  • Customer Service process IT-enabled support Fit or misfit? : a real world case
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: Asproth, V. (ed), Proceedings of 31th Information Systems Research Seminar in Scandinavia. - Sundsvall : Mittuniversitetet. - 9789186073121
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper is a description of a real world case which focuses on a method to define the major gaps between functional requirements and existing support in a traditional ERP system. To identify and define the major gaps the method is using short interviews, existing documentation and graphic process diagrams. The report covers the process Customer Contact – Order Acknowledgement for a global chemicals manufacturer, Perstorp. The group in focus for this study is Customer Service. The results of this case were presented to Perstorp’s Customer Service as well as IT management as background material to assess improvement possibilities for both processes, IT support and for a new ERP strategy. Many other businesses are in similar situations. The aim in publishing this research paper is that these findings can be of practical use to other businesses as well as be an empirical foundation for other papers and possibly further research.

  • Boundary dialogues in co-creation of ICT-innovations
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: IRIS 35, Proceedings of the 35th Information Systems Research Seminar in Scandinavia: Designing the Interactive Society, 2012.
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper is based on a user-centric innovation project, Free2Ride, which is seen as an example of community interaction that overcomes boundaries. The Free2Ride projects goal was to develop a piece of ICT safety equipment consisting of a sender (on the horse) and a receiver (application in a smartphone) to be used by equestrian club members during their everyday riding activities. We will answer the research question of what the characteristics of a boundary dialogue in user-centric innovation activities are. The aim of the paper is to propose a model describing the characteristics of boundary dialogue in user-centric innovation that involve different communities of practices such as ICT developers, users and researchers. An important element of that model is the mental wandering, inwards and outwards, by core members in a community. We discuss the temporal as well as the symbolic nature of the mental wandering during the boundary dialogue in user-centric innovation activities. We applied a combination of research approaches consisting of action research and engaged scholarship approach. The theoretical framework for analyzing our findings is communities of practices with a specific interest in boundary spanning and learning dialogues.

  • Exploring brokering situations in an innovation boundary context
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: Selected Papers of the Information Systems Research Seminar in Scandinavia. - Trondheim : Tapir Akademisk Forlag. ; , s. 15-
  • Bokkapitel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper is based on studies of a living lab process, which is an open, user-centric, innovation approach, where several actors from industry, user groups and academia are involved. We aim to describe and analyze the dynamics in an innovation boundary context based on a living lab process. An action-oriented research approach was applied and the empirical results are from The Find Project (TFP), with the aim of customizing an ICT product based on the needs of a user group. The findings are analyzed from a community of practice perspective where the three different communities i) researchers from Halmstad Living Lab (HLL), ii) ICT developers (ICTD), and iii) next of kin’s to demented elderly persons (NOKD) represented the units of analysis. The analysis identified several boundary situations that played a vital role for the innovation process. The contribution of our research to innovation theory is a process model describing the dynamics in an innovation boundary context with regard to boundary objects-in-use as well as to brokering. The research highlights two different levels of brokering: i) product/service brokering; and ii) process brokering.

  • Facilitating students’ learning outcome of business processes using an ERP
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: 20th Americas conference on information systems (AMCIS 2014). - Atlanta : Association for Information Systems. - 9780692253205 - 9781632667533
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A recurring problem when teaching Business Process Orientation (BPO) is the difficulty students have connecting conceptual knowledge and procedural knowledge. Literature suggests that one solution is to combine different forms of learning, such as hand-on exposure to enterprise resource planning (ERP) together with traditional teaching. This article presents a three step teaching case designed by the authors in order to explore students' learning outcome by using ERP systems together with BPO. The learning outcome of the students was analysed with a focus on connections between conceptual and procedural knowledge. Using Bloom's revised taxonomy we were able to identify connections between students' conceptual and procedural knowledge together with the cognitive processes of understanding, applying and analysing. The result indicates that applying procedural knowledge in an ERP facilitates the students' ability to understand, analyse and evaluate based on conceptual knowledge such as business process orientation.

