  • Impact of chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and endocrine therapy on sick leave in women with early-stage breast cancer during a 5-year period : a population-based cohort study
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Breast Cancer Research and Treatment. - : Springer. - 0167-6806 .- 1573-7217. ; 182:3, s. 699-707
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Purpose: To examine the influence of type of oncological treatment on sick leave in women of working age with early-stage breast cancer. Methods: We identified 8870 women aged 30-64 diagnosed with stage I-II breast cancer between 2005 and 2012 in the Breast Cancer Data Base Sweden. Associations between type of oncological treatment (radiotherapy, endocrine therapy, and chemotherapy) and sick leave were estimated by hazard ratios, probabilities, and length of sick leave using multi-state survival analysis. Results: During the first 5 years after diagnosis, women aged 50-54 years at diagnosis receiving chemotherapy spent on average 182 (95% CI 151-218) additional days on sick leave compared with women not receiving chemotherapy, but with otherwise similar characteristics. Correspondingly, women initiating endocrine therapy spent 30 (95% CI 18-44) additional days on sick leave and women receiving post-mastectomy radiotherapy 53 (95% CI 37-69) additional days. At year five, the rate of sick leave was increased in women who had received chemotherapy (HR 1.19, 95% CI 1.11-1.28) or endocrine therapy (HR 1.15, 95% CI 1.05-1.26). Chemotherapy and endocrine therapy were associated with increased rates of sick leave due to depression or anxiety. Conclusion: Our findings of increased long-term risks of sick leave after oncological treatment for breast cancer warrant attention from caregivers taking part in cancer rehabilitation. In light of the ongoing debate about overtreatment of early-stage breast cancer, our findings point to the importance of properly selecting patients for chemotherapy not only for the medical toxicity but also the possible impact on their livelihood.

  • Production start-up phase - A comparison between New Product Development and Production Relocation
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the 5th International Swedish Production Symposium. - 9789175197524 ; , s. 593-598
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • New product development in a globalized industrial environment with a constant increasing competition, challenges the ways to perform production start-up and production relocation. A product development process focuses in general on product function and to avoid product quality problems. A production relocation focus also on avoiding product quality problems, but relocation is mostly related to forgotten or misunderstood information. The challenging situation due to a more global market is the increasing need for production relocation. In this paper, a literature review is performed investigating these three areas and relate them with industrial experience from production relocations. To summaries, the existing processes in industry today seem to be based on processes for product development. The results view that effectiveness in production relocation are dependent on technology and knowledge transfer and the production start-up process.

  • Coordinating Digital Transformation in International Manufacturing Networks
  • 2023
  • Licentiatavhandling (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Manufacturing companies have adapted to globalisation and collected their globally dispersed factories into factory networks, known as international manufacturing networks (IMNs). This requires coordination to access the associated competitive advantages, synchronise the factories, and exploit the capabilities inherent in those individual factories. However, when IMNs introduce digital transformation into the factories, the coordination is often hindered by uncertainty and complexity, as digital transformation requires an extensive adjustment that affects everything from the organisational structure to ways of working. Different parts of the network that are dependent on one another, for example, may be difficult to track and foresee the consequences of digital transformation. Hence, due to the respective challenges, complexities, and uncertainties, the coordination of digital transformation in IMN is paramount to examine. This licentiate thesis begins with exploring coordination mechanisms to increase the understanding of existing research and shape it into a comprehensive overview. Moreover, through case studies, this thesis explores the challenges in and enablers for coordinating digital transformation in IMNs. Altogether, the challenges and enablers are analysed within the dimensions and categories of coordination mechanisms, i.e., they are collected into an overview and described within the case study context. The most significant findings of this thesis are related to the organisational structure, which enables the coordination of digital transformation. However, plenty of challenges remain, foremost connected to the formalisation of the organisational structure, e.g., balancing the rules and guidelines for digital transformation but providing space for people performing the activities to explore and investigate digital technologies. This thesis further contributes to the existing body of research by untangling the complexity of coordination itself and, specifically, the coordination of digital transformation in IMNs, explicitly adding to the operations management field and the management of global operations. Practical contributions are also made, i.e., this thesis promotes practitioners’ increased understanding by providing specific examples and descriptions of the findings within their context. Based on the findings, this thesis offers multiple paths for future research, keeping in mind that coordination is not static but evolving, depending on the context in which it is performed.

