  • The potential of Λ and Ξ- studies with PANDA at FAIR
  • 2021
  • In: European Physical Journal A. - : Springer Nature. - 1434-6001 .- 1434-601X. ; 57:4
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • The antiproton experiment PANDA at FAIR is designed to bring hadron physics to a new level in terms of scope, precision and accuracy. In this work, its unique capability for studies of hyperons is outlined. We discuss ground-state hyperons as diagnostic tools to study non-perturbative aspects of the strong interaction, and fundamental symmetries. New simulation studies have been carried out for two benchmark hyperon-antihyperon production channels: p¯ p→ Λ¯ Λ and p¯ p→ Ξ¯ +Ξ-. The results, presented in detail in this paper, show that hyperon-antihyperon pairs from these reactions can be exclusively reconstructed with high efficiency and very low background contamination. In addition, the polarisation and spin correlations have been studied, exploiting the weak, self-analysing decay of hyperons and antihyperons. Two independent approaches to the finite efficiency have been applied and evaluated: one standard multidimensional efficiency correction approach, and one efficiency independent approach. The applicability of the latter was thoroughly evaluated for all channels, beam momenta and observables. The standard method yields good results in all cases, and shows that spin observables can be studied with high precision and accuracy already in the first phase of data taking with PANDA.

  • Search for the eta mesic He-3 in the pd -> dp pi(0) reaction with the WASA-at-COSY facility
  • 2020
  • In: Physical Review C. Nuclear Physics. - : AMER PHYSICAL SOC. - 0556-2813 .- 1089-490X. ; 102:4
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • The excitation function for the pd -> dp pi(0) reaction has been measured byWASA-at-COSY experiment with the aim of searching for He-3-h mesic nuclei. The measurement in the vicinity of h meson production was performed using a ramped proton beam. The data analysis and interpretation was carried out with the assumption that the h mesic helium decays via the formation of an intermediate N*(1535) resonance. No direct signal of the. mesic nucleus is observed in the excitation function. We determine a new improved upper limit for the total cross section for the bound state production and decay in the pd -> (He-3-eta)(bound) -> dp pi(0) process. It varies between 13 nb to 24 nb for the bound state with width in the range Gamma is an element of ( 5, 50) MeV.

  • Search for narrow NN-decoupled resonances in the πNN-system : An overview
  • 1996
  • In: Progress in Particle and Nuclear Physics. - : Elsevier BV. - 0146-6410 .- 1873-2224. ; 36, s. 369-378
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • The status of the search for NN-decoupled resonances in the πNN-system is reviewed. After a short survey on the history of dibaryon searches reactions suitable for detecting such resonances are discussed. Special emphasis is put on the pionic double charge exchange, where recently evidence for the signature of a narrow πNN resonance, called d′, with I(J P) = even (0 -) and m = 2.06 GeV has been quoted. Further reactions discussed in this context are the pion photoproduction on the deuteron and the two-pion production in nucleon-nucleon collisions.

  • The WASA focussing light guide disc DIRC
  • 2012
  • In: Journal of Instrumentation. - 1748-0221. ; 7, s. C01002-
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • Two Disc DIRC prototypes have been designed and built and are shortly being tested with proton test beams. Different in design details, both aim to provide the WASA-at-COSY experiment with a particle velocity measurement that improves the missing mass resolution. This paper shows the difference in concept between these two designs and also compares to designs that have been proposed for PANDA.

  • High-resolution study of the C-12(gamma,p gamma')B-11 reaction using a HpGe detector to resolve excited states of B-11 through the observation of their gamma-ray decays
  • 2006
  • In: Physical Review C: covering nuclear physics. ; 73
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • Relative populations of states in 11B following the 12C(,p)11B reaction have been measured with high resolution using a 70% HpGe detector to observe decay rays from the residual nucleus. The triplet of states near 7 MeV in 11B are resolved and the measured populations compared to previous data. The analysis includes a consideration of -proton angular correlations, which was not made in the previous measurement. The new and previous results corrected for angular correlation effects agree reasonably well with calculations that include one- and two-body nuclear currents, pion exchange, and currents, under the assumption that the photons are mainly absorbed on exchanged pions.
