  • Experimental observation of soliton robustness to polarisation dispersion pulse broadening
  • 1999
  • Ingår i: Electronics Letters. - : Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET). - 1350-911X .- 0013-5194. ; 35:1, s. 65-66
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Soliton robustness to polarisation dispersion pulse broadening in a 400km installed optical fibre is experimentally demonstrated. With 10ps input pulses and a differential group delay of 7.6ps, the soliton pulsewidth at the receiver is maintained within 10-11ps when the input polarisation is changed, while the corresponding range for dispersion-compensated linear pulses is 10.5-15.5ps.

  • Measurement of the differential group delay in installed optical fibers using polarization multiplexed solitons
  • 1999
  • Ingår i: IEEE Photonics Technology Letters. - : Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). - 1041-1135 .- 1941-0174. ; 11:5, s. 593-595
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We experimentally demonstrate a new technique for measurement of the differential group delay (DGD) in optical fibers using polarization-division multiplexed (PDM) solitons: the change in the separation of orthogonally polarized solitons propagating along different principal axes in a fiber equals the DGD at the signal wavelength. Based on this principle, we use PDM solitons to measure the accumulated DGD at different distances along a 400-km installed fiber. The measured DGD exhibits the expected square-root-of-length dependence, corresponding to a polarization-mode dispersion of 0.26 ps/km1/2. The results are in excellent agreement with those obtained by a commercial instrument utilizing Jones matrix eigenanalysis.

  • Backhaul evolution
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Ericsson Review (English Edition). - 0014-0171. ; 95:2, s. 24-36
  • Tidskriftsartikel (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Microwave backhaul technology plays a significant role in providing reliable mobile network performance and is well prepared to support both the evolution of LTE and the introduction of 5G. Work has now started on the longer-term use of frequencies beyond 100GHz, targeting the support of 5G evolution toward 2030.

  • A W-band, 92-114 GHz, real-time spectral efficient radio link demonstrating 10 Gbps peak rate in field trial
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: IEEE MTT-S International Microwave Symposium Digest. - 0149-645X. ; 2022-June, s. 545-548
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper reports on a real-time radio-link at W-band (92-114 GHz). 10 Gbps peak rate is reached for a 2000 MHz carrier bandwidth, and 5.7 Gbps is demonstrated over a link-hop of 1.5 km for a 1500 MHz-carrier, running at 128 QAM and 32 QAM, respectively. High integrated radio front-end SIP modules using GaAs technology, achieves a linear TX channel power of +8 dBm, and RX NF of 8 dB from the radio. It is configured to achieve 5.7 Gbps in a radio link with 149 dB system gain.

  • Nonlinearity-based all-optical sampling of ultrahigh-bandwidth optical signals
  • 2004
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of SPIE - The International Society for Optical Engineering. - : SPIE. - 0277-786X .- 1996-756X. ; 5596, s. 319-331
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We demonstrate an all-optical waveform sampling system with simultaneous sub-mW optical signal sensitivity (20 dB SNR) and sub-picosecond temporal resolution over more than 60 nm optical bandwidth. The optical sampling was implemented by four-wave mixing in a 10 m highly nonlinear fiber using a sampling pulse source with a sampling pulse peak power of only 16 W. The sampling performance was evaluated in terms of sensitivity, temporal resolution and optical bandwidth with respect to fiber length, sampling pulse source wavelength offset from the zero-dispersion wavelength of the highly nonlinear fiber, sampling pulse peak power and walk-off due to chromatic dispersion. We also present a summary of the available methods to achieve polarization-independent optical sampling.

  • Demonstration of analog millimeter-wave fronthaul for 64-QAM LTE transmission
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: IEEE Vehicular Technology Conference. - 1550-2252.
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Centralized baseband architecture is believed to be cost efficient and to offer high network performance. The fronthaul network, connecting the centralized baseband to distributed remote radios, requires high capacity and low latency transport links, due to the stringent specifications of the data interface, known as common public radio interface (CPRI). Today, fronthaul links are mostly based on digital CPRI over fibers, although it is possible to realize CPRI over wireless technology with the drawback of poor bandwidth efficiency. In this paper, we propose an analog wireless fronthaul concept to enable bandwidth efficient and scalable fronthaul networks. The basic idea is to transport narrow band analog radio signals over millimeter-wave bands instead of multi-gigabit digital signals. The phase and frequency impairments introduced by high frequency carriers are effectively reduced using an analog pilot-based mitigation technique. As a proof-of-concept demonstration, an analog fronthaul link is implemented, and the link performance is verified for 20 MHz 64-QAM LTE transmission over 70/80 GHz (E-band). The measured error vector magnitude (EVM) is about 3% with 10% pilot bandwidth overhead.

  • Impact of PMD on four-wave-mixing-induced crosstalk in WDM systems
  • 2000
  • Ingår i: IEEE Photonics Technology Letters. - : Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). - 1041-1135 .- 1941-0174. ; 12:9, s. 1261-1263
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The impact of polarization-mode dispersion (PMD) on four-wave mixing crosstalk in wavelength-division-multiplexed (WDM) fiber systems is quantified on a commercial system. It is found that even a small amount of PMD reduces the benefit of using polarization-multiplexed channels for suppression of crosstalk. As a rule of thumb, it is suggested that polarization-multiplexed schemes are of significant interest only when system differential group-delay (DGD) is smaller than DGD <1/(4Δf), where Δf is the channel-spacing.
