  • The large enriched germanium experiment for neutrinoless double beta decay (LEGEND)
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: AIP Conference Proceedings. - : Author(s). - 1551-7616 .- 0094-243X. ; 1894
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The observation of neutrinoless double-beta decay (0νββ) would show that lepton number is violated, reveal that neu-trinos are Majorana particles, and provide information on neutrino mass. A discovery-capable experiment covering the inverted ordering region, with effective Majorana neutrino masses of 15 - 50 meV, will require a tonne-scale experiment with excellent energy resolution and extremely low backgrounds, at the level of ∼0.1 count /(FWHM·t·yr) in the region of the signal. The current generation 76Ge experiments GERDA and the Majorana Demonstrator, utilizing high purity Germanium detectors with an intrinsic energy resolution of 0.12%, have achieved the lowest backgrounds by over an order of magnitude in the 0νββ signal region of all 0νββ experiments. Building on this success, the LEGEND collaboration has been formed to pursue a tonne-scale 76Ge experiment. The collaboration aims to develop a phased 0νββ experimental program with discovery potential at a half-life approaching or at 1028 years, using existing resources as appropriate to expedite physics results.

  • PCM4EU and PRIME-ROSE : Collaboration for implementation of precision cancer medicine in Europe
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: Acta Oncologica. - 1651-226X .- 1651-226X. ; 63, s. 385-391
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • BACKGROUND: In the two European Union (EU)-funded projects, PCM4EU (Personalized Cancer Medicine for all EU citizens) and PRIME-ROSE (Precision Cancer Medicine Repurposing System Using Pragmatic Clinical Trials), we aim to facilitate implementation of precision cancer medicine (PCM) in Europe by leveraging the experience from ongoing national initiatives that have already been particularly successful. PATIENTS AND METHODS: PCM4EU and PRIME-ROSE gather 17 and 24 partners, respectively, from 19 European countries. The projects are based on a network of Drug Rediscovery Protocol (DRUP)-like clinical trials that are currently ongoing or soon to start in 11 different countries, and with more trials expected to be established soon. The main aims of both the projects are to improve implementation pathways from molecular diagnostics to treatment, and reimbursement of diagnostics and tumour-tailored therapies to provide examples of best practices for PCM in Europe. RESULTS: PCM4EU and PRIME-ROSE were launched in January and July 2023, respectively. Educational materials, including a podcast series, are already available from the PCM4EU website (http://www.pcm4eu.eu). The first reports, including an overview of requirements for the reimbursement systems in participating countries and a guide on patient involvement, are expected to be published in 2024. CONCLUSION: European collaboration can facilitate the implementation of PCM and thereby provide affordable and equitable access to precision diagnostics and matched therapies for more patients. ble from the PCM4EU website (http://www.pcm4eu.eu). • Novel passive polymer waveguides integrated with electro-optically active ferroelectric liquid crystals
  • 2001
  • Ingår i: Optical Engineering. - : SPIE-Intl Soc Optical Eng. - 0091-3286 .- 1560-2303. ; 40:10, s. 2188-2198
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We report the preparation and characterization of novel isotropic polymer slab waveguides made by photochemical crosslinking, and their integration with a ferroelectric liquid crystal in an integrated electro-optic modulator. The refractive index of the passive copolymer material in the device was controlled by the copolymer composition, and good agreement between measured and calculated effective indices for the guided modes of polymer films was obtained. The active ferroelectric liquid crystal exhibited a refractive index change of Deltan approximate to0.10 upon application of an ac voltage of +/- 30 V, giving an electro-optic modulation of the input TE0-mode with a contrast ratio of 11:1 and only a small polarization conversion into TM output light.

  • A Ten Country-Company Study of Sustainability and Product-Market Performance : Influences of Doing Good, Warm Glow, and Price Fairness
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Journal of Macromarketing. - : Sage Publications. - 0276-1467 .- 1552-6534. ; 38:3, s. 242-261
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Countries, companies, and customers are becoming increasingly concerned with sustainability. However, it is unclear how much increased cost, if any, companies are willing to tolerate for sustainability efforts at the rate of potentially lower profits. Plus, what are the customers' sensitivities to the prices of products/services that are developed within the realm of sustainability initiatives (e.g., how much more can the products/services cost and still be viable)? Additionally, with 193 countries of the United Nations ratifying the Sustainable Development Goals, we know that countries are focused on sustainability, but can companies achieve positive sustainability effects on performance above what countries are doing? Consequently, what are the macro-micro dynamics in play for sustainability efforts? In a 10-country study involving 4,051 companies, we examine these macro-micro (country-company) dynamics, company costs, customer costs, and price sensitivities on the effects of sustainability on companies' performance. The results indicate that positive effects on companies' performance can be achieved (1) from the companies' sustainability efforts in all 10 countries studied, (2) even if the costs and/or prices increased by 27 to 72 percent (depending on the dynamic and scenario), and (3) by companies implementing sustainability efforts that are 5 to 30 percent above the efforts of the country. Increased sustainability effects can also be gained from lowering customer and company costs, but no such effects were found when lowering product prices.

