  • Homeodomain leucine zipper class I genes in Arabidopsis. Expression patterns and phylogenetic relationships
  • 2005
  • Ingår i: Plant Physiology. - : American Society of Plant Biologists. - 0032-0889 .- 1532-2548. ; 139:1, s. 509-518
  • Tidskriftsartikel (populärvet., debatt m.m.)abstract
    • Members of the homeodomain leucine zipper (HDZip) family of transcription factors are present in a wide range of plants, from mosses to higher plants, but not in other eukaryotes. The HDZip genes act in developmental processes, including vascular tissue and trichome development, and several of them have been suggested to be involved in the mediation of external signals to regulate plant growth. The Arabidopsis ( Arabidopsis thaliana) genome contains 47 HDZip genes, which, based on sequence criteria, have been grouped into four different classes: HDZip I to IV. In this article, we present an overview of the class I HDZip genes in Arabidopsis. We describe their expression patterns, transcriptional regulation properties, duplication history, and phylogeny. The phylogeny of HDZip class I genes is supported by data on the duplication history of the genes, as well as the intron/exon patterning of the HDZip-encoding motifs. The HDZip class I genes were found to be widely expressed and partly to have overlapping expression patterns at the organ level. Further, abscisic acid or water deficit treatments and different light conditions affected the transcript levels of a majority of the HDZip I genes. Within the gene family, our data show examples of closely related HDZip genes with similarities in the function of the gene product, but a divergence in expression pattern. In addition, six HDZip class I proteins tested were found to be activators of gene expression. In conclusion, several HDZip I genes appear to regulate similar cellular processes, although in different organs or tissues and in response to different environmental signals.

  • The information gap between design engineering and materials supply system design
  • 2003
  • Ingår i: Paper presented at The 17th International Conference on Production Research ICPR-17, Blacksburg, Virginia, 2003..
  • Konferensbidrag (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • This paper focuses on the design of materials supply systems in product development projects. In order to design the materials supply system in parallel with the product, product data have to be made available to the materials supply system designers. The aim of this paper is to discuss the information quality of the product data needed and to indicate how the information quality can be increased. Empirical data have been gathered through case studies conducted within the Manufacturing Industry. The empirical data show many imperfections in the information quality. In order to increase the information quality, the possibilities given by PDM-systems must be utilised. It is also essential that the materials supply system designers are able to claim what product data they need and in what form they need them. In addition, the current status of the product data must be given, i.e. information about how much the data may change. Keywords: Materials supply systems design; Product development project; Concurrent engineering; Information quality; Product data; Product data management system.

  • Digitala textkompetenser och undervisning. En metatolkande syntes av forskningsstudier om texter, information och multimodalitet i skolan
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Trettonde nationella konferensen i svenska med didaktisk inriktning: Bildning, utbildning, fortbildning, Linköping, 22-23 november 2018, s. 270-286. - Linköping : Linköpings universitet. - 1651-9132. - 9789179298449
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract

  • Satisfaction with Nurse-led Follow-up in Prostate Cancer Patients-A Nationwide Population-based Study
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: European Urology Open Science. - : Elsevier. - 2666-1691 .- 2666-1683. ; 38, s. 25-31
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background: Satisfaction with nurse-led follow-up among men with prostate can-cer is high. However, it is unclear whether all men are satisfied or whether there are men who would benefit from being followed by a urologist or a nurse. Objective: To investigate the follow-up distribution between urologists and nurses, and whether the high self-reported satisfaction with nurse-led follow-up is inde-pendent of other factors such as age or comorbidity.Design, setting, and participants: All Swedish men, <= 70 yr of age, with a low-risk prostate cancer diagnosis in 2008, answered a questionnaire 7 yr after diagnosis. The extensive questionnaire included a question on satisfaction with care, answered on a seven-point scale. Participants were divided based on whether they were followed up by a nurse, a urologist, or both.Outcome measurements and statistical analysis: Factors that could influence the level of satisfaction were identified as age, edu-cation, comorbidity, treatment, disease progression, urinary bother, level of infor-mation, and participation in treatment decision. Likelihood ratio tests from ordinal regression were used to test the null hypothesis of similar satisfaction between groups. Results and limitations: Out of 1288 men, 1137 (88%) answered both the question on who performed the follow-up and the question regarding satisfaction. In all, 350 men reported that they were followed up by nurses (31%), 598 (52%) by urologists, and 189 (17%) by both. No differences in satisfaction where seen between the groups. Approximately 50% were satisfied completely, regardless of who performed the follow-up. Results were not affected by age, educational level, comorbidity, treatment, disease progression, urinary bother, information, or participation in treatment decision. Limitations include the nonrandomized, retrospective design and a potential recall bias. Conclusions: Satisfaction with nurse-led follow-up is high, regardless of factors such as age, level of education, comorbidity, and treatment.Patient summary: Men with prostate cancer can be offered nurse-led follow-up on a regular basis and still maintain their satisfaction with health care.

