  • Detecting Multiple Motif Co-occurrences in the Aarne-Thompson- Uther Tale Type Catalog : A Preliminary Survey
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Anales de Documentación. - : University of Murcia. - 1575-2437 .- 1697-7904. ; 15:1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • : Catalogs project subject field experience onto a multidimensional map which is then converted to a hierarchical list. In the case of the Aarne-Thompson-Uther Tale Type Catalog (ATU), this subject field is the global pattern of tale content defining tale types as canonical motif sequences. To extract and visualize such a map, we considered ATU as a corpus and analysed two segments of it, “Supernatural adversaries” (types 300-399) in particular and “Tales of magic” (types 300-749) in general. The two corpora were scrutinized for multiple motif cooccurrences and visualized by two-mode clustering of a bag-of-motif co-occurrences matrix. Findings indicate the presence of canonical content units above motif level as well. The organization scheme of folk narratives utilizing motif sequences is reminiscent of nucleotid sequences in the genetic code.

  • Toward Sequencing “Narrative DNA” : Tale Types, Motif Strings and Memetic Pathways
  • 2012
  • Konferensbidrag (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • The Aarne-Thompson-Uther Tale Type Catalog (ATU) is a bibliographic tool which uses metadata from tale content, called motifs, to define tale types as canonical motif sequences. The motifs themselves are listed in another bibliographic tool, the Aarne-Thompson Motif Index (AaTh). Tale types in ATU are defined in an abstracted fashion and can be processed like a corpus. We analyzed 219 types with 1202 motifs from the “Tales of magic” (types 300-749) segment to exemplify that motif sequences show signs of recombination in the storytelling process. Compared to chromosome mutations in genetics, we offer examples for insertion/deletion, duplication and, possibly, transposition, whereas the sample was not sufficient to find inverted motif strings as well. These initial findings encourage efforts to sequence motif strings like DNA in genetics, attempting to find for instance the longest common motif subsequences in tales. Expressing the network of motif connections by graphs suggests that tale plots as consolidated pathways of content help one memorize culturally engraved messages. We anticipate a connection between such networks and addington’s epigenetic landscape.

  • Fast Lead-Free Humidity Sensor Based on Hybrid Halide Perovskite
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Crystals. - : MDPI AG. - 2073-4352. ; 12:4
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • An environmentally friendly analog of the prominent methylammonium lead halide perovskite, methylammonium bismuth bromide (MA(3)Bi(2)Br(9)), was prepared and investigated in the form of powder, single crystals and nanowires. Complete characterization via synchrotron X-ray diffraction data showed that the bulk crystal does not incorporate water into the structure. At the same time, water is absorbed on the surface of the crystal, and this modification leads to the changes in the resistivity of the material, thus making MA(3)Bi(2)Br(9) an excellent candidate for use as a humidity sensor. The novel sensor was prepared from powder-pressed pellets with attached carbon electrodes and was characterized by being able to detect relative humidity over the full range (0.7-96% RH) at ambient temperature. Compared to commercial and literature values, the response and recovery times are very fast (down to 1.5 s/1.5 s).

  • Challenges and rewards of the electrosynthesis of macroscopic aligned carbon nanotube array/conducting polymer hybrid assemblies
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: Journal of Polymer Science Part B. - : Wiley. - 0887-6266 .- 1099-0488. ; 53, s. 1507-1518
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Hybrid assemblies based on conducting polymers and carbon nanomaterials with organized nanoscale structure are excellent candidates for various application schemes ranging from thermal management to electrochemical energy conversion and storage. In the case of macroscopic samples, however, precise control of the nanoscale structure has remained a major challenge to be solved for the scientific community. In this study we demonstrate possible routes to homogeneously infiltrate poly(3-hexylthiophene), poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene), and polyaniline into macroscopic arrays of vertically aligned multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTAs). Electron microscopic images and Raman spectroscopic analysis (performed along the longitudinal dimension of the hybrid samples) both confirmed that optimization of the electropolymerization circumstances allowed fine tuning of the hybrid structure towards the targeted application. In this vein, three different application avenues were tested. The remarkable anisotropy in both the electrical and thermal conductivity of the nanocomposites makes them eminently attractive candidates to be deployed in thermal management. Thermoelectric studies, aimed to understand the effect of organized nanoscale morphology on the important parameters (Seebeck coefficient, electrical-, and thermal conductivity) compared to their non-organized hybrid counterparts. Finally, extraordinary high charge storage capacity values were registered for the MWCNTA/PANI hybrids (500 F g−1 and 1–3 F cm−2).

