  • Proton Dynamics in Hydrated BaZr0.9M0.1O2.95 (M = Y and Sc) Investigated with Neutron Spin-Echo
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Journal of Physical Chemistry C. - : American Chemical Society (ACS). - 1932-7447 .- 1932-7455. ; 120:26, s. 13963-13969
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Hydrated samples of the two proton conducting perovskites BaZr0.9M0.1O2.95 (M = Y and Sc) were investigated using neutron spin echo spectroscopy together with thermal gravimetric measurements, polarized neutron diffraction, and infrared spectroscopy, with the aim to determine how the atomic scale proton dynamics depend on temperature, and type of dopant atom, M. The results show the presence of pronounced localized proton motions for temperatures above ca. 300 K, characterized by relaxation times on the order of picoseconds to nanoseconds and governed by a wide distribution of activation energies due to a heterogeneous distribution of proton sites present, with no strong dependence on the type of dopant atom.

  • Liquid 1-propanol studied by neutron scattering, near-infrared, and dielectric spectroscopy
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: Journal of Chemical Physics. - : AIP Publishing. - 1089-7690 .- 0021-9606. ; 140:12
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Liquid monohydroxy alcohols exhibit unusual dynamics related to their hydrogen bonding induced structures. The connection between structure and dynamics is studied for liquid 1-propanol using quasi-elastic neutron scattering, combining time-of-flight and neutron spin-echo techniques, with a focus on the dynamics at length scales corresponding to the main peak and the pre-peak of the structure factor. At the main peak, the structural relaxation times are probed. These correspond well to mechanical relaxation times calculated from literature data. At the pre-peak, corresponding to length scales related to H-bonded structures, the relaxation times are almost an order of magnitude longer. According to previous work [C. Gainaru, R. Meier, S. Schildmann, C. Lederle, W. Hiller, E. Rössler, and R. Böhmer, Phys. Rev. Lett.105, 258303 (2010)] this time scale difference is connected to the average size of H-bonded clusters. The relation between the relaxation times from neutron scattering and those determined from dielectric spectroscopy is discussed on the basis of broad-band permittivity data of 1-propanol. Moreover, in 1-propanol the dielectric relaxation strength as well as the near-infrared absorbance reveal anomalous behavior below ambient temperature. A corresponding feature could not be found in the polyalcohols propylene glycol and glycerol.

  • Elastic Rerouting - models and resolution methods
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: [Host publication title missing]. - 9781479970391 ; , s. 47-53
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This study is concerned with an original traffic restoration strategy for wide-area communication networks called Elastic Rerouting (ER). ER aims at alleviating the tradeoff between the network cost and traffic restoration complexity observed in existing solutions. We present the strategy, provide a mathematical formulation for the ER related optimization problem, and discuss an approach to its resolution. We also report results of a numerical illustrating effectiveness of ER in terms of the link capacity cost

  • Flow adjustment methods for survivable networks
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: [Host publication title missing].
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The presented study deals with a specific rerouting strategy for protecting traffic flows in communication networks called Flow Adjustment Routing. The strategy is designed to handle partial link failures. We present two variants of the strategy and analyze their pros and cons. We show that the initial strategy is not directly implementable to cope with severe link failures such as total link failures. Therefore, we propose a restricted flow adjustment version as well as its distributed variant that can be used for the total link failures case. Numerical experiments for different settings and test networks illustrate the findings.

  • Energy Efficiency : What Has Research Delivered in the Last 40 Years?
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Annual Review of Environment and Resources. - : Annual Reviews. - 1543-5938 .- 1545-2050. ; 46, s. 135-165
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This article presents a critical assessment of 40 years of research that may be brought under the umbrella of energy efficiency, spanning different aggregations and domains-from individual producing and consuming agents to economy-wide effects to the role of innovation to the influence of policy. After 40 years of research, energy efficiency initiatives are generally perceived as highly effective. Innovation has contributed to lowering energy technology costs and increasing energy productivity. Energy efficiency programs in many cases have reduced energy use per unit of economic output and have been associated with net improvements in welfare, emission reductions, or both. Rebound effects at the macro level still warrant careful policy attention, as they may be nontrivial. Complexity of energy efficiency dynamics calls for further methodological and empirical advances, multidisciplinary approaches, and granular data at the service level for research in this field to be of greatest societal benefit.
