  • Anisotropy Parameters for Two-Color Photoionization Phases in Randomly Oriented Molecules : Theory and Experiment in Methane and Deuteromethane
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: Journal of Physical Chemistry A. - 1089-5639 .- 1520-5215. ; 128:9, s. 1685-1697
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We present combined theoretical and experimental work investigating the angle-resolved phases of the photoionization process driven by a two-color field consisting of an attosecond pulse train and an infrared pulse in an ensemble of randomly oriented molecules. We derive a general form for the two-color photoelectron (and time-delay) angular distribution valid also in the case of chiral molecules and when relative polarizations of the photons contributing to the attosecond photoelectron interferometer differ. We show a comparison between the experimental data and theoretical predictions in an ensemble of methane and deuteromethane molecules, discussing the effect of nuclear dynamics on the photoionization phases. Finally, we demonstrate that the oscillating component and the phase of the two-color signal can be fitted by using complex asymmetry parameters, in perfect analogy to the atomic case.

  • Influence of nuclear dynamics on molecular attosecond photoelectron interferometry
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Science Advances. - 2375-2548. ; 9:35
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In extreme ultraviolet spectroscopy, the photoionization process occurring in a molecule due to the absorption of a single photon can trigger an ultrafast nuclear motion in the cation. Taking advantage of attosecond photoelectron interferometry, where the absorption of the extreme ultraviolet photon is accompanied by the exchange of an additional infrared quantum of light, one can investigate the influence of nuclear dynamics by monitoring the characteristics of the photoelectron spectra generated by the two-color field. Here, we show that attosecond photoelectron interferometry is sensitive to the nuclear response by measuring the two-color photoionization spectra in a mixture of methane (CH4) and deuteromethane (CD4). The effect of the different nuclear evolution in the two isotopologues manifests itself in the modification of the amplitude and contrast of the oscillations of the photoelectron peaks. Our work indicates that nuclear dynamics can affect the coherence properties of the electronic wave packet emitted by photoionization on a time scale as short as a few femtoseconds.

  • Adsorption of CO on the Fe3O4(001) Surface
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Journal of Physical Chemistry B. - : American Chemical Society (ACS). - 1520-6106 .- 1520-5207. ; 122:2, s. 721-729
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The interaction of CO with the Fe3O4(001)-(√2 × √2)R45° surface was studied using temperature-programmed desorption (TPD), scanning tunneling microscopy (STM), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), the latter both under ultrahigh vacuum (UHV) conditions and in CO pressures up to 1 mbar. In general, the CO-Fe3O4 interaction is found to be weak. The strongest adsorption occurs at surface defects, leading to small TPD peaks at 115, 130, and 190 K. Desorption from the regular surface occurs in two distinct regimes. For coverages up to two CO molecules per (√2 × √2)R45° unit cell, the desorption maximum shows a large shift with increasing coverage, from initially 105 to 70 K. For coverages between 2 and 4 molecules per (√2 × √2)R45° unit cell, a much sharper desorption feature emerges at ∼65 K. Thermodynamic analysis of the TPD data suggests a phase transition from a dilute 2D gas into an ordered overlayer with CO molecules bound to surface Fe3+ sites. XPS data acquired at 45 K in UHV are consistent with physisorption. Some carbon-containing species are observed in the near-ambient-pressure XPS experiments at room temperature but are attributed to contamination and/or reaction with CO with water from the residual gas. No evidence was found for surface reduction or carburization by CO molecules.

  • Atomically sharp domain walls in an antiferromagnet
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Science Advances. - : American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). - 2375-2548. ; 8:13
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The interest in understanding scaling limits of magnetic textures such as domain walls spans the entire field of magnetism from its physical fundamentals to applications in information technologies. Here, we explore antiferromagnetic CuMnAs in which imaging by x-ray photoemission reveals the presence of magnetic textures down to nanoscale, reaching the detection limit of this established microscopy in antiferromagnets. We achieve atomic resolution by using differential phase-contrast imaging within aberration-corrected scanning transmission electron microscopy. We identify abrupt domain walls in the antiferromagnetic film corresponding to the Néel order reversal between two neighboring atomic planes. Our work stimulates research of magnetic textures at the ultimate atomic scale and sheds light on electrical and ultrafast optical antiferromagnetic devices with magnetic field–insensitive neuromorphic functionalities.

    • The paper presents load-bearing capacity calculation methods for timber elements connections by angle brackets with a rib. As connectors, annular ring nails were used. Paper brings direct comparison of results from full-scale tests, analytical calculations and numerical simulations of connections under the external load using two different versions of brackets.

  • Ion Cloud Expansion after Hyper-velocity Dust Impacts Detected by the Magnetospheric Multiscale Mission Electric Probes in the Dipole Configuration
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Astrophysical Journal. - : American Astronomical Society. - 0004-637X .- 1538-4357. ; 921:2
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Dust impact detection by electric field instruments is a well-established technique. On the other hand, not all aspects of signal generation by dust impacts are completely understood. We present a study of events related to dust impacts on the spacecraft body detected by electric field probes operating simultaneously in the monopole (probe-to-spacecraft potential measurement) and dipole (probe-to-probe potential measurement) configurations by the Earth-orbiting Magnetospheric Multiscale mission spacecraft. This unique measurement allows us to investigate connections between monopole and dipole data. Our analysis shows that the signal detected by the electric field instrument in a dipole configuration is generated by an ion cloud expanding along the electric probes. In this case, expanding ions affect not only the potential of the spacecraft body but also one or more electric probes at the end of antenna booms. Electric probes located far from the spacecraft body can be influenced by an ion cloud only when the spacecraft is located in tenuous ambient plasma inside of the Earth's magnetosphere. Derived velocities of the expanding ions on the order of tens of kilometers per second are in the range of values measured experimentally in the laboratory.
