVANCE TO CLINICAL PRACTICE: It is important that supervisors are aware that students in hospital departments overcrowded with patients are at risk of stress and may have increased need of support.

- The aim was to investigate occupational stress among newly graduated nurses in relation to the workplace and clinicla group supervision. Being a newly graduated nurse is particulary stressful. Whar remains unclear is wehter teh workplace and clinical group supervision affect the stress. A cross-sectional comperative study was performed. Data were collected by means of a numerical scale measuring occupational stress, questions about workplace and clinicla group supervision. One hundred and thirteen nusres were included in the study. Conclusions: Newly graduated nurses experience great strss and need support. Nusrse participating in clinical group supervision reported significantly less stress.

- Liver cell sap from normally fed rats, rats fed with a high-carbohydrate diet and fasted rats was chromatographed on DEAE-cellulose (pH 7.0). The chromatogram from each diet group was analyzed for pyruvate kinase activity and endogenous substrates of cyclic AMP-stimulated protein kinase. The materials were pooled into five phosphorylatable fractions, in each of which phosphate incorporation at 0.1 mM and 1.0 mM [32P]ATP in the presence of cyclic AMP and protein kinase was determined. For characterization of the phosphorylatable components, thin-layer gel chromatography on Sephadex G-200 and polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis in detergent were used for determination of native and minimal molecular weights, respectively. Except for pyruvate kinase, eight components which incorporated at least 0.05 nmol of [32P]phosphate/g of liver were detected. The phosphorylation of four of them was stimulated by cyclic AMP. Their minimal molecular weights were 42000, 21000, 52000 and 49000. The component with a minimal molecular weight of 42000 seemed to have a native molecular weight of 160000. Both the 21000 and the 52000 component had a native molecular weight of about 110000-120000. The protein with a minimal molecular weight of 49000 could not be correlated with certainty to a native molecular weight. The proteins whose phosphorylation was not stimulated by cyclic AMP had minimal molecular weights of 54000, 39000, 34000 and 22000.
