  • After the first year of Rencon
  • 2003
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the 2003 International Computer Music Conference, ICMC 2003. - : International Computer Music Association.
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Rencon, CONtest for performance RENdering systems, started in 2002. Since we have not had evaluation methods for such systems whose output is interpreted subjectively, furthermore performance rendering is a research of not only computer science but also musicology, psychology, and cognition, Rencon has roles of (1) pursuing evaluation methods for systems whose output includes subjective issues, and (2) providing a forum for researchers of several fields related to performance rendering. Rencon was executed twice in 2002 as workshops with technical presentations and musical contests. In this paper, we describe how two Rencon workshops were, the analysis of the results of musical contests, the practical problems we faced especially from the point of a common meeting ground. Although not big yet, we conclude Rencon made a good start to diffuse the research of performance rendering and draw attentions of people to computer music.

  • Rencon 2004: Turing Test for Musical Expression
  • 2004
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the 4th international conference on New interfaces for musical expression. - Hamamatsu, Shizuoka, Japan : National University of Singapore. - 4990209907 ; , s. 120-123
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Rencon is an annual international event that started in 2002.It has roles of (1) pursuing evaluation methods for systemswhose output includes subjective issues, and (2) providinga forum for researches of several fields related to musicalexpression. In the past, Rencon was held as a workshop associated with a musical contest that provided a forum forpresenting and discussing the latest research in automaticperformance rendering. This year we introduce new evaluation methods of performance expression to Rencon: a TuringTest and a Gnirut Test, which is a reverse Turing Test, forperformance expression. We have opened a section of thecontests to any instruments and genre of music, includingsynthesized human voices.
