The Kinetic Energy of PAH Dication and Trication Dissociation Determined by Recoil-Frame Covariance Map Imaging

- We investigated the dissociation of dications and trications of three polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), fluorene, phenanthrene, and pyrene. PAHs are a family of molecules ubiquitous in space and involved in much of the chemistry of the interstellar medium. In our experiments, ions are formed by interaction with 30.3 nm extreme ultraviolet (XUV) photons, and their velocity map images are recorded using a PImMS2 multi-mass imaging sensor. Application of recoil-frame covariance analysis allows the total kinetic energy release (TKER) associated with multiple fragmentation channels to be determined to high precision, ranging 1.94-2.60 eV and 2.95-5.29 eV for the dications and trications, respectively. Experimental measurements are supported by Born-Oppenheimer molecular dynamics (BOMD) simulations.

The impact of telephone versus e-mail therapist guidance on treatment outcomes, therapeutic alliance and treatment engagement in Internet-delivered CBT for depression : a randomised pilot trial

- Background: Internet-administered cognitive behavioural therapy (iCBT) is an effective treatment of depression, yet much remains to be learned about the specific mechanisms influencing symptom reduction. Although previous research has consistently shown that therapist-guided iCBT is more effective than unguided iCBT, it is unknown whether the medium used for therapist-client communication has an impact on results.Methods: Thirty-eight subjects with major depression were recruited from the waiting list of another iCBT study and randomised to a guided iCBT program with therapist guidance either by telephone calls (n = 19) or e-mail correspondence (n = 19). Outcome measures were self-rated measures of depression, anxiety and quality of life.Results: At post-treatment, both groups showed significant and large symptom reductions yet did not differ from each other. Neither was there any between-group difference in client-rated therapeutic alliance or treatment engagement. Symptom reductions were maintained at a three-month follow-up.Conclusion: Therapist guidance by telephone does not appear to differ from therapist guidance by e-mail in iCBT for depression, although further research featuring larger samples is necessary to draw more definite conclusions.

Physical function and self-efficacy-Important aspects of health-related quality of life in individuals with hip osteoarthritis

- Introduction: Osteoarthritis (OA) is the most common form of arthritis and the most common chronic joint disease in individuals over the age of 65 years. The condition is often associated with significant pain, stiffness, fatigue, and has a strong impact on physical function, mobility and quality of life. Objectives: The aim of the present study was to investigate the associations between health-related quality of life (HRQL), physical function and self-efficacy (the sense of being able to perform specific tasks), in individuals with X-ray-verified hip OA. The aim was also to determine factors explaining good perceived HRQL. Participants: Eighty-nine individuals with X-ray-verified hip OA in the age group 40-75 years participated in this study. The study sample predominantly consisted of females, n = 61 (69%), and the mean age was 62.5 years, range 39-76. Main outcome measures: For assessment of HRQL, the Medical Outcomes Study 36-Item Short Form Health Survey (SF-36), which is divided into the Physical Component Scale (PCS) and the Mental Component Scale (MCS), was used. Physical function was measured with one self-recorded instrument, the Hip Osteoarthritis Outcomes Score (HOOS Swedish version L.K 1.1), and two instruments using observation-the Body Awareness Scale-Movement Quality (BAS-MQ) and the Six Minute Walk Test (6MWT). Self-efficacy was evaluated using the Arthritis Self-Efficacy Scale (ASES). Results: The data indicated that HRQL (SF-36 PCS) had a significant correlation with both observed physical function and self-reported physical function. SF-36 PCS correlated significantly to all five subscales in HOOS, two of three subscales in BAS-MQ, 6MWT and all three subscales in ASES. Three subscales in HOOS, one subscale in ASES and the 6MWT together explained 58% (R2) of the variance in SF-36 PCS. Conclusion: The results of the current study indicated that good physical ability and good self-efficacy are important for HRQL in subjects with hip OA. This knowledge ought to influence future rehabilitation strategies. The treatment strategies for individuals with OA ought to be directed not only to the symptoms of the disease, but also to the individual's possibilities of gaining perceived control over the consequences of the disease including the HRQL.

NoBias : Om normer och fördomar i rekrytering och texter i digitaliseringens värld

- Syftet med förstudieprojektet NoBias var att i en normkreativ designprocess utforska intresse av, och affärspotential i, ett digitalt verktyg som kan analysera normer och bias i textbaserad kommunikation. Projektet finansierades av Vinnova och genomfördes under 2019 av Åsa Wikberg Nilsson, biträdande professor i Design vid Luleå tekniska universitet, Amanda Malmqvist, affärsutvecklare i organisationen Teknikkvinnor och Tore Johnsson, affärsutvecklare vid Luleå Science Park. Genom litteraturstudier, intervjuer och prototyper har vi sökt en bred förståelse för kunskapsområdet kring inkludering och normer i text. Ansatsen har varit designdriven snarare än lösningsfokuserad, dvs. att öppet utforska problemområdet utan att bekräfta en viss potentiell lösning. Vi har gjort litteraturstudier, kontextundersökningar, benchmarking, konkurrensanalyser, idéarbete och prototypande av olika lösningar. Det innebär i praktiken de första stegen i en utforskande designprocess. Vi har intervjuat 25 personer med olika bakgrund, ex. forskare inom design, genus- och litteraturvetenskap, språkvårdare, HR-personal/rekryterare, samt chefer på små- till multinationella storbolag. Intervjuerna genomfördes för att utforska behov hos olika kategorier av experter, användare och intressenter. Ett utfall är att flera myndigheter på grund av sitt demokratiska ansvar ofta har språkvårdare som arbetar enbart med utformning av inkluderande texter, något vi ej identifierat på privata företag eller inom akademin. Inkludering uppges av flera företag vara mer av en extrauppgift, men inte den huvudsakliga arbetsuppgiften. Individer på företagen uppgav sig dock villiga att arbeta med dessa frågor. Efter en analys av de behov vi identifierat drogs slutsatsen att en digital tjänst är en möjlig lösning. Litteraturstudien fokuserade på bias i text, normkritik samt normkritik i relation till AI, IT-sektorn och digitala tjänster för att utforska utmaningar i dylika lösningar. Förutom behovsanalys har vi även analyserat användbarhet för att lösningen ska upplevas som enkel och intressant att använda.Vi har utforskat olika möjliga tekniska lösningar för hur ett sådant digitalt verktyg kan utformas och hur på vilka olika plattformar det bör finnas. Det har inneburit utforskning av möjligheten att implementera AI i verktyget och att stödja flera språk. Våra utforskningar har även omfattat flexibla affärsmodeller och betallösningar, allt från engångsinloggningar till brandade företagskonton. Vi har även utforskat hur lösningen bör utformas för att kunna underhållas, för att skapa en lösning som har möjlighet att bli hållbar över tid. Vår analys är att ett verktyg behöver vara plattformsoberoende för att kunna nå en så bred användargrupp som möjligt, samt för att ge användarna en flexibilitet och möjlighet att arbeta på olika platser med en snabb bearbetning av texter. Avsikten var att utforska möjligheterna till ett verktyg som kan analysera bias i skrift. Resultatet är en prototyp som bygger på en mjukvarubaserad algoritm som kan matas med text som input antingen via inläsning av filformat som .pdf, eller via direkt inmatning genom något digitalt gränssnitt.
