    • Huvudsyftet med arbetet var att främja ökad återvinning av textilt spill utan ökad spridning av giftiga ämnen eller minskad kvalitet. Arbetet har till stor del utförts genom fallstudier men även genom myndighetsdialoger, underlag till myndigheter och företag samt initiering av nya relevanta forskningsstudier.Målet i arbetspaket 3 Textil var att ta fram ett kvalificerat underlag för ökad användning av giftfri återvunnen textilråvara genom att studera och beskriva kunskapsläget samt ta fram ny kunskap och driva en aktiv dialog med relevanta aktörer inom fyra fokusområden:1. Spårbarhet2. Minskning av spill3. Teknikutveckling för återvinning av textil4. Återvinning på den svenska marknadenMålet har väl uppfyllts och projektet har bidragit till ökad kunskap om möjligheter för ökad användning av giftfri återvunnen textilråvara. Framförallt har fallstudier genererat detaljerad förståelse för vilka specifika utmaningar som är kopplade till olika textila material och fiberslag.Arbetet har utförts i tät samverkan och dialog med parter från textilbranchen: Boob, Filippa K, Gudrun Sjöden, Fjällräven och WRSD, Swegmarks, Ragnsells, Re:Newcell, samt några av deras leverantörer och flera medlemmar i Kemikaliegruppen på Swerea IVF.Projektet visar att materialspecifik kunskap och teknik är det viktigaste steget mot ökad återvinning av industriella restprodukter. Detta är således en förutsättning för att den sekundära råvaran ska ha ett tillräckligt värde och ändamålsenlig kvalitet. Dessa specifika aspekter kommer att studeras vidare inom efterföljand

  • Circulating Endothelial Progenitor Cells in Periodontitis

    • Background: Several biologically plausible mechanisms have been proposed to mediate the association between periodontitis and atherosclerotic vascular disease (AVD), including adverse effects on vascular endothelial function. Circulating endothelial progenitor cells (cEPCs) are known to contribute to vascular repair, but limited data are available regarding the relationship between cEPC levels and periodontitis. The aims of this cross-sectional study are to investigate the levels of hemangioblastic and monocytic cEPCs in patients with periodontitis and periodontally healthy controls and to associate cEPC levels with the extent and severity of periodontitis. Methods: A total of 112 individuals (56 patients with periodontitis and 56 periodontally healthy controls, aged 26 to 65 years; mean age: 43 years) were enrolled. All participants underwent a full-mouth periodontal examination and provided a blood sample. Hemangioblastic cEPCs were assessed using flow cytometry, and monocytic cEPCs were identified using immunohistochemistry in cultured peripheral blood mononuclear cells. cEPC levels were analyzed in the entire sample, as well as in a subset of 50 pairs of patients with periodontitis/periodontally healthy controls, matched with respect to age, sex, and menstrual cycle. Results: Levels of hemangioblastic cEPCs were approximately 2.3-fold higher in patients with periodontitis than periodontally healthy controls, after adjustments for age, sex, physical activity, systolic blood pressure, and body mass index (P = 0.001). A non-significant trend for higher levels of monocytic cEPCs in periodontitis was also observed. The levels of hemangioblastic cEPCs were positively associated with the extent of bleeding on probing, probing depth, and clinical attachment loss. Hemangioblastic and monocytic cEPC levels were not correlated (Spearman correlation coefficient 0.03, P = 0.77), suggesting that they represent independent populations of progenitor cells. Conclusion: These findings further support the notion that oral infections have extraoral effects and document that periodontitis is associated with a mobilization of EPCs from the bone marrow, apparently in response to systemic inflammation and endothelial injury.

  • Symptoms related to snoring and sleep apnoea in subjects with chronic bronchitis : report from the Obstructive Lung Disease in Northern Sweden study

    • To assess the relationship between chronic bronchitis and obstructive sleep apnoea, a postal survey was performed. A postal questionnaire was sent to 523 subjects identified as having chronic bronchitis or long-standing cough and sputum production in the Obstructive Lung Disease in Northern Sweden Study I (OLIN I). In 1986-88, all 6610 adults born in 1919-20, 1934-35 and 1949-50 living in representative areas in Northern Sweden were screened for airway diseases according to different methods. A random sample of healthy adults identified in the screening were chosen as references (n = 625). Subjects were asked about a variety of airway symptoms, smoking habits and symptoms related to obstructive sleep apnoea syndrome (OSAS). In the bronchitic group, 20% did not report bronchitic symptoms in the present study, and 26% of the formerly healthy reference group reported at least one bronchitic symptom in the present study. Snoring, apnoea and liability to 'nod off' during activity were much more common in the bronchitic group in both men and women, and most common in men, as expected. Snoring was reported by 29% of the men in the bronchitic group and by 14% in the reference group. In women, the corresponding figures were 14 and 8%, respectively, and for apnoea, the figures were 25 vs. 11% in men and 6 vs. 4% in women. The prevalence of OSAS symptoms was similar in subjects with attacks of breathlessness, long-standing cough, sputum production and recurrent wheezing. Bronchitic symptoms may influence quality of sleep and contribute to daytime tiredness, but this does not fully explain the high prevalence of snoring and apnoea reported by subjects in this cohort. This study indicates a positive correlation between chronic bronchitis and OSAS, but sleep studies are required to confirm this
