Vi som utbildar blivande bibliotekarier gläds över remissen som i linje med forskning visar skolbibliotekets och skolbibliotekariers betydelse för elevers lärande. Samtidigt konstaterar vi att en lagändring också måste följas av riktade satsningar på landets bibliotekarieutbildningar för att förverkligas, skriver 16 biblioteksforskare.

- Artiklarna i denna festskrift anknyter på olika sätt till Prof. Kerstin Rydbecks forskning och akademiska karriär på Uppsala universitet. Hon har ägnat sin forskargärning till frågor som rör folkbildning, läsning och folkbibliotek. Ett flertal kapitel diskuterar således läsning från olika perspektiv, framförallt metoden Shared Reading. Det finns kapitel som anknyter till folkbildningsforskning, biblioteks- och kulturarvsforskning i Sverige och i Norden samt även artiklar som problematiserar bibliometri, universitetens offentliga roll, samt digital humaniora. Därtill belyser flera kapitel Kerstins insatser inom Uppsala universitet och i olika former av internationella samarbeten. Tanken med boken är att uppmärksamma Kerstins forskargärning, men samtidigt också skapa ett betydande bidrag till kunskap och forskning inom de områden där hon har varit och är verksam.

Resources for scholarly documentation in professional service organizations : A study of Swedish development-led archaeology report writing

- This information studies dissertation deals with the problem that results from research outside academia risk to receive little or no attention if communicated through reports, instead of in mainstream academic genres like research journal articles. The case in focus is Swedish development-led (DL) archaeology, i.e. state regulated archaeology preceding land development. Swedish DL archaeology is organized as a semi-regulated market. The organizations competing on the market are professional service organizations selling research services to land developers. Regional government departments, county administrative boards, function as intermediaries setting up procurement-like processes.In previous research on archaeological documentation, the problem with non-use of reports has been described as depending on cultural issues of access, possible to solve if individuals make efforts to communicate and use extra-academic results. This dissertation offers an alternative definition of the problem, highlighting a different set of solutions. The aim is to further the understanding of how the distribution of research duties to professional service organizations affects the scholarly documentation in Swedish archaeology. The aim is met through identification, operationalization and analysis of resources available to report writing DL archaeology practitioners, and an analysis of how practitioners draw on these resources. The results further the understanding of how reports are shaped within the DL archaeology institution. In view of these results, efforts to solve issues of access should target the organization of research in the archaeology discipline, and specifically how scholarly documentation is governed on the archaeology market.The dissertation draws on science and technology studies, practice theory, and document theory for the design of the study of documentation resources and contexts in extra-academic research. A mixed methods approach is applied to capture regulative, institutional, and infrastructural resources, and practitioners’ use thereof. Dissertation papers I-III contain analyses of concrete instantiations of the resources: information policy, documentation ideals, and information source use. The fourth paper presents an analysis of how practitioners draw on these resources in their everyday report writing. The dissertation concerns archaeology specifically, but serves as grounds to inquire into the premises for scholarly documentation in other areas of extra-academic research and knowledge-making as well.

The reading practices of people with neuropsychiatric disabilities : A review of library and information science literature

- Introduction. The ability to read and interpret different types of text can be significantly impacted by neuropsychiatric disabilities, which affect cognitive abilities. This paper explores and reviews previous studies within library and information science on neuropsychiatric disabilities in relation to reading practices. Method. Searches were performed in LISA and LISTA to identify research on readers with neuropsychiatric disabilities. Results were screened and 14 peer reviewed articles were chosen for inclusion. Utilising content analysis, the examined articles were deductively and inductively categorised according to the following themes: impairment, user group and context, research design, assistive technologies for reading, reading for information seeking, reading for evaluation, and reading, self-efficacy and identity.Findings. Most articles address dyslexia. The majority of studies have been conducted in educational settings and have an experimental research design. Six studies address assistive technologies for reading, the remaining eight concern reading in relation to information practices.Conclusion. There is an imbalance in the types of impairments that have been addressed in previous research. Few studies concern everyday reading practices and more research outside of educational contexts is needed. Furthermore, there is a lack of research that delves deeper into the experiences of readers with neuropsychiatric disabilities.

- Sekretariatet för nationell biblioteksstrategi vid Kungliga Biblioteket har givit de fem biblioteks- och informationsvetenskapliga utbildningarna vid Högskolan i Borås, Linnéuniversitetet, Lunds univeritet, Umeå universitet och Uppsala universitet uppdraget att utreda och formulera förslag kring utbildning och forskning för en stärkt bibliotekarieprofession. Syftet med föreliggande rapport är, att visa situationen för svensk biblioteks- och informationsvetenskap, tydliggöra relationen till bibliotekarieprofessionen och lämna strategiska förslag på hur ämnet kan förstärkas till förmån för en stärkt professionsutvecklig. En omvärldsanalys med riktning mot bibliotekssektorn görs samt en beskrivning av nuläget för biblioteks- och informationsvetenskaplig utbildning och forskning. Biblioteks- och informationsvetenskapens centrala betydelse för bibliotekarieprofessionen lyfts fram. Utbildingsprogrammen i ämnet attraherar gott om studenter och som svar på bibliotekens konstaterade behov av biblioteks- och informationsvetenskapligt utbildad personal argumenterar rapportförfattarna för möjligheten att expandera utbildningarna på kandidat- och masternivå vid samtliga fem lärosäten. Inom forskningen konstateras, att trots att ämnet idag i grunden fungerar väl finns ännu svårigheter att erhålla finansiering för professionsinriktad biblioteksforskning. Omvärldsanalysen visar upp ett behov av en tydligare struktur för kontinuerlig kompetensutveckling inom bibliotekarieprofessionen. Rapporten mynnar ut i fem strategiska förslag rörande grundutbildning, forskning och kontinuerlig kompetensutveckling:En ökning av antalet studieplatser på program på kandidat- och masternivå i biblioteks- och informationsvetenskap.Nationell forskarskola för biblioteksforskning.Inrättande av en externfinansierad professur med inriktning mot biblioteksforskning.Stärkt finansieringsstruktur för biblioteksforskning.Etablerande av en samlad nationell struktur för kontinuerlig kompetensutveckling.

- Planning and evaluation has become increasingly important within the Swedish public library sphere. The aim of this article is to problematize the libraries’ (the Royal Library, the regional libraries and the public libraries) task to evaluate the design and use of ‘library plans’. The task will be described in relation to the development of the Swedish library legislation and the evolution of library plans as an administrative phenomenon. The analytical focus in the article is the concept of use as applied in government practice and library practice. The empirical material consists of documents reflecting the enforcement of use of plans and evaluation of use of plans, and of qualitative interviews with library staff reflecting plans in library practice. The analysis shows how government practice in combination with library practice creates an administrative habit regarding the use, and evaluation of use of plans. Nonetheless the government practice has the first word in deciding which concepts should dominate the library administration. In the concluding discussion we argue the current library administration – and the concepts such as plans, use of plans and plan evaluation, dominating that administration – might be altered if there would be alternatives to the current administrative trends with strong influences from market economy logics.
