  • The Fifteenth Data Release of the Sloan Digital Sky Surveys : First Release of MaNGA-derived Quantities, Data Visualization Tools, and Stellar Library
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Astrophysical Journal Supplement Series. - : Institute of Physics Publishing (IOPP). - 0067-0049 .- 1538-4365. ; 240:2
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Twenty years have passed since first light for the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS). Here, we release data taken by the fourth phase of SDSS (SDSS-IV) across its first three years of operation (2014 July-2017 July). This is the third data release for SDSS-IV, and the 15th from SDSS (Data Release Fifteen; DR15). New data come from MaNGA-we release 4824 data cubes, as well as the first stellar spectra in the MaNGA Stellar Library (MaStar), the first set of survey-supported analysis products (e.g., stellar and gas kinematics, emission-line and other maps) from the MaNGA Data Analysis Pipeline, and a new data visualization and access tool we call "Marvin." The next data release, DR16, will include new data from both APOGEE-2 and eBOSS; those surveys release no new data here, but we document updates and corrections to their data processing pipelines. The release is cumulative; it also includes the most recent reductions and calibrations of all data taken by SDSS since first light. In this paper, we describe the location and format of the data and tools and cite technical references describing how it was obtained and processed. The SDSS website (www.sdss.org) has also been updated, providing links to data downloads, tutorials, and examples of data use. Although SDSS-IV will continue to collect astronomical data until 2020, and will be followed by SDSS-V (2020-2025), we end this paper by describing plans to ensure the sustainability of the SDSS data archive for many years beyond the collection of data.

  • Sloan Digital Sky Survey IV : Mapping the Milky Way, Nearby Galaxies, and the Distant Universe
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Astronomical Journal. - : IOP Publishing Ltd. - 0004-6256 .- 1538-3881. ; 154:1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We describe the Sloan Digital Sky Survey IV (SDSS-IV), a project encompassing three major spectroscopic programs. The Apache Point Observatory Galactic Evolution Experiment 2 (APOGEE-2) is observing hundreds of thousands of Milky Way stars at high resolution and. high signal-to-noise ratios in the near-infrared. The Mapping Nearby Galaxies at Apache Point Observatory (MaNGA) survey is obtaining spatially resolved spectroscopy for thousands of nearby galaxies (median z similar to 0.03). The extended Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey (eBOSS) is mapping the galaxy, quasar, and neutral gas distributions between z similar to 0.6 and 3.5 to constrain cosmology using baryon acoustic oscillations, redshift space distortions, and the shape of the power spectrum. Within eBOSS, we are conducting two major subprograms: the SPectroscopic IDentification of eROSITA Sources (SPIDERS), investigating X-ray AGNs. and galaxies in X-ray clusters, and the Time Domain Spectroscopic Survey (TDSS), obtaining spectra of variable sources. All programs use the 2.5 m Sloan Foundation Telescope at the. Apache Point Observatory; observations there began in Summer 2014. APOGEE-2 also operates a second near-infrared spectrograph at the 2.5 m du Pont Telescope at Las Campanas Observatory, with observations beginning in early 2017. Observations at both facilities are scheduled to continue through 2020. In keeping with previous SDSS policy, SDSS-IV provides regularly scheduled public data releases; the first one, Data Release 13, was made available in 2016 July.

  • Microstructural refinement in spark plasma sintering 3Y-TZP nanoceramics
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Journal of the European Ceramic Society. - : Elsevier BV. - 0955-2219 .- 1873-619X. ; 36:10, s. 2565-2571
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A commercial 3Y-TZP nanopowder was consolidated by spark plasma sintering (SPS) techniques. By special die-upset designs, each possible influence from the electric field, uniaxial pressure and heating rate was peeled to identify its contribution. Besides density and grain growth, the evolution of pore structure was consulted to clarify the relationships between microstructural development and densification kinetics. The results showed that neither electric current nor fast heating had no decisive contributions while external force was a necessity for the microstructural refinement. The authors proposed that the essentially underlying mechanism was the intensive particle rearrangement, which involves no grain growth but particle close-packing through grain rotation and sliding. The full advantages of this mechanism can be taken in rapid heating conditions, which combined with the application of higher pressures, make the SPS family of techniques to have advancement in the preparations of nanoceramics over their conventional counterparts characterized by slow heating features.

  • The Seventeenth Data Release of the Sloan Digital Sky Surveys : Complete Release of MaNGA, MaStar, and APOGEE-2 Data
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Astrophysical Journal Supplement Series. - : Institute of Physics (IOP). - 0067-0049 .- 1538-4365. ; 259:2
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper documents the seventeenth data release (DR17) from the Sloan Digital Sky Surveys; the fifth and final release from the fourth phase (SDSS-IV). DR17 contains the complete release of the Mapping Nearby Galaxies at Apache Point Observatory (MaNGA) survey, which reached its goal of surveying over 10,000 nearby galaxies. The complete release of the MaNGA Stellar Library accompanies this data, providing observations of almost 30,000 stars through the MaNGA instrument during bright time. DR17 also contains the complete release of the Apache Point Observatory Galactic Evolution Experiment 2 survey that publicly releases infrared spectra of over 650,000 stars. The main sample from the Extended Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey (eBOSS), as well as the subsurvey Time Domain Spectroscopic Survey data were fully released in DR16. New single-fiber optical spectroscopy released in DR17 is from the SPectroscipic IDentification of ERosita Survey subsurvey and the eBOSS-RM program. Along with the primary data sets, DR17 includes 25 new or updated value-added catalogs. This paper concludes the release of SDSS-IV survey data. SDSS continues into its fifth phase with observations already underway for the Milky Way Mapper, Local Volume Mapper, and Black Hole Mapper surveys.

