  • Garbage collector interface
  • 2002
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the Tenth Nordic Workshop on Programming and Software Development Tools and Techniques (NWPER 2002).
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The purpose of the presented garbage collector interface is to provide a universal interface for many different implementations of garbage collectors. This is to simplify the integration and exchange of garbage collectors, but also to support incremental, non-conservative, and thread safe implementations. Due to the complexity of the interface, it is aimed at code generators and preprocessors. Experiences from ongoing implementations indicate that the garbage collector interface successfully provides the necessary functionality in an efficient way,

  • Helicobacter pylori adapts to chronic infection and gastric disease via ph-responsive baba-mediated adherence
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Cell Host and Microbe. - : Elsevier BV. - 1931-3128 .- 1934-6069. ; 21:3, s. 376-389
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The BabA adhesin mediates high-affinity binding of Helicobacter pylori to the ABO blood group antigen-glycosylated gastric mucosa. Here we show that BabA is acid responsive-binding is reduced at low pH and restored by acid neutralization. Acid responsiveness differs among strains; often correlates with different intragastric regions and evolves during chronic infection and disease progression; and depends on pH sensor sequences in BabA and on pH reversible formation of high-affinity binding BabA multimers. We propose that BabA's extraordinary reversible acid responsiveness enables tight mucosal bacterial adherence while also allowing an effective escape from epithelial cells and mucus that are shed into the acidic bactericidal lumen and that bio-selection and changes in BabA binding properties through mutation and recombination with babA-related genes are selected by differences among individuals and by changes in gastric acidity over time. These processes generate diverse H. pylori subpopulations, in which BabA's adaptive evolution contributes to H. pylori persistence and overt gastric disease.

  • Novel 3D culture system with similarities to the human heart for studies of the cardiac stem cell niche.
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: Regenerative medicine. - : Future Medicine Ltd. - 1746-076X .- 1746-0751. ; 5:5, s. 725-36
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • AIMS: The aim of this study was to develop a 3D culture system with similarities to the human heart, which was suitable for studies of adult cardiac stem or progenitor cells. MATERIALS & METHODS: Dissociated cells from human cardiac biopsies were placed in high-density pellet cultures and cultured for up to 6 weeks. Gene and protein expressions, analyzed by quantitative real-time PCR and immunohistochemistry, and morphology were studied in early and late pellets. RESULTS: Cells cultured in the 3D model showed similarities to human cardiac tissue. Moreover, markers for cardiac stem and progenitor cells were also detected after 6 weeks of culture, in addition to markers for signaling pathways active in stem cell niche regulation. CONCLUSIONS: The described 3D culture model could be a valuable tool when studying the influence of different compounds on proliferation and differentiation processes in cardiac stem or progenitor cells in cardiac regenerative research.

  • Validation of automated sepsis surveillance based on the Sepsis-3 clinical criteria against physician record review in a general hospital population : observational study using electronic health records data
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: BMJ Quality and Safety. - : BMJ Publishing Group Ltd. - 2044-5415 .- 2044-5423. ; 29:9, s. 735-745
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background: Surveillance of sepsis incidence is important for directing resources and evaluating quality-of-care interventions. The aim was to develop and validate a fully-automated Sepsis-3 based surveillance system in non-intensive care wards using electronic health record (EHR) data, and demonstrate utility by determining the burden of hospital-onset sepsis and variations between wards. Methods: A rule-based algorithm was developed using EHR data from a cohort of all adult patients admitted at an academic centre between July 2012 and December 2013. Time in intensive care units was censored. To validate algorithm performance, a stratified random sample of 1000 hospital admissions (674 with and 326 without suspected infection) was classified according to the Sepsis-3 clinical criteria (suspected infection defined as having any culture taken and at least two doses of antimicrobials administered, and an increase in Sequential Organ Failure Assessment (SOFA) score by >2 points) and the likelihood of infection by physician medical record review. Results: In total 82 653 hospital admissions were included. The Sepsis-3 clinical criteria determined by physician review were met in 343 of 1000 episodes. Among them, 313 (91%) had possible, probable or definite infection. Based on this reference, the algorithm achieved sensitivity 0.887 (95% CI: 0.799 to 0.964), specificity 0.985 (95% CI: 0.978 to 0.991), positive predictive value 0.881 (95% CI: 0.833 to 0.926) and negative predictive value 0.986 (95% CI: 0.973 to 0.996). When applied to the total cohort taking into account the sampling proportions of those with and without suspected infection, the algorithm identified 8599 (10.4%) sepsis episodes. The burden of hospital-onset sepsis (>48 hour after admission) and related in-hospital mortality varied between wards. Conclusions: A fully-automated Sepsis-3 based surveillance algorithm using EHR data performed well compared with physician medical record review in non-intensive care wards, and exposed variations in hospital-onset sepsis incidence between wards.

  • Abnormal DNA damage-inducible protein in cells from Sjogren's syndrome patients
  • 1998
  • Ingår i: Journal of Autoimmunity. - : Elsevier BV. - 0896-8411. ; 11:4, s. 363-369
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Antinuclear antibodies are commonly found in patients with Sjogren's syndrome. It has been suggested that the development of antinuclear antibodies depends on the activation of the spliceosome and other transcription-related subcellular particles, some of which have recently been shown also to function in DNA-modifying processes, such as DNA repair and V(D)J recombination. These observations add weight to a previously proposed model for the aetiology of Sjogren's syndrome. This includes the abnormal processing of the T-cell receptor and immunoglobulin genes. To test this hypothesis further, the present study on DNA-modifying proteins in Sjogren's syndrome was initiated. Gel-shift experiments using protein extracted from UV-treated Sjogren cells provided evidence of high molecular weight DNA-binding protein in six out of 12 Sjogren patients studied (but not among seven healthy controls). Some Sjogren sera displayed antibodies to protein extracts from cells treated with psoralen plus UVA radiation. These results indicate an abnormal DNA damage-inducible response in Sjogren's syndrome. It may therefore be concluded that alterations in nuclear protein may play a role in the aetiology of Sjogren's syndrome.

  • HSV underkänner bra utbildningar
  • 2013
  • Annan publikation (populärvet., debatt m.m.)abstract
