  • Deductive reconstruction of MLT* for multi-level modeling
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: MODELS '20. - New York : Association for Computing Machinery (ACM). - 9781450381352
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In the last two decades, about a dozen proposals were made to extend object-oriented modeling by multiple abstraction levels. One group of proposals designates explicit levels to objects and classes. The second group uses the powertype pattern to implicitly establish levels. From this group, we consider two proposals, DeepTelos and MLT*. Both have been defined via axioms and both give a central role to the powertype pattern. In this paper, we reconstruct MLT* with the deductive axiomatization style used for DeepTelos. The resulting specification is executed in a deductive database to check MLT* multi-level models for errors and complete them with derived facts that do not have to be explicitly asserted by modelers. This leverages the rich rules of MLT* with the deductive approach underlying DeepTelos. The effort also allows us to clearly establish the relation between DeepTelos and MLT*, in an attempt to clarify the relations between approaches in this research domain. As a byproduct, we supply MLT-Telos as a fully operational deductive implementation of MLT* to the research community.

  • Field Types for Deep Characterization in Multi-Level Modeling
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Proceedings 2023 ACM/IEEE International Conference on Model Driven Engineering Languages and Systems Companion MODELS-C 2023, Västerås, Sweden 1-6 October 2023. - : IEEE. - 9798350324990 - 9798350324983 ; , s. 639-648
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Traditional two-level modeling approaches distinguish between class- and object features. Using UML parlance, classes have attributes which require their instances to have  object slots. Multi-Level Modeling unifies classes and objects to "clabjects", and it has been suggested that attributes and slots can and should be unified to "fields" in a similar way. The notion of deep instantiation for clabjects creates the possibility of "deep fields", i.e., fields that expand on the roles of pure attributes or pure slots. In this paper, we discuss several variants of such a "deep field" notion, pointing out the semantic differences and the various resulting trade-offs. We hope our observations will help clarify the range of options for supporting clabject fields in multi-level modeling and thus aid future MLM development.

  • Cyber-threat analysis for Cyber-Physical Systems : Technical report for Package 4, Activity 3 of ELVIRA project
  • 2018
  • Rapport (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Smart grid employs ICT infrastructure and network connectivity to optimize efficiency and deliver new functionalities. This evolu- tion is associated with an increased risk for cybersecurity threats that may hamper smart grid operations. Power utility providers need tools for assessing risk of prevailing cyberthreats over ICT infrastructures. The need for frameworks to guide the develop- ment of these tools is essential to define and reveal vulnerability analysis indicators. We propose a data-driven approach for design- ing testbeds to evaluate the vulnerability of cyberphysical systems against cyberthreats. The proposed framework uses data reported from multiple components of cyberphysical system architecture layers, including physical, control, and cyber layers. At the phys- ical layer, we consider component inventory and related physi- cal flows. At the control level, we consider control data, such as SCADA data flows in industrial and critical infrastructure control systems. Finally, at the cyber layer level, we consider existing secu- rity and monitoring data from cyber-incident event management tools, which are increasingly embedded into the control fabrics of cyberphysical systems.

  • Internet of Things Approach to Cloud-Based Smart Car Parking
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: The 7th International Conference on Emerging Ubiquitous Systems and Pervasive Networks (EUSPN 2016)/The 6th International Conference on Current and Future Trends of Information and Communication Technologies in Healthcare (ICTH-2016)/Affiliated Workshops. - : Elsevier. ; , s. 193-198
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Concerns for parking are becoming imminent to best support the urban core. These persistent parking problems could be turned into new opportunities, brought by current trends in meeting the globally connected continuum. This paper reveals a work-in- progress to capitalize on private land properties for parking, in order to relieve stress on public agencies, create new sources of revenue, and enlist new entities in the intermediary market. These intermediaries, labelled as Parking Service Providers (or PSPs) play a broker role through advertising parking lots on a shared cloud platform. To streamline these business collaborations and related processes, physical parking lots are augmented with Internet connectivity allowing cloud-provided applications to congregate these lots into a larger inventory. The Internet of Things (IoT) paradigm expands the scope of cloud-based intelligent car parking services in smart cities, with novel applications that better regulate car-parking related traffic. This paper presents a work-in-progress agenda that contributes to new business solutions and state-of-the-art research impacts. We reveal a multi-layered system of PSP-business model through interdisciplinary research blocks where original results are expected to be made at each layer.

  • An Interoperability Classification Framework for Method Chunk Repositories
  • 2007
  • Ingår i: Advances in Information Systems Development: New Methods and Practice for the Networked Society. - Boston, MA : Springer. - 9780387708010 - 9780387708027 ; , s. 153-166
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The competitiveness and efficiency of an enterprise is dependent on its ability to interact with other enterprises and organisations. In this context interoperability is defined as the ability of business processes as well as enterprise software and applications to interact. Interoperability remains a problem and there are numerous issues to be resolved in different situations. We propose method engineering as an approach to organise interoperability knowledge in a method chunk repository. In order to organise the knowledge repository we need an interoperability classification framework associated to it. In this paper we propose a generic architecture for a method chunk repository, elaborate on a classification framework and associate it to some existing bodies of knowledge. We also show how the proposed framework can be applied in a working example.

  • Conceptual Modeling : 41st International Conference, ER 2022, Hyderabad, India, October 17–20, 2022, Proceedings
  • 2022
  • Proceedings (redaktörskap) (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We are pleased to welcome you to the proceedings of the 41st edition of the International Conference on Conceptual Modeling (ER 2022), which took place during October 17–20, 2022. Originally, the conference was planned to take place in the beautiful city of Hyderabad, India, but due to the uncertain COVID-19 situation it was finally held virtually. The ER conference series aims to bring together researchers and practitioners building foundations of conceptual modeling and/or applying conceptual modeling in a wide range of software engineering fields. Conceptual modeling has never been more important in this age of uncertainty. As individuals, organizations, and nations face new and unexpected challenges, software and data must be developed that can cope with and help address this new uncertainty in an ever-faster changing world. Conceptual modeling can be used to describe, understand, and cope with increasing levels of uncertainty in our world. Conference topics of interest include the theories of concepts and ontologies underlying conceptual modeling, modeling languages, methods and tools for developing and communicating conceptual models, and techniques for transforming conceptual models into effective implementations.

  • Simulation Data Management in a Product Lifecycle Management Context
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Advances in Manufacturing Technology XXXI. - Amsterdam : IOS Press. - 9781614997924 - 9781614997917 - 9781614994398 ; , s. 476-481
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Reuse of virtual engineering models and simulations improves engineering efficiency. Reuse requires preserving the information provenance. This paper suggests a framework based on the 7W data provenance model to be part of simulation data management implemented in product lifecycle management systems. The resulting provenance framework is based on a case study in which a product was re-engineered using finite element analysis.