  • Defect formation by order coalescence in vermicular grains during alumina phase transformation
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: Scripta Materialia. - : Elsevier BV. - 1359-6462 .- 1872-8456. ; 107, s. 59-62
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Vermicular alpha-Al2O3 grains obtained from gamma- to alpha-phase transformation were investigated. X-ray diffraction patterns showed a left-shifting shoulder in all diffraction peaks of transformed alpha-Al2O3. High-resolution transmission electron microscopy results confirmed large amounts of defects inside the vermicular alpha-Al2O3 single-crystal. Combined with grain-growth discontinuity, the authors proposed that the defects inside vermicular grains resulted from assembly of nanosized alpha-crystallites by an ordered coalescence mechanism directly after phase transformation, by which the orientation alignment was thermodynamically favored in the solid-state sintering.

  • Bioinspired 3D Printable, Self-Healable, and Stretchable Hydrogels with Multiple Conductivities for Skin-like Wearable Strain Sensors
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: ACS Applied Materials and Interfaces. - : American Chemical Society (ACS). - 1944-8244 .- 1944-8252. ; 13:2, s. 2952-2960
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Bioinspired hydrogels have promising prospects in applications such as wearable devices, human health monitoring equipment, and soft robots due to their multifunctional sensing properties resembling natural skin. However, the preparation of intelligent hydrogels that provide feedback on multiple electronic signals simultaneously, such as human skin receptors, when stimulated by external contact pressure remains a substantial challenge. In this study, we designed a bioinspired hydrogel with multiple conductive capabilities by incorporating carbon nanotubes into a chelate of calcium ions with polyacrylic acid and sodium alginate. The bioinspired hydrogel consolidates self-healing ability, stretchability, 3D printability, and multiple conductivities. It can be fabricated as an integrated strain sensor with simultaneous piezoresistive and piezocapacitive performances, exhibiting sensitive (gauge factor of 6.29 in resistance mode and 1.25 kPa(-1) in capacitance mode) responses to subtle pressure changes in the human body, such as finger flexion, knee flexion, and respiration. Furthermore, the bioinspired strain sensor sensitively and discriminatively recognizes the signatures written on it. Hence, we expect our ideas to provide inspiration for studies exploring the use of advanced hydrogels in multifunctional skin-like smart wearable devices.

  • Bioprocess-inspired synthesis of printable, self-healing mineral hydrogels for rapidly responsive, wearable ionic skin
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Chemical Engineering Journal. - : Elsevier BV. - 1385-8947 .- 1873-3212. ; 424
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Oyster reefs, which can maintain coastal ecosystems by absorbing storm surge energy, are composed of aggregated oyster shells bonded by bioadhesive secretions containing inorganic minerals. Bioadhesive secretions are formed by cross-linking extracellular liquid, which is rich in organic and inorganic ions, with sand, bacteria, or diatoms. Inspired by such bioprocesses, a mineral hydrogel with excellent 3D printability, rapid self-healing ability (85% recovery within 1 min), high stretchability (>1500% tensile elongation) and ionic conductivity was synthesized by the chelation of polyacrylic acid (PAA) with calcium ions (Ca2+) and subsequent physical cross-linking of PAA with modified amorphous calcium phosphate (ACP) nanoparticles. With such mineral hydrogels, ionic skin was successfully prepared, which could recognize the bending degrees of the index finger and sensitively sense the tensile strain (approximately 33 ms). Moreover, the ionic skin can distinguish external temperature stimuli and work stably at a temperature of 75 degrees C. These performances exhibit the great mechanosensing and thermosensing abilities of ionic skin, showing promising applications in various fields, such as wearable sensors, for withstanding high ambient temperatures and the next generation of soft intelligent robots.

  • Preparation of Transparent 3Y-TZP Nanoceramics with No Low-Temperature Degradation
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: Journal of The American Ceramic Society. - : Wiley. - 0002-7820 .- 1551-2916. ; 97:5, s. 1402-1406
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The progresses of the relative density, average grain size (GS), and maximum pore size entering into the final sintering stage are investigated in 3mol% yttria-stabilized tetragonal zirconia polycrystals (3Y-TZP) compacts in the range of 87%similar to 99% theoretical density. It is found that during conventional pressureless sintering, the pores in the compact enlarged dramatically, which appears to be the major obstacle for preparing fully dense nanoceramics. Transparent 3Y-TZP nanoceramics with an average GS of 87nm were prepared by exploiting microstructural refinement on nanoscale. The yields a maximal optical transmittance of 67% and shows no noticeable low-temperature degradation after 100h aging at 134 degrees C under a hydrothermal pressure of two bars.
