  • Entrepreneurship in the agricultural sector : A literature review and future research opportunities
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Entrepreneurship. - : Sage Publications. - 1042-2587 .- 1540-6520. ; 42:1, s. 129-166
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Heeding calls for contextualizing entrepreneurship research and for greater attention to the role of sector in entrepreneurship research, we conduct a systematic literature review of extant research in agricultural entrepreneurship. Recent and rapid vertical integration and rationalization within the agricultural sector provides a dynamic setting for scholars to investigate entrepreneurship theory and practice. We identify three key contextual dimensions of the agricultural sector: identity, family, and institutions, which provide promising opportunities for future research and the potential to contribute to and extend current theoretical and empirical analyses of entrepreneurship research.

  • Portfolio Entrepreneurship as Pathway for Positive Identity Development in Family Businesses
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Academy of Management Proceedings. - : Academy of Management.
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Drawing on identity theories and entrepreneurial identity, we examine how multiple identities relate and change across generation in the pursuit of portfolio entrepreneurship in the family business context. Using an inductive, qualitative approach based on multiple case study design of 12 farming business families, we discover that next generation family members engage in new business creation to build a positive work identity, that is to experience multiple identities as compatible with one another. We develop a process model that contribute towards our understanding of how next generation family members organize their multiple identities, which results in identity change over generations. A positive relationship between multiple identities leads moreover to beneficial outcomes such as positive emotions and finding meaningfulness in work. Our findings have implications for the literature on entrepreneurial identity, portfolio entrepreneurship and family business.

  • The quest for well-being : Understanding the role of entrepreneurial identity
  • 2019
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This study sets out to examine entrepreneurship and psychological well-being in the agricultural context. I take an identity perspective to answer the questions how and why entrepreneurship and well-being are related to one another by studying agricultural entrepreneurs. The paper explores thereby the nature of farmers’ entrepreneurial identities and also the role of farmers’ entrepreneurial endeavors for psychological wellbeing. I argue that identity is a profound driver in this context to engage in entrepreneurship because it allows farmers to defend who they are and to become who they want to be. In this regard, authenticity, being one true self, plays a fundamental factor in the enactment of their salient identities, their successful endeavors in entrepreneurship, and their well-being.

  • The Reciprocal Relationship of Innovation Capabilities and Socioemotional Wealth in a Family Firm
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Journal of Small Business Management. - : Informa UK Limited. - 0047-2778 .- 1540-627X. ; 55, s. 547-570
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper deals with entrepreneurship in family firms by researching how technology-based innovation capabilities influence the socioemotional dimensions of the owning family and vice versa. In combination with dynamic capabilities, the socioemotional wealth (SEW) perspective offers a framework that enables an investigation of the nature of innovation capabilities in family firms. Studying a single firm, we identify a positive reciprocal relationship between innovation capabilities and SEW. We find that this reciprocal relationship within the family business presents itself in a synergistic fashion, yielding synergies between financial wealth and SEW. The findings contribute to the literature on entrepreneurship and innovation in family businesses.
