  • The (in)effectiveness of financial incentive on fertility behaviour : Childcare –a safety net for children?
  • 2017
  • Licentiatavhandling (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Is childcare a safety net for vulnerable children? This paper investigates the role of childcare for the health outcomes of children whose parents are unemployed. Exploiting time variation in childcare access resulting from a reform requiring Swedish municipalities to provide childcare also for children with unemployed parents, we estimate causal effects on health, as measured by register data on hospitalizations. We find that access to childcare reduced hospitalizations for infections among toddlers, especially among boys. Among children in preschool age access to childcare caused a temporary increase in hospitalization for infections the year they got access to childcare.

  • Efficacy and safety of anti-androgens in the management of polycystic ovary syndrome: a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomised controlled trials.
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: EClinicalMedicine. - 2589-5370. ; 63
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Anti-androgens and combined oral contraceptive pills (COCPs) may mitigate hyperandrogenism-related symptoms of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). However, their efficacy and safety in PCOS remain unclear as previous reviews have focused on non-PCOS populations. To inform the 2023 International Evidence-based Guideline in PCOS, we conducted the first systematic review and meta-analysis investigating the efficacy and safety of anti-androgens in the management of hormonal and clinical features of PCOS.We systematically searched MEDLINE, Embase, PsycInfo, All EBM reviews, and CINAHL up to 28th June 2023 for randomised controlled trials (RCTs) examining oral anti-androgen use, alone or in combination with metformin, COCPs, lifestyle, or other interventions, in women of any age, with PCOS diagnosed by Rotterdam, National Institutes of Health or Androgen Excess & PCOS Society criteria, and using a form of contraception. Non-English studies and studies of less than 6 months duration or which used the same anti-androgen regimen in both/all groups were excluded in order to establish efficacy for the clinical outcomes of interest. Three authors screened articles against selection criteria and assessed risk of bias and quality using the Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development and Evaluations (GRADE) framework. Critical outcomes (prioritised during guideline development for GRADE purposes) included weight, body mass index (BMI), irregular cycles, hirsutism, liver function, and quality of life. Random effects meta-analyses were conducted where appropriate. This study is registered with PROSPERO, CRD42022345640.From 1660 studies identified in the search, 27 articles comprising 20 unique studies were included. Of these, 13 studies (n=961) were pooled in meta-analysis. Seven studies had a high risk of bias, nine moderate and four low. Anti-androgens included finasteride, flutamide, spironolactone, or bicalutamide. In meta-analysis, anti-androgens+lifestyle were superior to metformin+lifestyle for hirsutism (weighted mean difference [WMD] [95% CI]:-1.59 [-3.06,-0.12], p=0.03; I2=74%), SHBG (7.70nmol/l [0.75, 14.66], p=0.03; I2=0%), fasting insulin and fasting insulin: glucose ratio (-2.11 μU/ml [-3.97,-0.26], p=0.03; I2=0% and-1.12 [-1.44,-0.79], p<0.0001, I2=0%, respectively), but were not superior to placebo+lifestyle for hirsutism (-0.93, [-3.37, 1.51], p=0.45; I2=76%) or SHBG (9.72nmol/l [-0.71, 20.14], p=0.07; I2=31%). Daily use was more effective for hirsutism than use every three days (-3.48 [-4.58,-2.39], p<0.0001, I2=1%), and resulted in lower androstenedione levels (-0.30ng/ml [-0.50,-0.10], p=0.004; I2=0%). Combination treatment with anti-androgens+metformin+lifestyle resulted in lower testosterone compared with metformin+lifestyle (-0.29nmol/l [-0.52,-0.06], p=0.01; I2=61%), but there were no differences in hirsutism when anti-androgens+metformin+lifestyle were compared with either anti-androgens+lifestyle or metformin+lifestyle. In limited meta-analyses (n=2 trials), combining anti-androgens with COCP resulted in poorer lipid profiles compared with COCP±placebo, with no differences in other outcomes.Current evidence does not support the use of anti-androgens preferentially to COCPs to treat hyperandrogenism in PCOS. Anti-androgens could be considered to treat hirsutism in PCOS, where COCPs are contraindicated, poorly tolerated, or present a sub-optimal response after a minimum 6-month period, with consideration of clinical context and individual risk factors and characteristics.National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) of Australia Monash University.

