  • Learning factories for future oriented research and education in manufacturing
  • 2017
  • In: CIRP annals. - : ELSEVIER SCIENCE BV. - 0007-8506 .- 1726-0604. ; 66:2, s. 803-826
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • Learning factories present a promising environment for education, training and research, especially in manufacturing related areas which are a main driver for wealth creation in any nation. While numerous learning factories have been built in industry and academia in the last decades, a comprehensive scientific overview of the topic is still missing. This paper intends to close this gap by establishing the state of the art of learning factories. The motivations, historic background, and the didactic foundations of learning factories are outlined. Definitions of the term learning factory and the corresponding morphological model are provided. An overview of existing learning factory approaches in industry and academia is provided, showing the broad range of different applications and varying contents. The state of the art of learning factories curricula design and their use to enhance learning and research as well as potentials and limitations are presented. Conclusions and an outlook on further research priorities are offered. (C) 2017 Published by Elsevier Ltd on behalf of CIRP.

  • Implementering av 2:a generationens Eurokod inom bergbyggande
  • 2022
  • In: Bergdagarna 2022. - Stockholm.
  • Conference paper (pop. science, debate, etc.)abstract

  • National implementation commission for Eurocode 7 for joint development of geotechnical engineering practice
  • 2022
  • In: Proceedings of 20th International Conference on Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering. - St Ives. ; , s. 4759-4764
  • Conference paper (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • The objective of this paper is to describe how upcoming design code revisions can be used to facilitate a national joint development of geotechnical engineering practice. The paper describes the Swedish experience with establishing a national implementation commission for the second generation of Eurocode 7. The purpose is to inspire others to take similar initiatives when new design codes and standards are introduced. The paper covers how stakeholders from all parts of the Swedish geotechnical construction industry established the implementation commission IEG 2.0 as a non-profit organization and how obstacles were solved. This includes financing and establishing an efficient work process to analyze the many upcoming changes to the Eurocode clauses. This in fact being the second Swedish implementation commission for Eurocode 7, the paper concludes that this procedure of working together in the industry is a great success, facilitating an increased competence among Swedish geotechnical engineers and therefore also increased competitiveness of the Swedish geotechnical construction industry.

  • Soil Nailing. A Laboratory and Field Study of Pullout Capacity
  • 1998
  • Doctoral thesis (other academic/artistic)abstract
    • Soil Nailing is a technique for reinforcing soil in situ, increasingly utilised as an economical alternative to conventional earth reinforcing techniques. However, today the design is based on an assumed value of the pullout capacity of nails, which later is verified by pullout tests during the construction, which in turn limits the possibility of optimising the design. The objective of this study was therefore to get a better understanding of the pullout capacity and to suggest a method for more accurate prediction. The study comprised; laboratory tests (to study the influence of overburden pressure, relative density and method of installation) and full-scale field tests (to compare the pullout capacity among different soil nails and with results of site investigation methods). The results were then compared with design methods and results from FEM analysis. The results show that the pullout capacity in a cohesionless soil mainly depends on; the coefficient of roughness, surface area and normal stress. An increase in relative density, overburden pressure, and volume of displaced soil will result in an increase in pullout capacity. The coefficient of roughness and surface area could be estimated with quite good accuracy while the normal stress against the nail is more difficult to determine. The best prediction of the pullout capacity seems to be obtained from pullout tests on vertical nails. The greatest pullout capacity was, as expected obtained for grouted nails, but at the test carried out about 300 days after installation a driven expansion bolt and the angle bar gave an almost equals high capacity. A significantly lower pullout capacity was obtained for the ribbed bars, and for these nails no time dependency could be found. The analysis indicates that methods based on the theory of cavity expansion could be used to calculate the normal stress after local calibration.

  • Terrasstabilisering : kunskapsdokument
  • 2012
  • Reports (other academic/artistic)abstract

  • Cross-disciplinary Design Based on the Digital Factory as a Boundary Object
  • 2016
  • In: Procedia CIRP. - : Elsevier. - 2212-8271. ; , s. 565-570
  • Conference paper (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • In the domain of developing production systems, the design of a good factory is typically distributed over many disciplines and organizations to cover all involved technologies and levels of detail (process, logistics, machinery etc.). Modelling and simulation used to support the design process within each of the disciplines typically represent different contexts and perspectives. To cross the discipline borders and share experiences, to encourage innovation and make holistic decisions, one challenge is to interrelate various digital models and to reach a mutual system understanding between stakeholders. This paper presents a study based on principles from Social Science, Production Engineering, Computer Science and Information Design to address cross-disciplinary collaboration. Principles concerning visual communication and theories in regard to tangible boundary objects are used to clarify how to describe production system interdependencies in a digital factory context. Work in process of implementing a digital factory framework based on the principles is described, with a use case demonstrating the development of a digital factory for a new type of automotive vehicle.

  • Barn och etik : möten och möjlighetsvillkor i två förskoleklassers vardag
  • 2010
  • Doctoral thesis (other academic/artistic)abstract
    • The aim is to examine how children create and embody ethics by analyzing their encounters and how possibilities are conditioned by the framework surrounding them. The focus has been on the following problem areas: Conditions that enable children’s ethical encounters with regard to frameworks, rules and order Conditions that enable children’s ethical encounters related to the teachers’ approach Children’s encounters in play from an ethical perspective Children’s encounters with nature from an ethical perspective The theoretical standpoint is ”the ethics of an encounter” from Emmanuel Levinas’ idea of ethics of alterity. In ethics which precedes being itself, the ethical becoming and its relational aspects appear in the encounter with the Other. The tools of analysis are mainly drawn from previous pedagogical/didactical research in ethics which highlights the ethical conditions, such as listening, encounters with diversity and differences, and preschool/school as an ethical space. The study is based on one year of ethnographical field studies relying on participant observations, video observations, focus groups, stimulated recalls and guided tours. The empirical findings show that rules and frameworks which regulate the everyday life of the preschool classes are repeatedly negotiated. The negotiations about “what’s what?”, where both the children and the teachers are involved, take place on a verbal and a bodily level. In the pedagogues’ approach, the listening is a central and complex condition for the ethical space in the preschool classes. In the children’s encounters in play and in their encounters with nature the relational aspect becomes clear. The ethical boundaries and the fixing of those boundaries are discussed in connection with the idea of the ethics of an encounter and the vision of preschool/school as a potential ethical space.
