  • Power allocation policy and performance analysis of secure and reliable communication in cognitive radio networks
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Wireless networks. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1022-0038 .- 1572-8196. ; 25:4, s. 1477-1489
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper investigates the problem of secure and reliable communications for cognitive radio networks. More specifically, we consider a single input multiple output cognitive model where the secondary user (SU) faces an eavesdropping attack while being subject to the normal interference constraint imposed by the primary user (PU). Thus, the SU must have a suitable power allocation policy which does not only satisfy the constraints of the PU but also the security constraints such that it obtains a reasonable performance for the SU, without exposing information to the eavesdropper. We derive four power allocation policies for different scenarios corresponding to whether or not the channel state information of the PU and the eavesdropper are available at the SU. Further, we introduce the concept secure and reliable communication probability (SRCP) as a performance metric to evaluate the considered system, as well as the efficiency of the four power allocation policies. Finally, we present numerical examples to illustrate the power allocation polices, and the impact of these policies on the SRCP of the SU.

  • Full-Duplex Quadrature Spatial Modulation for Multi-Antenna Systems
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: IEEE Network. - : Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc.. - 0890-8044 .- 1558-156X.
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Devices with full-duplex (FD) radios are able to transmit and receive at the same time without requiring orthogonal resources, thereby creating strong self-interference (SI) that results from their own transmissions. Spatial modulation (SM), on the other hand, is a multi-antenna scheme that activates only one transmit antenna to send a data symbol, where the index of the activated antenna depends on the input bits. In this manner, additional data can be conveyed implicitly via the selection of the active transmit antenna. Quadrature spatial modulation (QSM) is a variant of SM, in which the quadrature components of the constellation symbol are separately modulated on the indices of the transmit antenna, leading to an increase in the data rate by implicitly encoding on the spatial domain. This article provides an overview of the research activity on FD-SM and proposes a novel FD-QSM scheme that exploits multiple antennas to achieve antenna cancellation at the receiving side to mitigate the SI signal. Assuming active cancellation mechanisms are also in place, the performance of FD-QSM is studied in the presence of residual SI (RSI). The results reveal that FD-QSM can provide more than 40 percent capacity gain over its half-duplex (HD) counterpart in the presence of strong RSI and roughly the same gain over HD spatial multiplexing (SMX)-based multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) systems with moderate RSI. When applied to the downlink of a cellular network, FD-QSM provides 2dB gain over FD-SM and 5dB gain over FD-MIMO, operating at the same spectral efficiency, while huge gains are observed when FD-QSM is applied to non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA)-aided FD relay network. • Performance analysis of two-way relaying system with RF-EH and multiple antennas
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: IEEE Vehicular Technology Conference. - : Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc.. - 9781509017010
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this paper, we investigate the performance of an amplify-and-forward two-way relay network, in which the relay can harvest the energy from the radio frequency and all channels are subject to Nakagami-m fading. In particular, we assume that the relay has a single antenna, while two sources are equipped with multiple antennas. Also, two sources use the maximal ratio transmission (MRT) and maximal ratio combining (MRC) techniques to process the transmit and received signals. Moreover, the multiple access broadcast (MABC) protocol, which can improve the spectrum efficiency, is employed to coordinate the bidirectional communication of the two-way relay network. Given these settings, we derive analytical expressions for the throughput under the delay-limited and delay-tolerant transmission modes and the outage probability. Finally, Monte-Carlo simulations are provided to verify our calculation.

  • Power allocation for cognitive underlay networks with spectrum band selection
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Physical Communication. - : Elsevier BV. - 1874-4907 .- 1876-3219. ; 21, s. 41-48
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this paper, we study the cooperative communication of a cognitive underlay network by utilizing the diversity of multiple spectrum bands. In particular, we assume that the transmission power of the secondary user (SU) is subject to different joint constraints, such as peak interference power of the multiple primary users (PUs), peak transmission power of the SU, outage tolerate interference, and outage probability threshold. Accordingly, two power allocation schemes are considered on the basis of the minimum interference channel from the SU to the PU and the channel state information of the primary user link. Furthermore, the SU can select one of the three transmission modes following the channel state conditions, namely as cellular, device-to-device, or switching mode, to transmit the signal to the secondary user receiver. Given this setting, two power allocation schemes over a spectrum band selection strategy are derived. In addition, closed-form expressions for the outage probability of three modes are also obtained to evaluate the performance of the secondary network. Most importantly, a closed-form expression for the peak interference power level of the PU, which is considered as one of the most important parameters to control the SU's transmission power, is derived by investigating the relation of two considered power allocation schemes in the practise. Finally, numerical examples show that the outage performance of secondary network in the switching mode outperforms the one of the cellular and device-to-device (D2D) mode for all considered power allocation schemes.
