  • Impact of nitrogen seeding on confinement and power load control of a high-triangularity JET ELMy H-mode plasma with a metal wall
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: Nuclear Fusion. - : IOP Publishing. - 0029-5515 .- 1741-4326. ; 53:11, s. 113025-
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper reports the impact on confinement and power load of the high-shape 2.5MA ELMy H-mode scenario at JET of a change from all carbon plasma-facing components to an all metal wall. In preparation to this change, systematic studies of power load reduction and impact on confinement as a result of fuelling in combination with nitrogen seeding were carried out in JET-C and are compared with their counterpart in JET with a metallic wall. An unexpected and significant change is reported on the decrease in the pedestal confinement but is partially recovered with the injection of nitrogen.

  • Deposition of (13)C tracer in the JET MkII-HD divertor
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: Physica Scripta. - : Institute of Physics Publishing (IOPP). - 0031-8949 .- 1402-4896. ; T145, s. 014004-
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Migration of (13)C has been investigated at JET by injecting (13)C-labelled methane at the outer divertor base at the end of the 2009 campaign. The (13)C deposition profiles on carbon fibre composite divertor tiles were measured by secondary ion mass spectrometry and Rutherford backscattering techniques. (13)C was mainly deposited near the puffing location on the outer divertor base tiles. High amounts of (13)C were also found at the outer vertical target: at the bottom of the lower and at the top of the upper plates. Thirty-three percent of puffed (13)CH(4) was instantly pumped out by the divertor cryopump, which is close to the pump duct entrance. Global (13)C transport in the torus was modelled by the EDGE2D/EIRENE and DIVIMP codes, and local (13)C migration in the vicinity of the injection location by the ERO code. The DIVIMP and EDGE2D simulations show strong prompt deposition of (13)C directly adjacent to the injection point as well as in the far scrape-off layer (SOL) along both the inner and outer divertor targets. In addition, the measured (13)C deposition along the outer divertor wall tiles is qualitatively reproduced. However, EDGE2D and DIVIMP do not predict any deposition along the divertor surfaces facing the private plasma on the inner floor tile and inboard of the outer strike point on tile 5. The ERO calculations also indicate that most of the deposition occurs close to the injection location on the vertical face of the LBSRP tile and the horizontal part of tile 6.

  • Overview of JET post-mortem results following the 2007-9 operational period, and comparisons with previous campaigns
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: Physica Scripta. - : Institute of Physics Publishing (IOPP). - 0031-8949 .- 1402-4896. ; T145, s. 014003-
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In 2010, all the plasma-facing components were removed from JET so that the carbon-based surfaces could be replaced with beryllium (Be) or tungsten as part of the ITER-like wall (ILW) project. This gives unprecedented opportunities for post-mortem analyses of these plasma-facing surfaces; this paper reviews the data obtained so far and relates the information to studies of tiles removed during previous JET shutdowns. The general pattern of erosion/deposition at the JET divertor has been maintained, with deposition of impurities in the scrape-off layer (SOL) at the inner divertor and preferential removal of carbon and transport into the corner. However, the remaining films in the SOL contain very high Be/C ratios at the surface. The first measurements of erosion using a tile profiler have been completed, with up to 200 microns erosion being recorded at points on the inner wall guard limiters.

  • Variation in response rates to isolated limb perfusion in different soft-tissue tumour subtypes: an international multi-centre study
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: European Journal of Cancer. - 0959-8049. ; 190
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the response rates of different extremity soft-tissue sarcoma subtypes (eSTS) after isolated limb perfusion (ILP), based on an international multi-centre study. Materials and methods: The retrospective cohort comprised eSTS patients from 17 specialised ILP centres that underwent melphalan-based ILP, with or without recombinant human tumour necrosis factor (rhTNF & alpha;) (TM-ILP and M-ILP, respectively). Response was measured on imaging (magnetic resonance imaging) and/or clinical response, for which M-ILPs were excluded. Results: A total of 1109 eSTS patients were included. The three most common histological subtypes were undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcoma (17%, n = 184), synovial sarcoma (16%, n = 175) and myxofibrosarcoma (8%, n = 87). rhTNF & alpha; was used in 93% (TM-ILP) and resulted in a significantly better overall response rate (ORR, p = 0.031) and complete responses (CR, p < 0.001) in comparison to M-ILP, without significant differences among histological subgroups. The ORR of TM-ILP was 68%, including 17% CR. Also, 80% showed progressive disease. Significantly higher response rates were shown for Kaposi sarcoma (KS) with 42% CR and 96% ORR (both p < 0.001), and significantly higher CR rates for angiosarcoma (AS, 45%, p < 0.001) and clear cell sarcoma (CCS, 31%, p = 0.049). ILP was followed by resection & LE; 6 months in 80% of the patients. The overall limb salvage rate was 88%, without significant differences among histological subgroups, but was significantly higher for ILP responders compared to non-responders (93% versus 76%, p < 0.001). Conclusion: ILP resulted in high response and LRS among all eSTS subtypes, however, with significant differences between subtypes with most promising results for KS, AS and CCS.
