  • A Digital Swedish–Yiddish/Yiddish–Swedish Dictionary : A Web-Based Dictionary that is also Available Offline
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the EURALI Workshop @LREC2022.
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Yiddish is one of the national minority languages of Sweden, and one of the languages for which the Swedish Institute for Language and Folklore is responsible for developing useful language resources. We here describe the web-based version of a Swedish–Yiddish/Yiddish–Swedish dictionary. The single search field of the web-based dictionary is used for incrementally searching all three components of the dictionary entries (the word in Swedish, the word in Yiddish with Hebrew characters and the transliteration in Latin script). When the user accesses the dictionary in an online mode, the dictionary is saved in the web browser, which makes it possible to also use the dictionary offline.

  • Ash transformations in fluidized-bed combustion of rapeseed meal
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: Energy & Fuels. - : American Chemical Society (ACS). - 0887-0624 .- 1520-5029. ; 23:5, s. 2700-2706
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The global production of rapeoil is increasing. A byproduct is rapeseed meal that is a result of the oil extraction process. Presently the rapeseed meal mainly is utilized as animal feed. An interesting alternative use is, however, energy conversion by combustion. This study was undertaken to determine the combustion properties of rapeseed meal and bark mixtures in a bubbling fluidized bed, with emphasis on gas emissions, ash formation, -fractionation and -interaction with the bed material. Due to the high content of phosphorus in rapeseed meal the fuel ash is dominated by phosphates, in contrast to most woody biomass where the ash is dominated by silicates. From a fluidized bed combustion (FBC) point of view, rapeseed meal could be a suitable fuel. Considering FBC agglomeration effects, pure rapeseed meal is in level with the most suitable fuels, as earlier tested by the methods utilized in the present investigation. The SO2 emission, however, is higher than most woody biomass fuels as a direct consequence of the high levels of sulfur in the fuel. Also the particulate matter emission, both submicron and coarser particles, is higher. Again this can be attributed the high ash content of rapeseed meal. The high abundance of SO2 is apparently effective for sulfatization of KCl in the flue gas. Practically no KCl was observed in the particulate matter of the flue gas. A striking difference in the mechanisms of bed agglomeration for rapeseed meal compared to woody biomass fuels was also observed. The ubiquitous continuous layers on the bed grains found in FBC combustion of woody biomass fuels was not observed in the present investigation. Instead very thin and discontinuous layers were observed together with isolated partly melted bed ash particles. The latter could occasionally be seen as adhered to the quartz bed grains. Apparently the bed agglomeration mechanism, that obviously demanded rather high temperatures, involved more of adhesion by partly melted ash derived potassium-calcium phosphate bed ash particles/droplets than direct attack of gaseous alkali on the quartz bed grains forming potassium-calcium silicate rich bed grain layers. An explanation could be found in the considerable higher affinity for base cations of phosphorus than silicon. This will to a great extent withdraw the present basic oxides from attacking the quartz bed grains with agglomeration at low temperatures as a result.

  • Exploring the archives for textual entry points to speech - Experiences of interdisciplinary collaboration in making cultural heritage accessible for research
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: CEUR Workshop Proceedings. - Riga : CEUR-WS. ; , s. 45-55, s. 45-55
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Tilltal (Tillgängligt kulturarv för forskning i tal, 'Accessible cultural heritage for speech research') is a multidisciplinary and methodological project undertaken by the Institute of Language and Folklore, KTH Royal Institute of Technology, and The Swedish National Archives in cooperation with the National Language Bank and SWE-CLARIN [1]. It aims to provide researchers better access to archival audio recordings using methods from language technology. The project comprises three case studies and one activity and usage study. In the case studies, actual research agendas from three different fields (ethnology, sociolinguistics and interaction analysis) serve as a basis for identifying procedures that may be simplified with the aid of digital tools. In the activity and usage study, we are applying an activity-theoretical approach with the aim of involving researchers and investigating how they use - and would like to be able to use - the archival resources at ISOF. Involving researchers in participatory design ensures that digital solutions are suggested and evaluated in relation to the requirements expressed by researchers engaged in specific research tasks [2]. In this paper we focus on one of the case studies, which investigates the process by which personal experience narratives are transformed into cultural heritage [3], and account for our results in exploring how different types of text material from the archives can be used to find relevant sections of the audio recordings. Finally, we discuss what lessons can be learned, and what conclusions can be drawn, from our experiences of interdisciplinary collaboration in the project.

  • Features for modelling characteristics of conversations : Notebook for PAN at CLEF 2012
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: CLEF 2012 Evaluation Labs and Workshop Online Working Notes.
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this experiment, we find that features which model interaction andconversational behaviour contribute well to identifying sexual grooming behaviourin chat and forum text. Together with the obviously useful lexical features —which we find are more valuable if separated by who generates them — weachieve very successful results in identifying behavioural patterns which maycharacterise sexual grooming. We conjecture that the general framework can beused for other purposes than this specific case if the lexical features are exchangedfor other topical models, the conversational features characterise interaction andbehaviour rather than topical choice.

  • In vitro characterization of parasympathetic and sympathetic responses in cyclophosphamide-induced cystitis in the rat. : Electrical field stimulation in cystitis
  • 2007
  • Ingår i: Basic & clinical pharmacology & toxicology. - 1742-7835. ; 100:2, s. 96-108
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In cyclophosphamide-induced cystitis in the rat, detrusor function is impaired and the expression and effects of muscarinic receptors altered. Whether or not the neuronal transmission may be affected by cystitis was presently investigated. Responses of urinary strip preparations from control and cyclophosphamide-pretreated rats to electrical field stimulation and to agonists were assessed in the absence and presence of muscarinic, adrenergic and purinergic receptor antagonists. Generally, atropine reduced contractions, but in contrast to controls, it also reduced responses to low electrical field stimulation intensity (1-5 Hz) in inflamed preparations. In both types, purinoceptor desensitization with alpha,beta-methylene adenosine-5'-triphosphate (alpha,beta-meATP) caused further reductions at low frequencies (<10 Hz). The muscarinic receptor antagonists atropine, 4-diphenylacetoxy-N-methylpiperidine (4-DAMP) ('M(1)/M(3)/M(5)-selective'), methoctramine ('M(2)-selective') and pirenzepine ('M(1)-selective') antagonized the tonic component of the electrical field stimulation-evoked contractile response more potently than the phasic component. 4-DAMP inhibited the tonic contractions in controls more potently than methoctramine and pirenzepine. In inflamed preparations, the muscarinic receptor antagonism on the phasic component of the electrical field stimulation-evoked contraction was decreased and the pirenzepine and 4-DAMP antagonism on the tonic component was much less efficient than in controls. In contrast to controls, methoctramine increased -- instead of decreased -- the tonic responses at high frequencies. While contractions to carbachol and ATP were the same in inflamed and in control strips when related to a reference potassium response, isoprenaline-induced relaxations were smaller in inflamed strips. Thus, in cystitis substantial changes of the efferent functional responses occur. While postjunctional beta-adrenoceptor-mediated relaxations are reduced, effects by prejunctional inhibitory muscarinic receptors may be increased.
