  • Lifelong Learning Through Context Collapse : Higher education Teachers’ Narratives About Online education During The Pandemic
  • 2022
  • In: Proceedings of INTED2022 Conference 7th-8th March 2022. - : IATED. - 9788409377589 ; , s. 2632-2641
  • Conference paper (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • The COVID-19 pandemic has elicited a shift from campus classrooms to distance education in higher education worldwide, shaping not only students’ experiences, but also those of teachers, especially those who never have taught online. In addition, the pandemic created a meta-context that has positioned distance education as something different from previous efforts. This study aimed to investigate higher education teachers’ experiences during the transition from classroom to online teaching by using a collective auto-ethnography method based on 13 personal stories from Swedish faculty. For the abductive approach in the analysis, a framework that combines lifelong learning theory with the context collapse concept has been applied. The disjuncture that the pandemic has elicited created a situation in which teachers had to make sense of the fact that their previous experiences did not completely fit the new situation. Context collapse, a term used to describe encounters with many audiences in social media, has been introduced to highlight the clash between professional and private contexts in online educational platforms. Based on lifelong learning theories, we suggest that context collapse should be examined in terms of how it can help improve higher education, as it holds the potential to include the entire person – body and mind – in education.

  • Early Holocaust Memory in Sweden : Archives, Testimonies and Reflections
  • 2020. - 1
  • Editorial collection (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • This book investigates the memory of the Holocaust in Sweden and concentrates on early initiatives to document and disseminate information about the genocide during the late 1940s until the early 1960s. As the first collection of testimonies and efforts to acknowledge the Holocaust contributed to historical research, judicial processes, public discussion, and commemorations in the universalistic Swedish welfare state, the chapters analyse how and in what ways the memory of the Holocaust began to take shape, showing the challenges and opportunities that were faced in addressing the traumatic experiences of a minority. In Sweden, the Jewish trauma could be linked to positive rescue actions instead of disturbing politics of collaboration, suggesting that the Holocaust memory was less controversial than in several European nations following the war. This book seeks to understand how and in what ways the memory of the Holocaust began to take shape in the developing Swedish welfare state and emphasises the role of transnational Jewish networks for the developing Holocaust memory in Sweden.

  • Beyond fact and fiction : Cultural memory and transmedia ethics in Netflix’s The Crown
  • 2023
  • In: European Journal of Cultural Studies. - : Sage Publications. - 1367-5494 .- 1460-3551. ; 26:6, s. 803-821
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • The aim of this study is to discuss the potential ethical implications of the fictionalization of historical events represented across multiple media platforms – under the powerful umbrella of streaming media services en général and Netflix in particular – to examine the potential impact fictionalization has on what is culturally remembered and what is forgotten. Combining theoretical approaches from transmedia studies and cultural memory, the article addresses possible ethical conundrums involved in the Netflix historical drama series about the reign of Queen Elizabeth II: The Crown. Methodologically, the article is structured as a case study underpinned by the multidimensional analytical model proposed by Erll, chosen to explore how the blurred lines between fact and fiction of the flagship historical drama The Crown could have ethical implications for and impact on what is remembered and what is forgotten regarding recent memories of the British Royal Family. The research findings indicate that a deeper understanding of the conventions of the historical fiction genre, as well as the transmedial ramifications of streaming media productions, could potentially mitigate the ethical implications of The Crown, going above and beyond fact and fiction.

  • Streaming media and the dynamics of remembering and forgetting : The Chernobyl case
  • 2022
  • In: Memory Studies. - : Sage Publications. - 1750-6980 .- 1750-6999. ; 15:2, s. 271-286
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • The aim of this study is to elucidate the mnemonic conditions established in the ever-increasing production and use of cultural memory in streaming media environments. To gain in-depth insight into how memories are selected for remembering and sorted for forgetting, the focus is the HBO Chernobyl mini-series. The case study of HBO?s Chernobyl is selected to qualitatively explore cultural memories across the series throughout the complexities of globally connected technologies and markets, where different cultures and languages, as well as media framings, come into play. Theoretically, the article is based on conceptualization of cultural memory studies and streaming media platforms. Methodologically, the case study is supported by the multidimensional analytical lens developed by Erll, adopted to elucidate how the cultural memory of Chernobyl is activated, mediated, and shaped by the streaming series. These three dimensions involve the intra-medial aspects of how memory is expressed within the representation itself, the inter-medial relations which designate the interplay with previous representations of the same historical event, and the pluri-medial contexts in which novels and films appear and exert their influence on cultural memory. In the three-dimension analysis, we address the construction and circulation of cultural memory from the production to the reception of the mini-series in multiple media environments and across borders, depicting the social, cultural, and political impact of streaming media productions.

  • 2011
  • In: Populär Historia. - Malmö : Historisk Media. ; :8, s. 39-41
  • Journal article (pop. science, debate, etc.)abstract

  • 2016
  • In: Respons : recensionstidskrift för humaniora & samhällsvetenskap. - 2001-2292. ; :6, s. 9-11
  • Review (other academic/artistic)abstract

  • Archives on victims of Nazism in Sweden : From oral history to cultural memory or oblivion
  • 2023
  • In: Memories of the Second World War in Neutral Europe, 1945-2023. - : Taylor and Francis. - 9781003152422 ; , s. 155-168
  • Book chapter (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • This chapter discusses how several repositories of testimonies from World War II refugees in Sweden were archived and consequently either remembered or forgotten. By analysing and contextualising these collections in relation to different forms of memory politics, the chapter reflects on how remembrance of the Second World War has been shaped in Sweden and the process by which traumatic memories of refugees have been integrated or not into the country’s cultural memory. It is only at the turn of the millennium, with the increasing impact of global Holocaust remembrance, that these collections of documents, after a long and intricate journey, have attracted renewed scholarly and public interest and begun to inform the Swedish cultural memory of the war.

  • Ateismen har blivit en flykt från en gudlös värld
  • 2018
  • In: Tidskriften Respons. - Stockholm. - 2001-2292. ; :6, s. 25-27
  • Review (other academic/artistic)abstract
