  • Ground-based and additional science support for SMILE
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: Earth and Planetary Physics. - : Science Press. - 2096-3955. ; 8:1, s. 275-298
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The joint European Space Agency and Chinese Academy of Sciences Solar wind Magnetosphere Ionosphere Link Explorer (SMILE) mission will explore global dynamics of the magnetosphere under varying solar wind and interplanetary magnetic field conditions, and simultaneously monitor the auroral response of the Northern Hemisphere ionosphere. Combining these large-scale responses with medium and fine-scale measurements at a variety of cadences by additional ground-based and space-based instruments will enable a much greater scientific impact beyond the original goals of the SMILE mission. Here, we describe current community efforts to prepare for SMILE, and the benefits and context various experiments that have explicitly expressed support for SMILE can offer. A dedicated group of international scientists representing many different experiment types and geographical locations, the Ground-based and Additional Science Working Group, is facilitating these efforts. Preparations include constructing an online SMILE Data Fusion Facility, the discussion of particular or special modes for experiments such as coherent and incoherent scatter radar, and the consideration of particular observing strategies and spacecraft conjunctions. We anticipate growing interest and community engagement with the SMILE mission, and we welcome novel ideas and insights from the solar-terrestrial community.

  • Properties of Tl-2201 thin films
  • 1997
  • Ingår i: Physica. C, Superconductivity. - 0921-4534 .- 1873-2143. ; 282-287:Part 2, s. 1075-1076
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Tl2Ba2CuO6 (Tl-2201) thin films were synthesised on single crystal LaAlO3 and SrTiO3 substrates and on bicrystal LaAlO3 by an ex-situ process. Depending on thallium content and processing conditions, the films were orthorhombic or tetragonal. Tc was in the range 30 – 92 K while Jc reached 4.106A/cm2 at 12 K. By oxygen depletion, Tc was increased by 15 – 20 K for some films.

  • Fabrication and characterization of p-Si/n-ZnO heterostructured junctions
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: MICROELECTRONICS JOURNAL. - : Elsevier BV. - 0026-2692. ; 40:4-5, s. 706-710
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this paper ZnO nanorods and nanodots (with and without a SiO2 buffer layer) were grown on p-Si, forming p-n heterojunctions. The nanorod devices showed no visible electroluminescence (EL) emission but showed rectifying behavior. Covering around 60% of the length of the nanorods with PMMA produced an ideality factor of 3.91 +/- 0.11 together with a reverse saturation current of 6.53 +/- 4.2 x 10(-8) A. Up to two orders of magnitude rectification was observed for the current at bias -3 and 3 V. The nanodot devices showed EL emission under forward bias conditions. It seems that the buffer layer increased both the stability and efficiency of the devices, since the buffer layer device could operate at larger applied voltage and showed EL emission under reverse bias.

  • Prediction of the Standard Deviation of Wind Speed Turbulence
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: JOURNAL OF ENVIRONMENTAL INFORMATICS. - : INT SOC ENVIRON INFORM SCI. - 1726-2135 .- 1684-8799. ; 32:1, s. 1-13
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Turbulent wind speed is a vital component of wind speed, corresponding to the small-scale uncertainty of wind speed. The wind power output and aerodynamic loads are significantly influenced by turbulent wind speed. The present paper concentrates on the study of turbulent wind speed prediction, which is hardly addressed in previous studies and is a novel approach to understand turbulent wind speed in advance. In the present study, turbulent wind speed is measured by turbulence standard deviation. Although turbulent wind speed itself is unpredictable, the correlation analysis proves that the turbulence standard deviation is predictable within a proper time horizon. As a result, the turbulent wind speed can be understood ahead of time by predicting turbulence standard deviation. The 10-min ahead, 30-min ahead and 60-min ahead predictions of turbulence standard deviation are provided by Support Vector Regression and Kernel Ridge Regression. Furthermore, the average wind speed is fused into the forecasting model to improve the prediction accuracy of turbulence standard deviation.

  • First-principles LDA plus U studies of the In-doped ZnO transparent conductive oxide
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: Journal of Applied Physics. - : AIP Publishing. - 0021-8979 .- 1089-7550. ; 104:6
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Electronic energy band structure of In-doped ZnO transparent conducting oxide was investigated by density functional calculations using local density approximation +Hubbard U (LDA+U) scheme. By systematically calculating the formation energies and transition energy levels of In atom and In-related complex in ZnO, it has been shown that the substitutional In atom has a low formation energy and introduces a shallow donor level, which is 38 meV below the conduction-band minimum. Substitutional In atoms contribute significantly delocalized s orbitals in the conduction band states, which are expected to increase the mobility of the material. In p-type ZnO, interstitial In atom acts as a donor and has a low formation energy, making it a compensating center in the case of acceptor doping. Under O-rich growth conditions, however, interstitial In is energetically unfavorable. The modulated band structure of ZnO after In doping shows a total energy band gap widening effect due to a pronounced Burstein-Moss shift and a relatively small exchange-correlation-induced band gap narrowing.