  • Identifying targets for increased biogasproduction through chemical and organicmatter characterization of digestate from full‑scale biogas plants : what remains and why?
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Biotechnology for Biofuels and Bioproducts. - London, United Kingdom : BioMed Central. - 2731-3654. ; 15:1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background: This study examines the destiny of macromolecules in different full-scale biogas processes. From previousstudies it is clear that the residual organic matter in outgoing digestates can have significant biogas potential, but the factors dictating the size and composition of this residual fraction and how they correlate with the residualmethane potential (RMP) are not fully understood. The aim of this study was to generate additional knowledge of thecomposition of residual digestate fractions and to understand how they correlate with various operational and chemicalparameters. The organic composition of both the substrates and digestates from nine biogas plants operating onfood waste, sewage sludge, or agricultural waste was characterized and the residual organic fractions were linked tosubstrate type, trace metal content, ammonia concentration, operational parameters, RMP, and enzyme activity. Results: Carbohydrates represented the largest fraction of the total VS (32–68%) in most substrates. However, inthe digestates protein was instead the most abundant residual macromolecule in almost all plants (3–21 g/kg). Thedegradation efficiency of proteins generally lower (28–79%) compared to carbohydrates (67–94%) and fats (86–91%).High residual protein content was coupled to recalcitrant protein fractions and microbial biomass, either from thesubstrate or formed in the degradation process. Co-digesting sewage sludge with fat increased the protein degradationefficiency with 18%, possibly through a priming mechanism where addition of easily degradable substrates alsotriggers the degradation of more complex fractions. In this study, high residual methane production (> 140 L CH4/kgVS) was firstly coupled to operation at unstable process conditions caused mainly by ammonia inhibition (0.74 mgNH3-N/kg) and/or trace element deficiency and, secondly, to short hydraulic retention time (HRT) (55 days) relative tothe slow digestion of agricultural waste and manure. Conclusions: Operation at unstable conditions was one reason for the high residual macromolecule content andhigh RMP. The outgoing protein content was relatively high in all digesters and improving the degradation of proteinsrepresents one important way to increase the VS reduction and methane production in biogas plants. • Technology transfer as apart of the business : Inter-organizational transfer strategies based on experiences of aircraft production
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Journal of Global Operations and Strategic Sourcing. - : Emerald Group Publishing Limited. - 2398-5364 .- 2398-5372. ; 12:1, s. 151-171
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • PurposeThe purpose of this paper is through a literature study and a study of the Saab offset cases to identify strategies to increase inter-organizational transfer capability.Design/Methodology/ApproachBased on a literature study and a study of three of Saab’s offset cases and Saab’s process for technology transfer.FindingsThis study has identified inter-organisational transfer strategies based on the importance of the hierarchy of decision-making and the change from capacity transfers to capability transfers in offset business. 1) The type of performance goals set in the business agreement decides how to realise the transfer. 2) The hierarchy of decision-making create a need to align the understanding of the performance goals between the different parts of the organisation, which affect the plans for how to transfer knowledge between the organizational as well as the individual levels. 3) To reach the performance goals of the technology transfer there need to be a balance between the disseminative capability of the sender and the absorptive capability of the receiver. LimitationsThis study is based on a single case within a relatively unique industry with an offset perspective and production transfers. Therefore, there is also a need for future studies to confirm the identified relationships within outsourcing/offset within other industries and other types of transfers.Originality/value: A change from capacity transfers to capability transfers in both outsourcing/offshoring and offset business indicates that more research should be placed on the disseminative capacity of the sender. The literature review revealed that the disseminative capacity of the sender has been the subject of less research than the absorptive capacity of the receiver.

  • What are the differences between related offset and outsourcing? : A case study of a related offset business at Saab
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Technology Transfer and Commercialisation. - : InderScience Publishers. - 1470-6075 .- 1741-5284. ; 14:2, s. 132-149
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Recently, offset contracts have become more complex. For the seller to carry through and review the effects and the demands of an offset contract, they need a framework. The paper identifies five main differences between outsourcing and related offset, which are translated into activities to be included in a suggested related offset framework. The paper is based on an in-depth case study of a related offset business at Saab, a Swedish military aircraft producer. The analysis compared the studied case with an existing outsourcing process identified in literature. The paper contributes by providing an overview of the activities taking place during a related offset process and showing the effect of the different hierarchical levels involved in the process on the efficiency of the fulfilment of the offset business. This paper is based on a single case study, and the suggested differences should be verified through further case studies.

  • Analysis of road safety trends 2022 : Management by objectives for road safety work towards the 2030 interim targets
  • 2023
  • Rapport (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Swedish road safety work is based on Vision Zero and designated interim targets to track progress towards its achievement. The current interim target for road safety is to halve the number of fatalities from 266 (the average annual number 20172019) to a maximum of 133 fatalities in 2030. The interim target also specifies that the number of seriously injured on the roads is to be reduced by 25 per cent from a corresponding number. This report describes and analyses current road safety trends in terms of road safety performance indicators and the numbers of fatalities. The number of seriously injured is not reported, as a new method for non-response compensation of the number of seriously injured is being developed in 2023. In addition to the adopted national interim targets there is also an interim target at the EU level that specifies a halving, by 2030, of the number of fatalities recorded in 2019.