  • Smartphone Teledermoscopy Referrals: A Novel Process for Improved Triage of Skin Cancer Patients.
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: Acta dermato-venereologica. - : Medical Journals Sweden AB. - 1651-2057 .- 0001-5555. ; 95:2, s. 186-190
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this open, controlled, multicentre and prospective observational study, smartphone teledermoscopy referrals were sent from 20 primary healthcare centres to 2 dermatology departments for triage of skin lesions of concern using a smartphone application and a compatible digital dermoscope. The outcome for 816 patients referred via smartphone teledermoscopy was compared with 746 patients referred via the traditional paper-based system. When surgical treatment was required, the waiting time was significantly shorter using teledermoscopy for patients with melanoma, melanoma in situ, squamous cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma in situ and basal cell carcinoma. Triage decisions were also more reliable with teledermoscopy and over 40% of the teledermoscopy patients could potentially have avoided face-to-face visits. Only 4 teledermoscopy referrals (0.4%) had to be excluded due to poor image quality. Smartphone teledermoscopy referrals allow for faster and more efficient management of patients with skin cancer as compared to traditional paper referrals.

  • Population-based study of long-term functional outcomes after prostate cancer treatment
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: BJU International. - : John Wiley & Sons. - 1464-4096 .- 1464-410X. ; 117:6B, s. E36-E45
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • OBJECTIVE: To evaluate long-term urinary, sexual and bowel functional outcomes after prostate cancer treatment at a median follow-up of 12 years (IQR 11-13).PATIENTS AND METHODS: In this nationwide, population-based study, we identified from the National Prostate Cancer Register, Sweden, 6,003 men diagnosed with localized prostate cancer (clinical local stage T1-2, any Gleason score, prostate specific antigen < 20 ng/mL, NX or N0, MX or M0) between 1997 and 2002 who were ≤70 years at diagnosis. 1,000 prostate cancer-free controls were selected, matched for age and county of residence. Functional outcomes were evaluated with a validated self-reported questionnaire.RESULTS: Responses were obtained from 3,937/6,003 cases (66%) and 459/1,000 (46%) controls. Twelve years post diagnosis, at a median age of 75 years, the proportion of cases with adverse symptoms was 87% for erectile dysfunction or sexually inactive, 20% for urinary incontinence and 14% for bowel disturbances. The corresponding proportions for controls were 62%, 6% and 7%, respectively. Men with prostate cancer, except those on surveillance, had an increased risk of erectile dysfunction, compared to control men. Radical prostatectomy was associated with increased risk of urinary incontinence (odds ratio; OR 2.29 [95% CI 1.83-2.86] and radiotherapy increased the risk of bowel dysfunction (OR 2.46 [95% CI 1.73-3.49]) compared to control men. Multi-modal treatment, in particular including androgen deprivation therapy (ADT), was associated with the highest risk of adverse effects; for instance radical prostatectomy followed by radiotherapy and ADT was associated with an OR of 3.74 [95 CI 1.76-7.95] for erectile dysfunction and OR 3.22 [95% CI 1.93-5.37] for urinary incontinence.CONCLUSION: The proportion of men who suffer long-term impact on functional outcomes after prostate cancer treatment was substantial.

  • The history of settlement and agrarian land use in a boreal forestin Värmland, Sweden, new evidence from pollen analysis
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Vegetation History and Archaeobotany. - : Springer. - 0939-6314 .- 1617-6278. ; , s. 1-13
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Shielings are the historically known form of transhumance in Scandinavia, where livestock were moved from the farmsteadto sites in the outlands for summer grazing. Pollen analysis has provided a valuable insight into the history of shielings. Thispaper presents a vegetation reconstruction and archaeological survey from the shieling Kårebolssätern in northern Värmland, western Sweden, a renovated shieling that is still operating today. The first evidence of human activities in the area nearKårebolssätern are Hordeum- and Cannabis-type pollen grains occurring from ca. 100 bc. Further signs of human impactare charcoal and sporadic occurrences of apophyte pollen from ca. ad 250 and pollen indicating opening of the canopy ca.ad 570, probably a result of modification of the forest for grazing. A decrease in land use is seen between ad 1000 and 1250,possibly in response to a shift in emphasis towards large scale commodity production in the outlands. Emphasis on bloomeryiron production and pitfall hunting may have caused a shift from agrarian shieling activity. The clearest changes in the pollenassemblage indicating grazing and cultivation occur from the mid-thirteenth century, coinciding with wetter climate at thebeginning of the Little Ice Age. The earliest occurrences of anthropochores in the record predate those of other shieling sitesin Sweden. The pollen analysis reveals evidence of land use that predates the results of the archaeological survey. The studyhighlights how pollen analysis can reveal vegetation changes where early archaeological remains are obscure.