  • Developing an indicator framework for measuring sustainable logistics innovation in retail
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Measuring Business Excellence. - : Emerald Group Publishing Limited. - 1368-3047 .- 1758-8057. ; 22:1, s. 1-13
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to develop an indicator framework for measuring sustainable logistics innovation (SLI) in retail.Design/methodology/approachA literature review in different theory areas was conducted to generate a literature-based SLI indictor framework. The literature-based framework was then compared to five-year sustainability reports of three Swedish retailers to identify SLI indicators and how to measure them. This comparison led to a developed framework.FindingsThe developed framework combines sustainability dimensions with logistics activities. It identifies SLI indicators and how to measure them. Significant gaps between the framework and sustainability reports prompted the creation of an agenda for future research. Items that further research should consider include broadening or deepening the framework, developing specifically social SLI indicators for all logistics activities and developing measurement scales for the SLI indicators.Research limitations/implicationsThe study presents an SLI indicator framework as an initial contribution towards knowledge creation, and following the agenda for further research could generate even more implications for research.Practical implicationsManagers need inspiration concerning which indicators to use to measure SLI and how.Social implicationsThe study addresses both environmental and social sustainability, as well as suggests SLI indicators.Originality/valueNo identified study has merged sustainable logistics innovation and performance measurement in retail.

  • A framework for classifying sustainable logistics innovations
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Logistics Research. - Bremen : BVL. - 1865-035X .- 1865-0368. ; 11:1, s. 1-12
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Researchers and practitioners alike need support in the challenges to develop sustainable logistics, and one cannot afford to have a limited view of what constitutes sustainable logistics innovation (SLI). In order to inspire researchers and practitioners to expand their mindset when addressing sustainable logistics, the purpose of this paper is to develop a framework for classifying sustainable logistics innovations, and by classifying some SLIs evaluating the applicability of the framework. The study is based on a literature review within logistics innovation, sustainable innovation, and sustainable logistics innovation, resulting in a framework. It contains three areas: softness, extent of change and scope, which in turn contain nine dimensions. Interviews in three retailers acting in Sweden were conducted. SLIs were illustrated and classified in the framework. By moving outside how research so far has studied SLIs, examples of SLIs in logistics activities other than transport were identified, in forms aside from technological solutions, and in industries outside of logistics service providers. It was found that it was possible to classify SLIs in all dimensions, with some difficulties in extent of change in output, which also shows the applicability of the framework. Using the framework, SLIs can be understood in a more concrete and applicable way, which can inspire practitioners to develop and expand their efforts towards sustainable logistics. Therefore the study has implications for research, practice and society. Several suggestions for future research are presented.

  • Challenges Addressed by Swedish Third-Party Logistics Providers Conducting Sustainable Logistics Business Cases
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Sustainability. - : MDPI. - 2071-1050. ; 11:9, s. 1-15
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The sustainable logistics business case (SLBC) provides underlying argumentation to convince decision makers to approve initiatives within sustainablelogistics. Little knowledge exists on how companies conduct SLBCs or the challenges that need to be addressed. The purpose of this paper is to explore how companies conduct SLBCs, to increase the understanding of how perceived challenges can be addressed. Potential challenges were identified in literature on business cases models in general and sustainable logistics business cases. As third-party logistics providers (3PL) are big contributors to emissions and often are responsible for designing logistics setups, they were focused in the empirical study. How SLBC were conducted was investigated based on interviews with managers responsible for conducting SLBCs and the responses triangulated with information derived from actual business cases. Despite the careful selection of 3PLs well ahead within the area, few challenges were perceived by the studied companies. This does not imply that challenges do not exist but can rather be described as a consequence of their pragmatic and inward-looking perspective. Examples of how to address challenges are provided. The compiled list of SLBC challenges provides an overview that was missing in literature.

  • Environmental performance in transport contracts
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the EurOMA conference in Cambridge UK, 2011. - : International Annual EurOMA Conference.
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This study investigates the inclusion of environmental performance in transport contracts, and studies if differencesin inclusion can be explained by intra-organizational involvement. Findings from a survey study targeting logisticsservice providers and shippers suggest that those who include environmental performance in contracts, not necessarilyconsider how to measure the environmental performance and how to handle non-compliance. A higher degree ofintra-organizational involvement is related to larger inclusion of environmental performance in contracts. Findingsalso indicate that transportation managers play a more important role for inclusion of environmental performance incontracts, as compared to top management and environmental managers.
