  • Study of the kinteics of flotation in a bulk flotation circuit for galena and sphalerite
  • 1983
  • Ingår i: International Mineral Processing Congress. - Montreal.
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This project involved detailed sampling from an individual flotation cell as well as sampling of concentrates and middlings from cells in the rougher and scavenger flotation stages. The study shows how the total mass distribution and the distribution of galena and sphalerite change in the course of rougher and scavenger flotation. These changes have been evaluated in terms of flotation kinetics, and the residual quantity functions for galena and sphalerite in rougher and scavenger flotation are given. The frequency distribution of flotation activity has also been obtained for galena and sphalerite in rougher and scavenger flotation.

  • Emergence of the Swedish Innovation Systemand the Support for Regional Entrepreneurship : A Socio-Economic Perspective
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: Science and Technology Based Regional Entrepreneurship. - : Edward Elgar Publishing. - 9781847203908
  • Bokkapitel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Globalization and the shift towards knowledge a major source of competitiveness have rendered traditional policy instruments less effective. Traditional economic/industrial policies can no longer guarantee high growth and employment, certainly not for all countries and regions. System failure and a more systemic view on innovation and science and technology development as an integral system is often seen as a more appropriated way. This chapter gives a broad overview of the development of the Swedish innovation system that served Sweden as an industrial advanced country well for more than 100 years and current policy shift in search for a new R&D and innovation model towards a knowledge driven entrepreneurial economy. The thesis brought forward is that a basic understanding of the structure and the development of the Swedish innovation system and the shift require an understanding of the importance of ”la longue durée” and of innovative technology procurement by “development pairs” as a regime for innovation policy and entrepreneurial growth. An interplay between economic, technological and governance drivers has led to radical change of the prevalent model during the last decades. To some extent the established model became a victim of a tandem effect from globalisation and deregulation. The most important consequence was that a new order that is transactional in character replaced the old model that was basically relational.

  • From Firm Network to a Sector-System of Production and Innovation : A Case Study of Innovation Policy Initiative
  • 2010
  • Konferensbidrag (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • This paper examines innovation policy making during the transition of innovative ideas into mature industries within building/construction and mineral extraction/mining industries. The main focus is how interaction occurs between major stakeholders and intermediating actors and how industrial change processes are orchestrated. A case study approach examines the rather complex processes occurring within industrial sector development. Two main success criteria were observed: (1) continuity in initial vision and leadership and (2) a clear intention to achieve strategic interplay and knowledge fusion between heterogonous industrial sectors. Currently, this has been achieved in a classic way using R&D and technology development approaches combined with explorative market development to co-ordinate and allow knowledge fusion between the sectors. The transition process is illustrated in four phases: (1) idea and start-up, (2) formation of a technical R&D programme and networking, (3) consolidation of actor networks and formation of an embryological innovation system, and (4) development of a more sector-based production and innovation system.

  • Policy and transitions processes in sector systems of innovation and production
  • 2010
  • Licentiatavhandling (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • In the last decades, innovation and innovation processes in industry have been regarded as critical to establishing sustainable economic competitiveness and development-both crucial for societal goals and visions. In the aftermath of the tirst oil crisis in the late 1970s and early 1980s, the influential work by research schalars' has inspired a comprehensive new order in economic research internationally which will be discussed in this thesis. In the frame of that a main interest has been devoted to look upan what characterizes the emergence and  development of an innovation system and the factors that contribute to, but perhaps also limit, the development? As a faundatian for the thesis, three different papers have been written. The tirst paper is a literature review with empirical examples and deals with the roats and long tails of the Swedish model - development of institutionai structures on an aggregated level through seetorai systems of innovation and productian. This paper also describes attempts to trans form and adapt the model to new circumstances at the end of the 1990s and the tirst years of the 21 st century. The second paper describe a foresight model and shows how such a model can be a valuable strategic management tool for renewing goals and cognitive awareness in a local cluster group in a traditional industry. This papet also views the consumer secter from miera and actot perspectives on the programme leve!. In the third paper three an ongoing transition processes and mutual development in three mature branches is studied. The paper presents a system perspective on organisations- and mezzoIevel. The thesis generates tive main conelusions: I) Long-tenn thinking and a nation of "la longue duree" are prerequisites for development of innovation systems. 2) The existence of a reference base and a prehistory constitutes an important platfonn for the emergence of innovation systems. 3) Strong driving forces and intentionalily are fundamental to emerging innovation systems. 4) Institutions and organisations are important instruments of change in the emergence of innovation systems; and 5) Entrepreneurship and management at s!!Uctural and micro levels are important ingredients in an innovation system's development processes. Possible implications ofsome aspects of the conclusions for the Swedish policy landscape are many. One example is the matter of longterm thinking and "la longue duree", which this thesis hopefully has made elear are not synonyms. Long-tenn thinking and temporalily within "la longue duree" are important issues behind successful innovations, change processes, and development processes. Of this. there is an impressive quantity offacts and arguments.

  • Reframing the multilevel triple helix in a regional innovation system: a case of systemic foresight and regimes in renewal of Skåne's food industry
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: Technology Analysis & Strategic Management. - : Taylor & Francis. - 0953-7325 .- 1465-3990. ; 22:7, s. 819-829
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Most findings on the triple helix system derive from studies based on high-tech sectors, and seldom so on traditional industries. A foresight exercise aimed at renewal of the mature food industry in the Skane region in southern Sweden was conducted in 2006-2007. The findings suggest that a multilevel triple helix policy ought to be used in a systemic way from a bottom up perspective, including companies as well as other triple helix actors throughout the value chain. Further, the findings underscore the importance of the role intermediaries play enhancing the integrative abilities of actors in the regional food system. Cultural analysis is used to elicit a deeper understanding of the different regimes that influence the actors. This is consistent with the observation highlighted in this article that the actors in the food system bear values arising from a time when the Swedish food system catered for national self-sufficiency under a regime of limited market competition.

  • Reframing the Multilevel Triple Helix in a Regional Innovation System: A case of systemic foresight and regimes in renewal of Skane’s food industry
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: Triple Helix VII 7th biennial international conference of university, industry & government linkages.
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Most organizational findings on Triple Helix modes of interaction have originated in studies of high-tech sectors and emergent industries, whereas low-tech sectors and mature industries to a less extent have been explored in the Triple Helix literature. A foresight initiative aiming at an enhanced renewal of the mature food industry in the region of Skane, was conducted 2006-2007. Findings from the study suggest that a multilevel triple helix policy approach ought to be used in a more systemic way in mature industry branches. Since innovations rely on successful transitions through the long value chain in the heterogeneous food system, a mutual understanding and interaction between the actors is of vital importance. To promote such understanding, a systemic “bottom up approach” was taken in the foresight. The authors stress the importance of intermediating and intermediators in order to enhance the responsive abilities in the food innovation system. The use of cultural analysis to develop a deeper understanding of the different regimes that influence the actors is further suggested, since the actors are imprinted with values emergent from a time when the Swedish food system was based on national self-subsistence, with limited market competition.
