  • 9-Alkylidene-9H-Fluorene-Containing Polymer for High-Efficiency Polymer Solar Cells
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: Macromolecules. - : American Chemical Society. - 0024-9297 .- 1520-5835. ; 44:19, s. 7617-7624
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A novel donor-acceptor copolymer containing 9-alkylidene-9H-fluorene unit in the main chain, poly[9-(1-hexylheptylidene)-2,7-fluorene-alt-5, 5-(4,7-di-2-thienyl-5,6-dialkoxy-2,1,3-benzothiadiazole)] (PAFDTBT), has been synthesized and evaluated in bulk heterojunction polymer solar cells (BHJ PSCs). The polymer possesses a low band gap of 1.84 eV, a low-lying HOMO energy level (5.32 eV), and excellent solubility in common organic solvents. PSCs based on PAFDTBT and (6,6)-phenyl-C(71)-butyric add methyl ester (PC(71)BM) demonstrate a power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 6.2% with a high fill factor (FF) of 0.70, which indicates that 9-alkylidene-9H-fluorene can be a very useful building block for constructing narrow band gap conjugated polymers for high-efficiency BHJ PSCs.

  • Advancing conjugated polymers into nanometer-scale devices
  • 2006
  • Ingår i: Pure and Applied Chemistry. - : Walter de Gruyter GmbH. - 0033-4545 .- 1365-3075. ; 78:10, s. 1803-1822
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this article, we review the possibility of combining conjugated polymers with nanometer-scale devices (nanodevices), in order to introduce the properties associated with conjugated polymers into such nanodevices. This approach envisages combining the highly topical disciplines of polymer electronics and nanoelectronics to engender a new subdirection of polymer nanoelectronics, which can serve as a tool to probe the behavior of polymer molecules at the nanometer/molecular level, and contribute to clarifying transport mechanisms in conjugated polymers. In this study, we exemplify this combination, using a family of linear and conjugated polymers, poly(p-phenylene-ethynylene)s (PPEs) with thiolacetate-functionalized end groups.

  • Underestimated Interannual Variability of Terrestrial Vegetation Production by Terrestrial Ecosystem Models
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Global Biogeochemical Cycles. - 0886-6236. ; 37:4
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Vegetation gross primary production (GPP) is the largest terrestrial carbon flux and plays an important role in regulating the carbon sink. Current terrestrial ecosystem models (TEMs) are indispensable tools for evaluating and predicting GPP. However, to which degree the TEMs can capture the interannual variability (IAV) of GPP remains unclear. With large data sets of remote sensing, in situ observations, and predictions of TEMs at a global scale, this study found that the current TEMs substantially underestimate the GPP IAV in comparison to observations at global flux towers. Our results also showed the larger underestimations of IAV in GPP at nonforest ecosystem types than forest types, especially in arid and semiarid grassland and shrubland. One cause of the underestimation is that the IAV in GPP predicted by models is strongly dependent on canopy structure, that is, leaf area index (LAI), and the models underestimate the changes of canopy physiology responding to climate change. On the other hand, the simulated interannual variations of LAI are much less than the observed. Our results highlight the importance of improving TEMs by precisely characterizing the contribution of canopy physiological changes on the IAV in GPP and of clarifying the reason for the underestimated IAV in LAI. With these efforts, it may be possible to accurately predict the IAV in GPP and the stability of the global carbon sink in the context of global climate change.

  • Photoelectrical characteristics of a C/CNx multiwalled nanotube
  • 2007
  • Ingår i: Advanced Functional Materials. - : Wiley. - 1616-301X .- 1616-3028. ; 17:15, s. 2842-2846
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A nanotube diode fabricated from a single C/CNx multiwalled nanotube exhibits a large photocurrent and a large photovoltage under illumination. The current-voltage (I-V) characteristics of the diode indicate a clear rectification effect. By comparing the I-V characteristics of C, CNx, and C/CNx nanotube diodes, we show that the rectifying characteristics of the C/CNx diode arises from the molecular junction formed at the C/CNx interface where the C and CNx segments are chemically bonded. External radiation photochernically generates electrons and holes in the C/CNx nanotube, producing a large photocurrent because of the influence of the strong electric field in the vicinity of the C/CNx junction. These unique photoresponsive characteristics of C/CNx, nanotube junction diodes points to potential applications such as photovoltaic devices and photodiodes.

  • beta-Cyclodextrin modified graphitic carbon nitride for the removal of pollutants from aqueous solution : experimental and theoretical calculation study
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Journal of Materials Chemistry A. - : Royal Society of Chemistry. - 2050-7488 .- 2050-7496. ; 4:37, s. 14170-14179
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A novel beta-cyclodextrin modified, multifunctional, layer-by-layer graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4/beta-CD) was successfully synthesized and applied as an effective adsorbent for the removal of methyl orange (MO) and Pb(II) from aqueous solutions under various environmental conditions (e.g., solution pH, solid content, contact time and temperature). The kinetic results indicated that the adsorption was dominated by chemisorption, and the higher adsorption capacity of g-C3N4/beta-CD was attributed to it having more oxygen-containing functional groups than g-C3N4. The Langmuir, Freundlich and Sips models were applied to simulate the adsorption isotherms of MO and Pb(II), and the results demonstrated that the adsorption of MO was attributed to multilayer adsorption, while the coverage adsorption of Pb(II) on the g-C3N4/beta-CD was monolayer adsorption. The thermodynamic parameters showed that the adsorption of both MO and Pb(II) was spontaneous and endothermic. The DFT calculations further evidenced the surface complexation and electrostatic interaction of Pb(II) on the g-C3N4 and g-C3N4/beta-CD, whereas, the interaction of MO with g-C3N4 and g-C3N4/beta-CD was mainly attributed to hydrogen bonds and strong pi-pi interactions. The results demonstrated that g-C3N4/beta-CD is a promising material for the efficient removal of organic and inorganic pollutants in environmental pollution remediation.