  • Radiation curing of hyperbranched polyester resins
  • 2000
  • Ingår i: Journal of Applied Polymer Science. - 0021-8995 .- 1097-4628. ; 75:5, s. 612-618
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A research area that has obtained increasing interest during the last decade concerns improvement of macromolecular properties by changes in the macromolecular architecture. One group of these materials is dendritic polymers, which are highly branched structures exhibiting very different properties compared with linear polymers. One potential application for these polymers is as radiation curable thermoset resins. This article describes a study where the use of an aliphatic hyperbranched polyester as a base for new radiation curable thermoset resins. The hyperbranched polyesters have been characterized with respect to cure rate and final mechanical properties compared with conventional resins. It is shown that hyperbranched polyesters can be used as versatile scaffolds for various radiation curable resin structures.

  • Mechanical surface characterization : A promising procedure to screen organic coatings
  • 2003
  • Ingår i: JCT. - 0361-8773. ; 75:939, s. 19-
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Two ductile coating materials were subjected to a combined indentation and scratch test procedure designed to screen a predetermined pattern of many small sample surfaces in a limited time. The screening of 50 surface spots ordered in a matrix pattern on the surface was carried out in 4.5 hr. The test provides reproducible data in terms of indentaion modulus, elastic recovery, scratch penetration depth, and scratch residual depth, and also offers the possibility of detecting critical mechanical transitions such as rupture. The presented procedure produces sufficient data in a limited time scale to fulfill the requirements for a fast method to screen coating compositions.

  • Radiopurity of a CeBr3 crystal used as scintillation detector
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research, Section A: Accelerators, Spectrometers, Detectors and Associated Equipment. - : Elsevier BV. - 0168-9002. ; 703, s. 158-162
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Cerium bromide (CeBr3) has recently been shown to exhibit several properties making it a suitable material as a scintillation detector in nuclear physics applications. The intrinsic activity of gamma-ray emitting radionuclides in a 38.1 mm x 38.1 mm (diameter x height) crystal of CeBr3 was investigated. The measurements were carried out in the HADES underground laboratory located 225 m underground. Two primordial radionuclides were detected; Ac-227 (and its daughters) with massic activity of 0.30 +/- 0.02 Bq/kg and La-138 with massic activity of 7.4 +/- 1.0 mBq/kg. Two activation products were also detected; Ce-139 and Br-82. Their massic activities (assuming a homogeneous distribution in the crystal) just before taking the CeBr3 crystal underground were 4.3 +/- 0.3 mBq/kg and 18 +/- 4 mBq/kg correspondingly. None of the other common primordial radionuclides (K-49, Ra-226, Ra-228, Th-228, and U-235) were detected and their detection limits were below 2 mBq/kg except for U-238 for which the upper limit was 135 mBq/kg and Pb-210 with an upper limit of 600 mBq/kg.

  • A new reference material for radionuclides in the mussel sample from the Mediterranean Sea (IAEA-437)
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: Journal of Radioanalytical and Nuclear Chemistry. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 0236-5731 .- 1588-2780. ; 283:3, s. 851-859
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A new Reference Material (RM) for radionuclides in mussel (Mytilus galloprovincialis) from the Mediterranean Sea (IAEA-437) is described and the results of the certification process are presented. Four radionuclides (K-40, U-234, U-238, and Pu239+240) have been certified, and information values on massic activities with 95% confidence intervals are given for nine radionuclides (Cs-137, Pb-210(Po-210), Ra-226, Ra-228, Th-228, Th-230, Th-232, U-235, and Am-241). Results for less frequently reported radionuclides (Sr-90, I-129, Pu-238, Pu-239, and Pu-240) are also reported. The RM can be used for quality assurance/quality control of the analysis of radionuclides in mussel samples, for the development and validation of analytical methods and for training purposes. The material is available in 200 g units.
