  • Distrubution Center Location Analysis for Nordic Countries by Using Network Optimization Tools
  • 2018
  • Rapport (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Many supply chain and logistics related location decisions are driven by demand. This paper analyses population densities in Sweden, Finland, Norway and partly Denmark and analyses how a minimum impedance approach would set up the distribution center (DC) locations. For each scenario, travel time maps are generated. Firstly, each country is analyzed separately and 1...5 DC cases are analyzed. Then a merged Nordic area is introduced and a similar approach is used to set up 1…6 DCs. Finally, a sensitivity analysis is conducted to study how the large population of Umeå or Vaasa should be increased in order to make the top five in the Nordic level. The results show distribution centers could be formed in the case of population driven demand products. This also gives insight into how the results can vary when changing perspective from national analysis to Nordic level.

  • Industrial services : the solution provider’s stairway to heaven or highway to hell?
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: Benchmarking. - 1463-5771 .- 1758-4094. ; 22:2, s. 170-185
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • PurposeThe role of industrial services has increased in importance as product manufacturing oriented companies. Service offerings, service business models and methods of service delivery are developed by using new technologies. This paper discusses solution providers perspective by illustrating central approaches tapping into industrial services, such as environment-strategy-fit, scope of industrial service offering, industrial service business capabilities, and servitization process. Design/methodology/approachThe paper reviews literature related to industrial service phenomenon: framework for Industrial Service Fit; defining industrial service business; defining industrial service business capabilities; and a critical perspective toward industrial service business research.FindingsAccording to literature three maturity levels of servitization in manufacturing companies were identified: 1) equipment providers, 2) solution providers and 3) performance providers. The papers introduced for the spcial issues show examples that industrial services are bundled into larger set of physical products and this may enable new strategic possibilities for manufacturing firms. Originality/valueThe existing theory related industrial services can be strengthened by technology digitalization and enable operational and outsourcing services, in addition to performance services.

  • Dissimilarities between the national cost/benefit models of road projects : Comparing appraisals in Nordic countries
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Transportation research Interdisciplinary Perspectives. - : Elsevier. - 2590-1982. ; 8
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The Nordic Council has a vision to create the most integrated region globally by 2030. Nevertheless, Nordic cross-border infrastructure projects are generally developed by each nation individually. Joint Nordic infrastructure planning is thus fragmented. An example of this, as reported herein, is how road projects are assessed by the infrastructure planning authorities in Norway, Sweden, and Finland, the latter to which is included in the comparison for the first time. In each country, cost/benefit analyses (CBAs) are used. In each nation, the monetary values of changes in travel time, accidents, and environmental externalities are estimated. We then apply those values to the three national CBA models to assess an illustrative hypothetical road project. Theoretically, the models should provide similar outcomes when using a common set of parameters. Instead, we show that the choice of national model is crucial to the outcome. The Swedish model, for example, generates a higher cost of travel time than the other models irrespective of the nation from which we choose the parameters. Consequently, CBA-based assessments in the Nordic area depend strongly on the model applied and peculiarities in its coding. Finally, we discuss the policy implications of our findings for appraising national and Nordic projects.

  • Successfully managing business networks in supply chain : minimizing transaction costs and maximizing commitments in buyer-supplier relationships
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: 25th annual IPSERA Conference. Sunday 20 March - Wednesday 23 March 2016. - : Technical University of Dortmund. ; , s. 1-16
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Based on transaction cost economics and social exchange theory, the purpose of this study is to investigate the significant relationship developing factors in supply chain that may help to reduce the transaction costs and to examine the impact on relational commitment. The integrated framework is tested by applying structural equation modeling for 170 Finnish SMEs. The results present the impact of economic and social factors on transaction cost and relational commitment. The findings indicate the important interaction effects between economic and social factors in relation to minimize transaction cost along with important implications for managers to develop long-term business relationships.

  • A framework for a network-level performance measurement system in SME networks
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Networking and Virtual Organisations. - 1470-9503 .- 1741-5225. ; 5:3-4, s. 415-435
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The present study aims to present a theoretical framework for a network-level performance measurement system. The suggested framework for the performance measurement system is composed of the factors that enable and cause the productivity and profitability of the network form of organisation. The framework developed in this study can be divided into six subdimensions: (1) network culture, (2) resources and competences, (3) models of action, (4) internal processes, (5) customer perspective and (6) financial indicators of the network. We argue that this framework provides research opportunities to study the performance of the network form of organisation; but even more importantly, it provides a unique framework to analyse and develop network organisations in practice.
