  • An Evaluation of the Architecture Analysis and Design Language for Automobile Applications : Technical Report: C4-01 TR M52
  • 2009
  • Rapport (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Due to the growing complexity of software systems in modern automo- biles, the software architecture design phase becomes more and more important. Useful tools and languages are speci¯cally needed to man- age this complexity. Recently, the Architecture Analysis and Design Language (AADL) has been proposed as a modeling language for crit- ical systems and this language is becoming increasingly popular in the automobile industry. In order to test whether AADL is suitable for modeling software in automobile systems, we provide in this technical report a critical evaluation of the capabilities and features of this new language. Speci¯cally, we evaluate AADL against a set of requirements that have been identi¯ed based on an exhaustive literature review and experiences gained from modeling an Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) in AADL. The objective of this paper is to evaluate the suitability of AADL and identify gaps that would require future research and devel- opment.

  • Architecture Description Languages for Automotive Systems - A Literature Review : Technical Report: C4-01 TR M49
  • 2008
  • Rapport (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • An Architecture Description Language (ADL) can be described as a language designed to model a system at an architectural level with respect to its software, hardware, and communication links. Due to the increasing complexity of software systems in areas like embedded control and web-based information systems, modelling with ADLs have gained attention in the research community and in practical software development projects. The specific aim of this technical report is to provide a literature review on ADLs for automotive software systems. This literature review consequently focuses on aspects that are relevant for automotive systems like safety, reliability and modelling of Electronic Control Units (ECU).

  • C4-01 TR M50, Adaptive Cruise Controllers – A Literature Review
  • 2008
  • Rapport (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • An Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) is an automobile system which purpose is control the velocity of the vehicle with regards to the surrounding environment. This report gives description of ACC models, a detailed description of the architecture of the ACC, and a survey of the ACCs on the market of today.

  • Timed Simulation of Extended AADL-Based Architecture Specifications with Timed Abstract State Machines
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: Architectures for Adaptive Software Systems. - Berlin : Springer. - 9783642023507 ; , s. 101-115
  • Bokkapitel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The Architecture Analysis and Design Language (AADL) is a popular language for architectural modeling and analysis of software intensive systems in application domains such as automotive, avionics, railway and medical systems. These systems often have stringent real-time requirements. This paper presents an extension to AADL's behavior model using time annotations in order to improve the evaluation of timing properties in AADL. The translational semantics of this extension is based on mappings to the Timed Abstract State Machines (TASM) language. As a result, timing analysis with timed simulation or timed model checking is possible. The translation is supported by art Eclipse-based plug-in and the approach is validated with a case study of an industrial production cell system.

  • Evaluating Dependability Attributes of Component-Based Specifications
  • 2007
  • Ingår i: Proceedings - International Conference on Software Engineering 2007. - 0769528929 ; , s. 157-158
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Component-Based Development (CBD) is established in many application domains. There is a strong trend in applying the same approach in different domains of dependable systems. However, a precondition of a successful use of CBD in these domains is the utilization of theories, methods and technologies to predict and evaluate dependability attributes. This tutorial gives an analysis of current methodologies of attribute-specific evaluation methods for dependable component-based systems. We identify limitations of the current technologies, discusses existing and possible new solutions to overcome these limitations both from a esearch-oriented and practical perspective.

  • Co-evolution of software architecture and fault tree models: An explorative case study on a pick and place factory automation system.
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: Proc. of the 5th International Workshop on Non-functional Properties in Modeling, September 29, Miami, USA, 2013. ; :1074
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Safety-critical systems are subject to rigorous safety analyses, e.g., hazard analyses. Fault trees are a deductive technique to derive the combination of faults which cause a hazard. There is a tight relationship between fault trees and system architecture as the components contain the faults and the component structure influences the fault combinations. In this paper, we describe an explorative case study on multiple evolution scenarios of a factory automation system. We report on the evolution steps on the system architecture models and fault trees and how the evolution steps in the different models relate to each other.

  • Guidelines for Artifacts to Support Industry-Relevant Research on Self-Adaptation
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Software Engineering Notes. - : ACM Press. - 0163-5948 .- 1943-5843. ; 47:4, s. 18-24
  • Tidskriftsartikel (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Artifacts support evaluating new research results and help comparing them with the state of the art in a field of interest. Over the past years, several artifacts have been introduced to support research in the field of self-adaptive systems. While these artifacts have shown their value, it is not clear to what extent these artifacts support research on problems in self-adaptation that are relevant to industry. This paper provides a set of guidelines for artifacts that aim at supporting industry-relevant research on selfadaptation. The guidelines that are grounded on data obtained from a survey with practitioners were derived during working sessions at the 17th International Symposium on Software Engineering for Adaptive and Self-Managing Systems. Artifact providers can use the guidelines for aligning future artifacts with industry needs; they can also be used to evaluate the industrial relevance of existing artifacts. We also propose an artifact template.
