  • Noncollinear optical gating - A method for intra-cavity single attosecond pulse generation?
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Proceedings 2015 European Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics - European Quantum Electronics Conference, CLEO/Europe-EQEC 2015. - 9781467374750
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The process of high-order harmonic generation requires laser intensities around 1014 W/cm2, most easily reached with laser pulses of high energy, thus implicitly limiting the repetition rate of attosecond sources. A route towards multi-MHz attosecond sources relies on HHG inside a passive enhancement cavity [1]. Although successfully demonstrated for attosecond pulse trains, the generation of single attosecond pulses (SAPs) inside a cavity remains an unsolved challenge, mainly limited by dispersion management and out-coupling problems. We recently proposed a new gating concept for SAP generation [2], noncollinear optical gating (NOG) which has the potential to facilitate SAP gating and efficient out-coupling at once. Similar to the recently introduced attosecond lighthouse [3] NOG employs attosecond angular streaking [4] and combines this concept with noncollinear HHG, proposed earlier [5] as out-coupling method for intra cavity HHG.

  • Compression of TW class laser pulses in a planar hollow waveguide for applications in strong-field physics
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: European Physical Journal D. Atomic, Molecular, Optical and Plasma Physics. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1434-6060. ; 68:12
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We demonstrate pulse post-compression of a TW class chirped pulse amplification laser employing a gas-filled planar hollow waveguide. A waveguide throughput of 80% is achieved for 50 mJ input pulse energy. Good focusability is found and after compression with chirped mirrors a pulse duration of sub-15 fs is measured in the beam center. Whereas a total energy efficiency of approximate to 70% should be achievable, our post-compressor currently delivers 20 mJ output pulse energy (approximate to 40% efficiency), mostly limited by apertures of chirped mirrors and vacuum windows. The viability of the planar hollow waveguide compression scheme for applications in strong-field physics is demonstrated by generating high-order harmonics in a pulsed Ar gas cell.

  • Unexpected Sensitivity of Nitrogen Ions Superradiant Emission on Pump Laser Wavelength and Duration
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Physical Review Letters. - 0031-9007. ; 119:20
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Nitrogen molecules in ambient air exposed to an intense near-infrared femtosecond laser pulse give rise to cavity-free superradiant emission at 391.4 and 427.8 nm. An unexpected pulse duration-dependent cyclic variation of the superradiance intensity is observed when the central wavelength of the femtosecond pump laser pulse is finely tuned between 780 and 820 nm, and no signal occurs at the resonant wavelength of 782.8 nm (2ω782.8 nm=ω391.4 nm). On the basis of a semiclassical recollision model, we show that an interference of dipolar moments of excited ions created by electron recollisions explains this behavior.

  • Odilorhabdins, Antibacterial Agents that Cause Miscoding by Binding at a New Ribosomal Site
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Molecular Cell. - : CELL PRESS. - 1097-2765 .- 1097-4164. ; 70:1, s. 83-94
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Growing resistance of pathogenic bacteria and shortage of antibiotic discovery platforms challenge the use of antibiotics in the clinic. This threat calls for exploration of unconventional sources of antibiotics and identification of inhibitors able to eradicate resistant bacteria. Here we describe a different class of antibiotics, odilorhabdins (ODLs), produced by the enzymes of the non-ribosomal peptide synthetase gene cluster of the nematode-symbiotic bacterium Xenorhabdus nematophila. ODLs show activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative pathogens, including carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae, and can eradicate infections in animal models. We demonstrate that the bactericidal ODLs interfere with protein synthesis. Genetic and structural analyses reveal that ODLs bind to the small ribosomal subunit at a site not exploited by current antibiotics. ODLs induce miscoding and promote hungry codon readthrough, amino acid misincorporation, and premature stop codon bypass. We propose that ODLs' miscoding activity reflects their ability to increase the affinity of non-cognate aminoacyl-tRNAs to the ribosome.