  • Cognitive medicine - a new approach in health care science.
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: BMC psychiatry. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1471-244X. ; 18:1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The challenges of today's society call for more knowledge about how to maintain all aspects of cognitive health, such as speed/attention, memory/learning, visuospatial ability, language, executive capacity and social cognition during the life course.Medical advances have improved treatments of numerous diseases, but the cognitive implications have not been sufficiently addressed. Disability induced by cognitive dysfunction is also a major issue in groups of patients not suffering from Alzheimer's disease or related disorders. Recent studies indicate that several negative lifestyle factors can contribute to the development of cognitive impairment, but intervention and prevention strategies have not been implemented. Disability due to cognitive failure among the workforce has become a major challenge. Globally, the changing aging pyramid results in increased prevalence of cognitive disorders, and the diversity of cultures influences the expression, manifestation and consequences of cognitive dysfunction.Major tasks in the field of cognitive medicine are basic neuroscience research to uncover diverse disease mechanisms, determinations of the prevalence of cognitive dysfunction, health-economical evaluations, and intervention studies. Raising awareness for cognitive medicine as a clinical topic would also highlight the importance of specialized health care units for an integrative approach to the treatment of cognitive dysfunctions.

  • Innovation in SME : A Case of Firm-Supportive Research
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: IRIS 32. - Trondheim : Tapir Akademisk Forlag. - 9788251925310 ; , s. 187-201
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper describes a case of collaboration between academia and business firms in supporting innovation processes. The research developed into a firm-supportive model called the CILO method, named after the CILO project (communication in learning organisations). We describe the outcomes from applying the CILO method in relation to one of the partner companies and discuss the methodological implications in relation to established research models. We propose the notion of firmsupportive research as a concept to consider in research aiming at developing business firms.

  • An evaluation of business process model techniques, using Moody’s quality criterion for a good diagram
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: BIR 2012: Emerging Topics in Business Informatics Research 2012. - Aachen : Rheinisch-Westfaelische Technische Hochschule Aachen, Lehrstuhl Informatik V. ; , s. 54-64
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Complex processes have become more common and include, for example, knowledge workers ie people who work with more complex and problematic tasks. Our interest is to better understand how a problematic and complex situation in an organization should be model. Four major process oriented modeling techniques has been analyzed using Moody’s quality criterion for what makes a good model. The findings indicate that there are only one candidate, BPMN, that meets some of Moody’s quality criterion, but there are also weaknesses in BPMN, such as for the criterions; expressiveness and emphasis.

  • Digital Design and Learning Students Reflections on Learning-by-Doing
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: EDULEARN18. - Valenica : International Association for Technology, Education and Development. - 9788409027095 ; , s. 6494-6503
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The research in this article has learning-by-doing during digital design as a foundation. The goal of digital design is to develop digital applications [1], such as apps on smartphones or web-applications. This article presents a teaching case, designed by the authors, in order to explore students' reflections on learning. The teaching case is called Bicycle Workshop (BW), where the general idea is that the students carry through a digital design project. At the end of the BW project, every student writes a reflection on what they have learned in BW. The research has been guided by the research question: How can students' reflections on learning in digital design support our understanding of learning-bydoing in higher education? The presented research complements earlier research on digital design and learning. The overall research approach in this article is inspired by interpretive and qualitative research. We have applied Myers framework for qualitative research where the underlying philosophy is interpretive. Presented in the article is a list of five findings relating to students reflections on learning. The research also contributes with an exemplification of how a synthesis of Blooms revised taxonomy, locus of control and self-efficacy have been applied in order to understand digital design and learning.

  • Operationalizing theory : Moving from insight to action in a SME
  • 2007
  • Ingår i: ICEIS 2007. - Setubal : INSTICC Press. - 9789728865900 - 9728865902 ; , s. 591-598
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper presents a method for operationalizing theory. The method has its basis in the empirical findings arising from collaboration between the researchers and a research partner, Flower Systems Ltd. The research partner is a software company characterized as a SME. The presented method is exemplified with theories from learning organizations, usability, and visualization - which are all connected to the problem articulated by our partner. The method is an iterative process characterized by a systemic and holistic long- term view that incorporates feedback. The method takes as its point of departure the problematic area described by Flower Systems ltd; the researchers both intervene and interpret in this problematic area, so the method is both described and verified.. The paper combines the case study and action research methods in what is sometimes referred to as a "hybrid" method, the action case method. The view of innovation presented in this paper is that innovation entails supporting change processes in order to create purposeful and focused change.. The underlying research question has been: How usable is our method for operationalizing theory in solving the problem of adapting to changes in an SME?
