  • Multimodal dialogue systems : A case study for interactive TV
  • 2003
  • Ingår i: Universal Access Theoretical Perspectives, Practice, and Experience. - Berlin, Heidelberg : Springer Berlin/Heidelberg. - 3540008551 - 9783540008552 - 9783540365723 ; , s. 209-218
  • Bokkapitel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Many studies have already shown the advantages of building multimodal systems. In this case study we have shown the advantages of combining natural language and a graphical interface in the interactive TV domain. In this paper we describe a multimodal dialogue TV program guide system that is a research prototype built for the case study by adding speech interaction to an already existing TV program guide. Study results indicate positive attitudes towards providing two input modes - spoken natural language input and direct manipulation by means of remote control.

  • Multimodal Dialogue Systems for Interactive TV Applications
  • 2002
  • Ingår i: Proceedings. - Piscataway, NJ : IEEE Computer Society. - 0769518346 ; , s. 117-122
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Many studies have shown the advantages of building multimodal systems, but not in the interactive TV application context. This paper reports on a qualitative study of a multimodal program guide for interactive TV. The system was designed by adding speech interaction to an existing TV program guide. Results indicate that spoken natural language input combined with visual output is preferable for TV applications. Furthermore, user feedback requires a clear distinction between the dialogue system's domain result and system status in the visual output. Consequently, we propose an interaction model that consists of three entities: user, domain results, and system feedback. @ IEEE 2002

  • Speech Enhanced Remote Control for Media Terminal
  • 2001
  • Ingår i: Proc. 7th European Conference on Speech Communication and Technology (Eurospeech 2001). - : The International Speech Communication Association (ISCA). ; , s. 2685-2688
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A media terminal box combines digital television and services on the World Wide Web. This device will be available in many homes and the interaction with it occurs via a remote control and a visual presentation. The problem is the navigation difficulties among the huge number of television channels. The aim of this study is to investigate whether spoken commands could solve the navigation problem. In this study two input techniques were tested: remote control and speech input. The results showed that speech input was more effective as steps to complete tasks were less and shortcuts were used more often in the speech condition. However, the subjective data showed that the subjects were more satisfied with the remote control input. In conclusion, we recommend multimodal interaction where of speech input to complement the remote control unit.

  • "The snatcher catcher" - an interactive refrigerator
  • 2002
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the second Nordic conference on Human-computer interaction. ; , s. 209-211
  • Konferensbidrag (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • In order to provoke a debate about the use of new technology, the Snatcher Catcher, an intrusive interactive refrigerator that keeps record of the items in it, was created. In this paper we present the fridge, and how we used it in a provocative installation. The results showed that the audience was provoked, and that few people wanted to have the fridge in their surroundings.

  • Quartz Crystal Microbalance Platform for SARS-CoV-2 Immuno-Diagnostics
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Molecular Sciences. - : MDPI. - 1661-6596 .- 1422-0067. ; 24:23
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Rapid and accurate serological analysis of SARS-CoV-2 antibodies is important for assessing immune protection from vaccination or infection of individuals and for projecting virus spread within a population. The quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) is a label-free flow-based sensor platform that offers an opportunity to detect the binding of a fluid-phase ligand to an immobilized target molecule in real time. A QCM-based assay was developed for the detection of SARS-CoV-2 antibody binding and evaluated for assay reproducibility. The assay was cross-compared to the Roche electrochemiluminescence assay (ECLIA) Elecsys (R) Anti-SARS-CoV-2 serology test kit and YHLO's chemiluminescence immunoassay (CLIA). The day-to-day reproducibility of the assay had a correlation of r(2) = 0.99, p < 0.001. The assay linearity was r(2) = 0.96, p < 0.001, for dilution in both serum and buffer. In the cross-comparison analysis of 119 human serum samples, 59 were positive in the Roche, 52 in the YHLO, and 48 in the QCM immunoassay. Despite differences in the detection method and antigen used for antibody capture, there was good coherence between the assays, 80-100% for positive and 96-100% for negative test results. In summation, the QCM-based SARS-CoV-2 IgG immunoassay showed high reproducibility and linearity, along with good coherence with the ELISA-based assays. Still, factors including antibody titer and antigen-binding affinity may differentially affect the various assays' responses.

  • Enhancement of Polyacrylic Acid/Silicon Carbide Nanocomposites’ Optical Properties for Potential Application in Renewable Energy
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: Journal of Composites Science. - : MDPI. - 2504-477X. ; 8:4
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Composites made from polymers and nanoparticles have promise to be effective solar collectors and thermal energy storage devices due to benefits including improved thermal characteristics and increased structural stability. This study intends to fabricate polyacrylic acid/silicon carbide (PAA−SiC) nanocomposites and examine the optical properties for use in solar collectors and thermal energy storage (TES) fields. The optical properties of PAA−SiC nanocomposites are investigated within the wavelength between 340 and 840 nm. The findings indicate that an increase in SiC concentration in the PAA aqueous solution to 50 g/L at a wavelength of λ = 400 nm causes an increase in the absorption by 50.2% besides a reduction in transmission by 6%. Furthermore, the energy band gaps were reduced from 3.25 eV to 2.95 eV to allow for the transition, and subsequently reduced from 3.15 eV to 2.9 eV to allow for forbidden transition as a result of the increasing SiC concentration from 12.5 g/L to 50 g/L. The optical factors of energy absorption and optical conductivity were also enhanced with a rising SiC concentration from 12.5 to 50 g/L. Specifically, an improvement of 61% in the melting time of PAA−SiC−H2O nanofluids is concluded. Accordingly, it can be said that the PAA−SiC−H2O nanofluids are suitable for renewable energy and TES systems.
