  • Strategic Pricing : The Relationship Between Strategy, Price Models and Product Cost
  • 2020. - 1
  • Ingår i: Strategic Management Control. - : Springer. - 9783030386405 ; , s. 67-85
  • Bokkapitel (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Strategic management control differs from traditional management control in several important respects. First, it supports both strategy formulation and strategy implementation. Second, it is to a large extent based on non-financial information. Third, it deals with both the long and short term and supports not only tactical, but also strategic and operational decision-making. Fourth, and perhaps most importantly, strategic management control is designed for, and adapted to, each organisation’s unique strategies. In this context, the book emphasises the importance of dialogues. The authors argue that it is unwise to assume that decisions taken at the top of the organisation will automatically be executed and obeyed throughout the organisation. Instead, they highlight the importance of dialogue and collaboration, both between hierarchical levels within the organisation and between actors in the network. Such communication is essential to making management control processes both strategic and successful. The book follows a clear structure, from the design of strategies to the everyday evaluation and discussion of performance and results. Though primarily intended for professionals working in strategy and management control at organisations, it will also benefit students and academics interested in strategy and management control.

  • Conceptualising innovative price models : the RITE framework
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Baltic Journal of Management. - : EMERALD GROUP PUBLISHING LTD. - 1746-5265 .- 1746-5273. ; 14:4, s. 540-558
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to lay a current, research-based foundation for investigation of the concept of innovative price models and its connection to business models.Design/methodology/approachThe design is composed of a structured literature review of articles on price models published in 22 journals during 42 years. This then serves as a base for a subsequent conceptual discussion about the foundation of innovative price models.FindingsThe literature review yields only very few results that are loosely scattered across various areas and mostly without any kind of deeper exploration of the concept of price models. The paper therefore goes on to conceptually explore some fundamental conditions that might influence or even determine price models. The final outcome of this exploration is the relation, intention, technology and environment (RITE) framework that is a meta-model for conceptualising innovative price models.Research limitations/implicationsThe literature review could include additional journals and areas, and empirical testing of the RITE framework as yet has been limited.Practical implicationsThe RITE framework can be used by practitioners as a tool for investigating the potential and usefulness of developing the capability to handle innovative price models.Originality/valueThe RITE framework provides fundamental conditions, which influence, or even determine, how innovative price models are developed and applied.

  • Strategic and innovative pricing : price models for a digital economy
  • 2020
  • Bok (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • This book provides a concrete guide on how to execute strategic pricing to excel in an increasingly dynamic and digitised business environment, while developing and deepening relations with contract partners. The secret lies in crafting innovative price models that reward joint value creation in accordance with the business model, rather than engaging in confrontative zero-sum pricing reasoning.Strategic and Innovative Pricing: Price Models for a Digital Economy provides hands-on tools that are applied on three interconnected levels of analysis. It illustrates how to explore the business ecology to understand its dynamics and how digitisation enables it to prosper and demonstrates how to construct a viable business model that enables an organisation to navigate in its vibrant ecology. Finally, and most importantly, it shows how to use innovative price models to realize and monetise the business model and its value offering, making the organisation and its partnerships sustainable.Models pertaining to the three levels of analyses are applied in rich case studies and examples from different countries, and the book includes guidelines on how to use them. Special attention is paid to digitisation as an underlying theme, making this book of interest to researchers, academics, and students in the fields of strategic management and technology & innovation management.

  • Bibliometric Study of Academic Interaction: IT, Organization, and Change
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: AMCIS 2009 Proceedings. - : AMCIS (Americas Conference on Information Systems). - 9781615675814
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper explores the degree and nature of the research interaction between the academic fields of Information Technology, Organization, and Organizational Change. This is done so as to see if, and how, the highly digitized modern business world is reflected in related research. The paper analyses 9.669 articles published in 1995-2006 that are derived from major journals within each field. Then the articles are reviewed through the use of the bibliometric methods: frequency, cross-reference, co-citation, shared references, and network analyses. The findings detect a dearth of consistent research interaction between the fields of Information Technology, Organization, and Organizational Change. This fact is critiqued on the basis of previous practical and academic calls for interactional research. The paper provides important insights about the degree and nature of the research interaction and, in addition, recommendations and guidelines for future cross-fertilization between the academic fields are provided.

  • Differentiation of IT-strategy in health care: beyond IT alignment
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: Uppsala Public Management seminar.
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Information systems are playing a key role in the public management of health care as they have the potential to improve quality, efficiency, and patient care. Researchers as well as practitioners recurrently contend that a health care organization’s IS strategy should be aligned with the organization’s objectives and strategy, a notion commonly known as IT-alignment. This paper argues that such studies often views IT as one single and monolithic technological artefact and disregards that there are many types of IT depending of context, purpose and functionality. This perspective was also evident in the empirical data in our study. Therefore, this paper tries to develop a conceptualisation of different kinds of IT in health care that can used as a “sensitizing device” during corporate discussions of IT-investments. The findings are based on a longitudinal study of six health care organizations in the Stockholm metropolitan area. The empirical data collection was conducted during the years 2005-2010 through interviews, focus groups, observations, and archival data. The theoretical contribution is that this paper provides a new perspective beyond the IT alignment perspective in health care. The empirical contribution is constituted by showing how hospitals can re-think their approach to their IT-strategy and in doing so improve its service quality, efficiency, and patient care.

  • Changing Behavior Towards Sustainable Practices Using Information Technology
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: Journal of Environmental Management. - : Elsevier BV. - 0301-4797 .- 1095-8630. ; 139, s. 59-68
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This article addresses the question of how to change individuals’ behavior towards more sustainable practices using Information Technology (IT). By following a multidisciplinary and socio-technical perspective, this inquiry is answered by applying a new framework—The Commonality Framework for IT-enabled Change—on a case study of sustainable behavioral change. The framework is grounded in practice theory and is used to analyze the implementation of an IT-system aimed at changing citizens’ behavior towards more sustainable transport logistics and procurement in Uppsala, Sweden. The article applies case study research design and the empirical data consists of surveys, in-depth and semi-structured interviews, observations and archival documents. The results show how the change towards sustainable practices is an entanglement of both social and technical-structural elements across time. In this process, structures such as IT are the enablers, and the actors and their social activities are the tipping-point factors that ultimately determine the success of changing individuals’ behavior towards a more sustainable direction. This article provides a more balanced view of how both actor and structure related properties interact during the on-going work with change towards greater sustainability practices than earlier research has offered. More specifically, the article offers both a lower-level theory and a method from which we can analyze change processes where technology is seen in its context, and where both technology and the human actor is brought forth to center stage.

  • Effective Organizational Change: Leading through Sensemaking
  • 2015
  • Bok (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Effective Organizational Change uncovers what it is that leaders actually do when they lead change through sensemaking. By doing so the book provides the frontline of sensemaking research for researchers and graduate students, at the same time as it informs leaders of what they can do to excel in their change processes. The book combines theoretical overview, models and conceptual discussions with rich, in-depth and "thick" examples and case from the field. Most importantly, Effective Organizational Change extends earlier work by developing the concept of Landscaping and guidelines that explains how leaders drive sensemaking processes in practice.
