  • Evaluation of CPC-collector designs for stand-alone, roof- or wall installation
  • 2005
  • Ingår i: Solar Energy. - : Elsevier BV. - 0038-092X .- 1471-1257. ; 79:6, s. 638-647
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • An asymmetrically truncated non-tracking compound parabolic concentrator type collector design concept has been developed. The collector type has a bi-facial absorber and is optimised for northern latitudes. The concept is based on a general reflector form that is truncated to fit different installation conditions. In this paper collectors for stand-alone, roof and wall mounting are studied. Prototypes of six different collectors have been built and outdoor tested. The evaluation gave high annual energy outputs for a roof mounted collector, 925 MJ/m2, and a stand-alone collector with Teflon, 781 MJ/m2, at an operating temperature of Top = 75 °C. A special design for roofs facing east or west was also investigated and gave an annual energy output of 349 (east) and 436 (west) MJ/m2 at Top = 75 °C. If a high solar fraction over the year is the objective, a load adapted collector with a high output during spring/fall and a low output during summer can be used. Such a collector had an output of 490 MJ/m2 at Top = 75 °C. Finally a concentrating collector for wall mounting was evaluated with an estimated annual output of 194 MJ/m2 at Top = 75 °C. The concentrator design concept can also be used for concentrators for PV-modules.

  • Förbränning av utsorterade avfallsfraktioner
  • 2005

  • Sulfation of corrosive alkali chlorides by ammonium sulfate in a biomass fired CFB boiler
  • 2007
  • Ingår i: Fuel processing technology. - Amsterdam : Elsevier Bv. - 0378-3820 .- 1873-7188. ; 88:11-12, s. 1171-1177
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Biomass and waste derived fuels contain relatively high amounts of alkali and chlorine, but contain very little sulfur. Combustion of such fuels can result in increased deposit formation and superheater corrosion. These problems can be reduced by using a sulfur containing additive, such as ammonium sulfate, which reacts with the alkali chlorides and forms less corrosive sulfates. Ammonium sulfate injection together with a so-called in situ alkali chloride monitor (IACM) is patented and known as "ChlorOut". IACM measures the concentrations of alkali chlorides (mainly KCl in biomass combustion) at superheater temperatures. Tests with and without spraying ammonium sulfate into the flue gases have been performed in a 96MW(th)/25MW(e) circulating fluidized bed (CFB) boiler. The boiler was fired mainly with bark and a chlorine containing waste. KCl concentration was reduced from more than 15 ppm to approximately 2 ppm. during injection of ammonium sulfate. Corrosion probe measurements indicated that both deposit formation and material loss due to corrosion were decreased using the additive. Analysis of the deposits showed significantly higher concentration of sulfur and almost no chlorine in the case with ammonium sulfate. Results from impactor measurements supported that KCl was sulfated to potassium sulfate by the additive. (C) 2007 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

  • Codex and Code : Aestethcis, Language and Politics in an Age of Digital Media, NORLIT 2009, Stockholm, August 6-9, 2009
  • 2010
  • Samlingsverk (redaktörskap) (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The conference Codex and Code: Aesthetics, Language and Politics in an Age of Digital Media (NorLit 2009)was held at the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) in Stockholm, August 6–9, 2009. The conference was organized by the Nordic Association for Comparative Literature (NorLit); the Department of Culture and Communication, Linköping University; the School of Computer Science and Communication, Royal Institute of Technology (KTH); the Department of Comparative Literature, Stockholm University; the Department of Culture and Communication, Södertörn University College; and the Department of Comparative Literature, Uppsala University.    The aim of the conference was to develop the study of Comparative Literature through Nordic collaboration both in its own discipline and in Modern Language and Cultural studies. As the title for the conference suggests, the principal question for the conference was the challenge that the study of literature encounters in an age of digitalization and globalization. It was our aim to encourage discussion of how literary studies respond to the ongoing changes in media and technology, politics and economy. Many have argued that the Humanities currently are in a state of crisis. We believe that the discipline seldom has found itself in such an interesting and fruitful historical moment. Several of these questions have surfaced during earlier media system changes, in particular during Romanticism and Modernism, which provided the conference with an historical frame. The conference Codex and Code also addressed questions of authenticity and originality, identity and gender, literary genres and reading practices, media and materiality, culture and popular culture, language and history, world literature, work aesthetics, translations, and canon formation.    The conference Codex and Code wanted to stimulate interdisciplinary scholarly research of the literary in a broad sense. The conference was open to scholars in Comparative Literature and in Classical and Modern Languages, Aesthetics, Media and Communication studies, Film and Theatre studies, Philosophy and adjacent disciplines. The conference was organized around a number of thematic sessions in which researchers and scholars presented and discussed papers.    The conference has received generous financial support from the Bank of Sweden Tercentenary Foundation, Magnus Bergwall foundation, Granholms foundation, Linköping University, School of Computer Science and Communication, Royal Institute of Technology, Svenska litteratursällskapet; the Swedish Academy, Swedish Science Council, and Vitterhetsakademien.

  • Being, Doing, and Knowing : Developing Ethical Competence in Health Care
  • 2007
  • Ingår i: Journal of Academic Ethics. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1570-1727 .- 1572-8544. ; 5:2-4, s. 207-216
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • There is a growing interest in ethical competence-building within nursing and health care practising. This tendency is accompanied by a remarkable growth of ethical guidelines. Ethical demands have also been laid down in laws. Present-day practitioners and researchers in health care are thereby left in a virtual cross-fire of various legislations, codes, and recommendations, all intended to guide behaviour. The aim of this paper was to investigate the role of ethical guidelines in the process of ethical competence-building within health care practice and medical research. A conceptual and critical philosophical analysis of some paragraphs of the Helsinki Declaration and of relevant literature was performed. Three major problems related to ethical guidelines were identified, namely, the interpretation problem (there is always a gap between the rule and the practice, which implies that ethical competence is needed for those who are to implement the guidelines); the multiplicity problem (the great number of codes, declarations, and laws might pull in different directions, which may confuse the health care providers who are to follow them); and the legalisation problem (ethics concerns may take on a legal form, where ethical reflection is replaced by a procedure of legal interpretations). Virtue ethics might be an alternative to a rule based approach. This position, however, can turn ethics into a tacit knowledge, leading to poorly reflected and inconsistent ethical decisions. Ethical competence must consist of both being (virtues) and doing (rules and principles), but also of knowing (critical reflection), and therefore a communicative based model is suggested.

  • Do Ethical Guidelines Give Guidance? : A critical examination of eight ethics regulations
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: Cambridge Quarterly of Healthcare Ethics. - 0963-1801 .- 1469-2147. ; 17:1, s. 15-29
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The number of legal and nonlegal ethical regulations in the biomedical field has increased tremendously, leaving present-day practitioners and researchers in a virtual crossfire of legislations and guidelines. Judging by the production and by the way these regulations are motivated and presented, they are held to be of great importance to ethical practice. This view is shared by many commentators. For instance, Commons and Baldwin write that, within the nursing profession, patient care can be performed unethically or ethically depending on the professional standards the nurses have set for themselves. They also hold that such standards are set when nurses become aware of the ethical codes available. As nurses are often not familiar with the codes, they do not all conform to them. Commons and Baldwin argue that nurses' ability to deal with ethical dilemmas is effectively secured with education on guidelines, creating a “barrier” between personal and professional values (p. 5).
