  • Nondestructive Assay Data Integration with the SKB-50 Assemblies - FY16 Update
  • 2016
  • Rapport (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • A project to research the application of non-destructive assay (NDA) techniques for spent fuel assemblies is underway at the Central Interim Storage Facility for Spent Nuclear Fuel (for which the Swedish acronym is Clab) in Oskarshamn, Sweden. The research goals of this project contain both safeguards and non-safeguards interests. These nondestructive assay (NDA) technologies are designed to strengthen the technical toolkit of safeguard inspectors and others to determine the following technical goals more accurately; Verify initial enrichment, burnup, and cooling time of facility declaration for spent fuel assemblies; Detect replaced or missing pins from a given spent fuel assembly to confirm its integrity; and Estimate plutonium mass and related plutonium and uranium fissile mass parameters in spent fuel assemblies. Estimate heat content, and measure reactivity (multiplication).

  • The UNITE database for molecular identification and taxonomic communication of fungi and other eukaryotes: sequences, taxa and classifications reconsidered
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: Nucleic Acids Research. - 0305-1048 .- 1362-4962. ; 52:D1, s. D791-D797
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • UNITE (https://unite.ut.ee) is a web-based database and sequence management environment for molecular identification of eukaryotes. It targets the nuclear ribosomal internal transcribed spacer (ITS) region and offers nearly 10 million such sequences for reference. These are clustered into similar to 2.4M species hypotheses (SHs), each assigned a unique digital object identifier (DOI) to promote unambiguous referencing across studies. UNITE users have contributed over 600 000 third-party sequence annotations, which are shared with a range of databases and other community resources. Recent improvements facilitate the detection of cross-kingdom biological associations and the integration of undescribed groups of organisms into everyday biological pursuits. Serving as a digital twin for eukaryotic biodiversity and communities worldwide, the latest release of UNITE offers improved avenues for biodiversity discovery, precise taxonomic communication and integration of biological knowledge across platforms. • Publicitet för medborgsmannavett : Det nationellt svenska i Stockholmstidningar 1810-1831
  • 2005
  • Doktorsavhandling (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • The aim of this thesis is to use social debate in political newspapers to study how Swedish national identity was constructed in the period between 1810 and 1831. Never before has the Swedish political press and national identity in the early nineteenth century been analysed using such an approach. 1809 saw the beginning of a turbulent period for Sweden. A disastrous war against Russia led to the loss of Finland, King Gustav IV Adolf was deposed in a bloodless coup, and a new form of government and press freedom were introduced. It became pressing to construct a national identity suited to Sweden’s new political, social, and economic circumstances. The newspapers’ consideration of social issues and national identity has been studied in the light of specific themes: publicity; the constitution and structure of the state; commerce and industry; the moral standing of nation and population alike; education and upbringing; historical narratives; and Sweden’s attitudes towards the lost province of Finland and the new union with Norway. Two theoretical perspectives inform the thesis. In the first the newspapers’ message is related to slow change, as Swedish society was transformed from a corporate-based system to a newer, less certain system marked by individualism and liberation from a corporate based society. Linked to this societal perspective, the second perspective identifies the newspapers’ content with the two principal strands in national identity in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries: the ethno-cultural; and the civic. An important conclusion is that the more radical the message, the more emphasis was placed on a civic national identity, by means of focusing on the constitutional, civic, and public good. Civic national identity stemmed principally from the emerging middle class, who at the time constituted only a few per cent of the Swedish population. By contrast, the conservative political message centred principally on the advocacy of a ethno-cultural national identity that stressed ethnic origin, common language and history, religion, and customs as the determinants in national identity.

  • Vehicle control using preview information
  • 2006
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The background and the aim of the project,“Vechicle control by using preview information - ’Look Ahead’ ” , are discussed. The project is raisedto explore the possibilities of reduction of fuel consumption and improvements in comfort and safety for heavy vehicles. In particular research will focus on improvements that can be made, in actual and future control systems, with knowledge of the road ahead. This paper describes the project and reports on initial findings as well as related research.

  • Improved road grade estimation using sensor fusion
  • 2006
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A method for estimation of the road grade basedon standard mounted sensors in a heavy duty vehicle ispresented. The method combines information from a barometerand a GPS with velocity and torque measurements of conventionaltype. The sensor information is adaptively integratedusing extended Kalman filtering. This provides a systematicmethod for dealing with varying uncertainty in the sensors. The method can handle periods of missing or unreliable datafrom one or several sensors, e.g., occasions when the satellitecoverage is low or when the brakes are applied.

  • Automated speed selection for heavy duty vehicles
  • 2007
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Many different advanced driver assistance systems are currently being developed to improve road safety and vehicle performance in many areas. The aim of this project has been to create a cruise control system which takes the legal speed limit and road geometry en route into account when determining the appropriate vehicle speed. The system uses a digital map to gain information about curvature and speed limits, and a vehicle model to calculate appropriate control actions. When lowering the speed is required the system coasts with no fueling, thus saving fuel and brake wear.

  • Road grade estimation results using sensor and data fusion
  • 2007
  • Ingår i: 14th World Congress on Intelligent Transport Systems, ITS 2007. - 9781617387777 ; , s. 5206-5217
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Advanced driver assistance systems for heavy duty vehicles, such as lookahead cruise and gearshift controllers, rely on high quality map data. Current digital maps do not offer the required level of road grade information. This contribution presents an algorithm for on-board road grade estimation based on fusion of GPS and vehicle sensor data with measurements from previous runs over the same road segment. An incremental update scheme is utilized to ensure that data storage requirements are independent of the number of measurement runs. Results of the implemented system based on six traversals of a known road with three different vehicles are presented.

  • Outcome of orthodontic treatment in subjects with periodontal disease. Part III: a CBCT study of external apical root resorption.
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: European journal of orthodontics. - : Oxford University Press (OUP). - 1460-2210 .- 0141-5387. ; 41:6, s. 575-582
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • No evidence is present on the risk for external apical root resorption (EARR) during orthodontic treatment (OT) of adult patients with periodontal disease. To examine EARR after OT in subjects with periodontal disease and to analyse how intrusion and change in inclination of the most proclined maxillary incisors influence EARR.The study included 50 patients with periodontal disease. Sub-gingival debridement by ultrasonic instrumentation supplemented with hand instruments was performed by experienced dental hygienist after baseline examination for all patients. For the control group, final periodontal treatment (PT) was performed before orthodontic tooth movement. For the test group patients, final PT was performed after levelling and alignment phases were finished, before the active space closure with elastic chain and/or inter-arch elastic traction for sagittal correction was started. OT was performed with a straight-wire appliance. Micro-implants or implants were used for posterior anchorage. Cone beam computed tomography examinations were performed before and after OT. EARR of all single-rooted teeth were measured. EARR of the most proclined maxillary incisor was related to intrusion and change in inclination angle.EARR after OT was observed in median 80.7 per cent (interquartile range 22.02) of single-rooted teeth [mean 1.2 (standard deviation 0.44) mm]. In 82.3 per cent of teeth, EARR was 2 mm or less. Severe EARR was found in 8 per cent of patients and five maxillary incisors (less than 1 per cent of all teeth). The amount of intrusion and change in inclination angle of the most proclined maxillary central incisor influenced the extent of EARR. Mean EARR was significantly higher when OT lasted more than 18 months (P = 0.02).OT in conjunction with PT in periodontal patients resulted in EARR in 81 per cent of all single-rooted teeth. Intrusion and change in inclination angle of the most proclined maxillary central incisor influenced the extent of EARR, as did longer OT.
