  • Method for selecting optimal operation frequencies in bulk acoustophoretic devices
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: 22nd International Conference on Miniaturized Systems for Chemistry and Life Sciences, MicroTAS 2018. - 9781510897571 ; 1, s. 282-284
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We report a new method to select the optimal actuation frequencies in bulk acoustophoresis devices, by means of differential impedance spectrum analysis measured via the actuating piezoelectric transducer (piezo). The impedance spectra is rich of large spurious resonance peaks originating from bulk resonances not related to the channel resonance, Fig. 1a, why direct measurement of the piezo impedance spectra is not a viable strategy. We present here for the first time that the resonance modes of the acoustophoresis channel can be clearly identified by sequentially measuring the impedance spectra of the acoustophoresis manifold when the channel is filled with two different fluids and calculate the normalised differential impedance spectra.

    • The governance of prostitution in Italy's modern history and present times has seen the institution of two prostitution policy regimes. The first was introduced in 1860, with the implementation of a system of regulated prostitution. In Italy, most of the estimated data on outdoor and indoor prostitution are produced by NGOs and institutions operating in harm reduction and antitrafficking projects. Italy has one of the oldest sex workers' organizations in Europe: the Committee for Civil Rights of Prostitutes. The Committee was created in 1982 in a northern Italian city by two Italian street workers, Carla Corso and Pia Covre, who were to become crucial actors in the Italian debate on prostitution. As Danna wrote over ten years ago, in Italy the regulation of prostitution at the national level appears to be stuck in "never ending debates" which bring no resolution and are mostly informed by simplistic and fallacious understandings of this complex phenomenon.

  • Vendere e comprare sesso. Tra piacere, lavoro, prevaricazione
  • 2014
  • Bok (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • "What lies hidden behind online ads for erotic services, or on streets on the outskirts of cities, or in the downtown apartments used by escorts? What is someone who buys sex risking? What can be done to prevent human trafficking? What rights to sex workers have? Why is it that Germany considers prostitution to be a service, while Sweden punishes it as one of the most shameful forms of violence against women? Controversial questions of social policy as well as still-taboo issues around intimacy, against the backdrop of broader problems of labour, freedom of choice, sexuality and power." The book addresses the main issues raised by the sex industry in contemporary Europe. It includes a short chapter on the history of regulations and debates on prostitution in Europe since the Middle-Ages, a chapter on the experiences and motives of the subjects - those who sell and those who buy, a chapter on the existing policies on prostitution - classified according to 6 types -, and a chapter on the issue of trafficking.

  • Ambivalent Professionalisation and Autonomy in Workers’ Collective Projects: The Cases of Sex Worker Peer Educators in Germany and Sexual Assistants in Switzerland
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Sociological Research Online. - : SAGE Publications. - 1360-7804. ; 21:4
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Drawing on participant methodologies this article examines two cases of workers’ self-organised projects oriented to improving the quality of sex work and to ‘professionalisation’. The first case is a group of sexual assistants for people with disabilities, who have organised meetings and training for sexual assistants in a medium-sized city in Switzerland. The second is a group of peer sex worker educators offering workshops to people who sell sex in various industry sectors in a large German city. We argue that these activist interventions may represent a resource for identifying crucial aspects of work-quality and professionalisation in sex work and for making sense of some apparent contradictions of sex workers’ organising. Indeed, through ongoing conversations and recommendations about working practices and ethics, our participants develop situated views of what is better sex work and they originally engage with key conceptual areas, such as consent, autonomy, standardisation, income and professional identity. They do so by comparing a variety of experiences in sex industries, as well as discussing similarities with other jobs such as body work, care work, and psychotherapy.

  • Differential impedance spectra analysis reveals optimal actuation frequency in bulk mode acoustophoresis
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Scientific Reports. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 2045-2322. ; 9:1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This work reports a method to select the optimal working frequency in transversal bulk resonator acoustophoretic devices by electrical impedance measurements. The impedance spectra of acoustophoretic devices are rich in spurious resonance peaks originating from different resonance modes in the system not directly related to the channel resonance, why direct measurement of the piezoelectric transducer impedance spectra is not a viable strategy. This work presents, for the first time, that the resonance modes of microchip integrated acoustophoresis channels can be identified by sequentially measuring the impedance spectra of the acoustophoretic device when the channel is filled with two different fluids and subsequently calculate the Normalized Differential Spectrum (NDS). Seven transversal bulk resonator acoustophoretic devices of different materials and designs were tested with successful results. The developed method enables a rapid, reproducible and precise determination of the optimal working frequency.