  • Predictive Model for the Electrical Transport within Nanowire Networks
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: ACS Nano. - : AMER CHEMICAL SOC. - 1936-0851 .- 1936-086X. ; 12:11, s. 11080-11087
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Thin networks of high aspect ratio conductive nanowires can combine high electrical conductivity with excellent optical transparency, which has led to a widespread use of nanowires in transparent electrodes, transistors, sensors, and flexible and stretchable conductors. Although the material and application aspects of conductive nanowire films have been thoroughly explored, there is still no model which can relate fundamental physical quantities, like wire resistance, contact resistance, and nanowire density, to the sheet resistance of the film. Here, we derive an analytical model for the electrical conduction within nanowire networks based on an analysis of the parallel resistor network. The model captures the transport characteristics and fits a wide range of experimental data, allowing for the determination of physical parameters and performance-limiting factors, in sharp contrast to the commonly employed percolation theory. The model thus constitutes a useful tool with predictive power for the evaluation and optimization of nanowire networks in various applications.

  • Photocatalytic hydrogen generation from a visible-light responsive metal-organic framework system : the impact of nickel phosphide nanoparticles
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Journal of Materials Chemistry A. - : Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC). - 2050-7488 .- 2050-7496. ; 6:6, s. 2476-2481
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Herein, we report the performance of a photocatalytic system based on visible-light active MIL-125-NH2 mixed with nickel phosphide (Ni2P) nanoparticles. This combination boosts the H-2 evolution rate to an outstanding value of 894 mu mol h(-1) g(-1) under visible-light irradiation, which is among the highest H-2 evolution rates reported to date for metal-organic frameworks (MOFs). The H-2 generation rate exhibited by Ni2P/MIL-125-NH2 is almost 3 times higher than that of the Pt/MIL-125-NH2 system, highlighting the impact of the co-catalyst on photocatalytic water splitting. Additionally, our system outperforms the Ni2P/TiO2 system under UV-vis irradiation. The exceptional performance of Ni2P/MIL-125-NH2 is due to the efficient transfer of photogenerated electrons from MIL-125-NH2 to Ni2P, high intrinsic activity of Ni2P and exceptional synergy between them. This system exhibits the highest apparent quantum yields of 27.0 and 6.6% at 400 and 450 nm, respectively, ever reported for MOFs.

  • Acoustic-Pressure-Assisted Engineering of Aluminum Foams
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Advanced Engineering Materials. - : Wiley. - 1438-1656 .- 1527-2648. ; 23:7
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Shaping metals as a foam modulates their physical properties, enabling attractive applications where lightweight, low thermal conductivity, or acoustic isolation are desirable. Adjusting the size of the bubbles in the foams is particularly relevant for targeted applications. Herein, a method with a detailed theoretical understanding of how to tune the size of the bubbles in aluminum melts in situ via acoustic pressure is provided. The description is in full agreement with the high-rate 3D X-ray radioscopy of the bubble formation. The study with the intriguing results on the effect of foaming on electrical resistivity, Seebeck coefficient, and thermal conductivity from cryogenic to room temperature is complemented. Compared with bulk materials, the investigated foam shows an enhancement in the thermoelectric figure of merit. These results herald promising application of foaming in thermoelectric materials and devices for conversion of thermal energy.
