  • Food security in the High North : contemporary challenges across the circumpolar region
  • 2021
  • Samlingsverk (redaktörskap) (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This book explores the challenges facing food security, sustainability, sover-eignty, and supply chains in the Arctic, with a specific focus on Indigenous Peoples.Offering multidisciplinary insights with a particular focus on populations in the European High North region, the book highlights the importance of accessible and sustainable traditional foods for the dietary needs of local and Indigenous Peoples. It focuses on foods and natural products that are unique to this region and considers how they play a significant role towards food security and sovereignty. The book captures the tremendous com-plexity facing populations here as they strive to maintain sustainable food systems – both subsistent and commercial – and regain sovereignty over tra-ditional food production policies. A range of issues are explored from food contamination risks, due to increasing human activities in the region, such as mining, to changing livelihoods and gender roles in the maintenance of traditional food security and sovereignty. The book also considers process-ing methods that combine indigenous and traditional knowledge to convert the traditional foods, which are harvested or hunted, into local foods. This book offers a broader understanding of food security and sovereignty, and will be of interest to academics, scholars, and policy makers working in food studies, geography and environmental studies, agricultural studies, so-ciology, anthropology, political science, health studies, and biology.

  • Fecal carriage of multi-drug resistant and extended spectrum beta-lactamases producing E. coli in household pigeons, Bangladesh
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: Veterinary Microbiology. - : Elsevier BV. - 0378-1135 .- 1873-2542. ; 168:1, s. 221-224
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Antibiotic resistance and ESBL constitute a risk to human and animal health. Birds residing close to humans could mirror the spectrum of human associated antibiotic resistance. Household pigeons were screened in Bangladesh to shed light on human associated, as well as, environmental antibiotic resistance. Escherichia coil from pigeons (n = 150) were tested against 11 antibiotics. 89% E. coil isolates were resistant to one or more critically important human antibiotics like ampicillin, cefadroxil, mecillinam, ciprofloxacin, gentamicin and tigecycline. No carbapenamase-producers were detected and the lower ESBL prevalence (5%) in pigeons. ESBL-producing E. coil isolates had bla(CTX-M_15) genes. Pigeons shared some bacterial clones and had bird associated sequence types like E. coil ST1408. Fecal carriage of bacteria resistance of critically important human antibiotics, together with examples of shared genotypes among pigeons, indicate the human-birds and bird to bird transmissions are important in the epidemiology of antibiotic resistance.

  • Introduction : conceptualizing food (in)security in the High North
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Food Security in the High North. - Abingdon : Routledge. - 9781138370067 - 9781003057758 ; , s. 1-12
  • Bokkapitel (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book uses various other concepts, such as food resilience and traditional and local knowledge in food practices and in traditional food systems. It defines food resilience as ‘capacity over time of a food system and its units at multiple levels, to provide sufficient, appropriate and accessible food to all, in the face of various and even unforeseen disturbances’. The book analyses issues related to Indigenous Peoples, livelihood practices, and traditional knowledge in the context of food production, consumption, and diversity. It explores the value of stockfish for strengthening the local food system and the role of stockfish in enhancing local food security. The book investigate the potential of Indigenous knowledge-based traditional pasture management and a rotational grazing system. It highlights the food insecurity of reindeer herders after the 1986 Chernobyl nuclear accident.

  • Integration of wireless hand-held devices with the cloud architecture : Security and privacy issues
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: Proc. - Int. Conf. P2P, Parallel, Grid, Cloud Internet Comput., 3PGCIC. - 9780769545318 ; , s. 83-88
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Use of wireless hand held devices like mobile, PDA, laptop etc. is increasing rapidly. Many advanced users want more functionality with these wireless devices to manage their daily schedule. But most of the wireless hand-held devices have limited resource capability for robust functionality. Therefore cloud computing environment could be an alternative solution for these devices to support resource consuming applications. If the wireless hand held device is connected with the cloud, user can use more resource consuming applications and private data (stored in the cloud) from those devices. But privacy and security of the personal information and data make the user concern for using the cloud. The aim of the paper is to identify the security and privacy related risks and threats of the mass users as well as corporate users, if the wireless hand-held devices will be integrated with the cloud.

  • Key Indicators for Data Sharing - In Relation with Digital Services
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: DATA MINING AND BIG DATA, DMBD 2016. - Cham : Springer. - 9783319409733 - 9783319409726 ; , s. 353-363
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Rapid growth of data intensive digital services are creating potential risks of violating consumer centric data privacy. Protection of data privacy is becoming one of the key challenges for most of the big data business entities. Due to thank of big data, recommendation and personalization are becoming very popular in digital space. However it is hard to find a well-defined boundary which illustrates privacy threat to consumers' in relation with improving already opted-in communication services. In this paper, we initiated identifying key indicators for consumer configured privacy policy in relation with personalized services taking into consideration that "Privacy is a tool for balancing personalization". We survey user attitudes towards privacy and personalization and discovered key indicators for configuring privacy policy by analyzing survey data about privacy concern and data sharing attitude of the consumers. We found that consumers did not want to stop using social media based communication services due to privacy risks. Moreover, consumers have attitude of sharing their data, provided that appropriate personalization features are in place.
