  • The complex pathophysiology of allergic rhinitis : Scientific rationale for the development of an alternative treatment option
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Allergy, Asthma and Clinical Immunology. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1710-1492. ; 15, s. 24-
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Allergic rhinitis (AR) poses a global health problem and can be challenging to treat. Many of the current symptomatic treatments for AR have been available for decades, yet there has been little improvement in patient quality of life or symptom burden over the years. In this review, we ask why this might be and explore the pathophysiological gaps that exist within the various AR treatment classes. We focus on the benefits and drawbacks of different treatment options and delivery routes for AR treatments and consider how, given what is known about AR pathophysiology and symptomatology, patients may be offered more effective treatment options for rapid, effective, and sustained AR control. In particular, we consider how a new AR preparation, MP-AzeFlu (Dymista ® , Meda, Sweden), comprising a formulation of an intranasal antihistamine (azelastine hydrochloride), an intranasal corticosteroid (fluticasone propionate), and excipients delivered in a single spray, may offer benefits over and above single and multiple AR therapy options. We review the evidence in support of this treatment across the spectrum of AR disease. The concept of AR control is also reviewed within the context of new European Union and Contre les Maladies Chroniques pour un VIeillissement Actif-Allergic Rhinitis and its Impact on Asthma initiatives.

  • Från sonett till drömtext : Gunnar Björlings väg mot modernismen
  • 2004
  • Doktorsavhandling (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • The subject of this dissertation is the Finland-Swedish author Gunnar Björling (1887-1960) and his journey towards Modernism. The principle thesis of this dissertation, the idea that Björling’s distinctive language cannot be understood without an underlying modernistic current, is outlined in Chapter I. It also discusses the idea that Modernism cannot be reduced to a matter of style, but encompasses particular values, ideological stances and practical matters, such as the forming of alliances, writing manifestos and publishing journals.Chapter II examines how and why Björling came to be regarded as a modernist. A strongly contributing factor was Björling’s language, which from the very first violated prevailing ideas on acceptable forms of expression. The fact that he published his first book through the modernist publishing firm Daimon, and contributed to its journal Ultra, further confirmed his modernistic placing.Chapter III focuses on Björling’s unpublished juvenilia from the 1910’s. The young Björling wrote traditional rhyming verse but was also influenced by writings of a more symbolistic and modern character. The chapter concludes with a study of bizarrerierna, Björling’s dream notes, originally written during the 1910’s but first published in 1928. With their bold enjambments and highly compressed form, these notes came to influence the continued development of his lyrical imagery.Chapter IV deals with his debut Vilande dag (Resting day) (1922) and its symbolistically coloured language problematic. Björling struggled to find a language that would convey his experience of the limitlessness of being, a language striving to transcend words, leaving space for silence. This struggle for the right words continues in the later Korset och löftet (The cross and the promise) (1925) and Chapter V demonstrates how this is connected with the quest for God. In the wake of German Expressionism and Dadaism, Björling adopts a more disjointed syntax and a bolder and more dissonant lyrical imagery. There also occurs a thematic expansion, giving greater prominence to the daily life of the metropolis, a life transformed by media. In accordance with modernistic patterns, Björling chose to end his book with a theoretical epilogue, which is a distinctive collation of life philosophy, anti-clericalism, passionate religiousness, moral-philosophical discussions and aesthetic expositions.

  • Samarbete i gränsland : Om relation och kommunikation i samarbete mellan skola och barnomsorg
  • 2005
  • Doktorsavhandling (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • This thesis is a case study about the forms of appearance and the consequences of relations and communication in collaborative work between school and child-care providers. The empirical data consists mainly of interviews, but include also a number of written documents. The aims of the study are:• First, to review how relations and communication appear in collaborations between school and child-care.• Second, to examine the consequences of relations and these communica-tions for cooperation between different professions in school and child-care.• Third, to review how these relations and communications between child-care and school are influenced by organizational conditions. The theoretical frame of reference has four sections. The first comprises some comprehensive assumptions for the thesis. The second deals with perspectives on relation and communication. The third discusses cooperation as organizing of social processes. The fourth examines, from a neo-institutional standpoint, how organizational conditions influence professional relations and communication in these collaborations.Regarding relations, the analysis shows that there was regular face-to-face-contact between different professional groups but variations in frequency of contact. One contributing cause to the variations was geographical distance. Another cause was the extent to which the groups shared common interests. It also became evident that there were variations in the distribution of power partly caused by systemic, structural, conditions and partly by episodic and temporary aspects. The analysis also shows that communication has four content types. First, work communication, refers to the everyday communication in cooperation. News- and status communication concerns actors, at different levels, informing other actors about their status. Management communication, partly concerned the coordination of areas of responsibility on the management level. It also con-cerned the managers’ direction of the operative level. Value and culture communication, included discussions about the underlying assumptions of different programs.Relations and communication affected those areas of knowledge and those programs that would be a part of the cooperation. If the actors did not agree with one another they had to negotiate to reach an agreement that both parties accepted. Communication also influenced the opportunity to organize cooperation around children’s needs. For example communication influenced flexibility in the cooperation. To make this possible continuous communication was necessary as was the opportunities to create similar knowledge about each other’s competence and how it was manifested in the practical work.Regarding the organizational conditions, institutional rules affected the actors opinions about whom they should cooperate, and therefore communicate, with. In spite of that, the actors on the operative level had a space to act strategically. Therefore the implementation of cooperation, to a great extent, was formed in communication between actors who were involved in the every day work.

  • Data work as an organizing principle in developing AI
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: Research handbook on Artificial Intelligence and decision making in organizations. - : Edward Elgar Publishing. - 9781803926209 - 9781803926216 ; , s. 38-57
  • Bokkapitel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • While data are often depicted as raw, neutral, and mere inputs to algorithms, we build on an emerging stream of research on data work viewing data as ambivalent, performative, and embedded entities, interwoven with organizing. We argue that in the process of developing AI, where epistemic uncertainty prevails as a key organizing challenge, data work serves as an organizing principle providing the logic through which behaviors are adopted, interpretations are made, and the collective efforts of domain experts and AI experts are coordinated. Prior research suggests that active involvement of both AI and domain experts is required for developing AI. Yet, domain experts and AI experts have distinct knowledge and understandings of domain specificities, meanings of data, and AI’s possibilities and limitations. Consequently, in AI initiatives, a key organizing challenge is epistemic uncertainty, i.e., ignorance of pertinent knowledge that is knowable in principle. We build a conceptual model deciphering three key mechanisms through which data work serves as an organizing principle supporting organizations to cope with epistemic uncertainty: cultivating knowledge interlace, triggering data-based effectuation, and facilitating multi-faceted delegations. These three mechanisms emerge when domain experts and AI experts work with and on data to define and shape trajectories of an AI initiative and make decisions about AI. This chapter contributes to the nascent body of research on data work by expounding the performative role of data as a relational entity, by providing a processual view on data’s interweaving with organizing, and by deciphering data work as a collectively accomplishment.

  • Are AI opportunities discovered or created? investigating data resourcing using a no-code AI platform in an educational context
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: AMCIS 2022 Proceedings. - : Association for Information Systems. - 9781958200001
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • With recent advances in artificial intelligence, machine learning has been identified as particularly useful for organizations seeking to create value from data resources. However, this usefulness presupposes the existence of data with sufficient structure and quality to train machine learning models. Thus, in this study, we address the research question: How does data resourcing contribute to enabling AI opportunities? We address this question by investigating an example of data resourcing in a master’s level artificial intelligence (AI) course at Umeå University, Sweden. This is an empirical, case-based educational setting where students engaged in data resourcing using a no-code AI platform. Our results involve provide insights regarding constructs associated with two phases of data resourcing: data work practices, and data interpretation. Collectively, these constructs provide a framework for data resourcing that is the main contribution of this paper, together with insights into the benefits of using no-code AI tools in educational settings. Our framework reveals the nature of data resourcing as a creative process where iterative algorithmic mediation, data sensemaking and contextualization enable AI opportunities.

  • Citizen-centricity in digital government research : a literature review and integrative framework
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: Information Polity. - : IOS Press. - 1570-1255 .- 1875-8754. ; 29:1, s. 55-72
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Citizen-centricity is a common concept in digital government research and policy. However, there is little clarity regarding the concept in previous literature. To address this shortcoming, and build theoretical foundations for addressing both citizen-centricity and associated phenomena, we have examined how citizen-centricity is characterized in digital government research. This study is based on literature review of 66 journal articles. A combination of narrative analysis and ideal-type methodology identified themes concerning four modes of government, designated traditionalist, service-dominant, participatory, and transformative. Further analysis of associated types and research streams provides an overview of the theoretical understandings of citizen-centricity and methodological approaches applied to explore it in the literature. The findings contribute to contemporary theory on citizens in digital government by outlining an integrative framework of citizen-centricity. The paper concludes with proposals for further research, including efforts to enhance conceptual clarity and develop more dynamic theories.

  • Democratizing artificial intelligence : how no-code AI can leverage machine learning operations
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Business Horizons. - : Elsevier. - 0007-6813 .- 1873-6068. ; 66:6, s. 777-788
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Organizations are increasingly seeking to generate value and insights from their data by integrating advances in artificial intelligence (AI) such as machine learning (ML) systems into their operations. However, there are several managerial challenges associated with ML operations (MLOps). In this article we outline three key challenges and discuss how an emerging form of AI platforms – ‘no-code AI’ – may help organizations to address and overcome them. We outline how no-code AI can leverage MLOps by closing the gap between business and technology experts, enabling faster iterations between problems and solutions, and aiding infrastructure management. After outlining important remaining challenges associated with no-code AI and MLOps we propose three managerial recommendations. By doing so, we provide insights into an important novel, emerging phenomenon in AI software and set the stage for further research in the area.
