  • Influence of carbon content on microstructure and mechanical properties of Inconel 718 processed with Powder Bed Fusion – Laser Beam
  • Annan publikation (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Additive manufacturing of alloys belonging to the Inconel family is today a hot research topic. Given that these alloys were developed with casting and forging as the main manufacturing route, the possibilities of adjusting their composition to make them better suited for the additive manufacturing processes should be investigated. In this work we study two different versions of Alloy 718 with different carbon content; one having a normal carbon content and one having a very low carbon content. Test pieces from these alloys were produced using the Powder Bed Fusion – Laser Beam process. TEM and SEM with EDS/EBSD was used to study the resulting microstructures both in the as-built and after heat treatment. Mechanical properties were evaluated for samples printed in different build directions using tensile and impact testing. The achieved materials in the as-built condition were very similar to one another in both the microstructure and the displayed mechanical properties. After heat treatment, differences in the microstructures could be identified as secondary carbides were found to precipitate exclusively in the alloy with a normal carbon content. Additionally, the different carbon contents affected the number of annealing twins that formed in the respective alloys, where more twins formed in the alloy with a low carbon content. This was attributed to the alloy’s lower stacking-fault energy. As annealing twins facilitate the transformation of the anisotropic as-built grain structure, effectively making the materials more isotropic, only the low carbon content alloy showed isotropic material properties after heat treatment.

  • Sound and vibration : effects on infants' heart rate and heart rate variability during neonatal transport
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Acta Paediatrica. - : Wiley-Blackwell. - 0803-5253 .- 1651-2227. ; 101:2, s. 148-154
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Aim: To measure the effect of sound and whole-body vibration on infants' heart rate and heart rate variability during ground and air ambulance transport. Methods: Sixteen infants were transported by air ambulance with ground ambulance transport to and from the airports. Whole-body vibration and sound levels were recorded and heart parameters were obtained by ECG signal. Results: Sound and whole-body vibration levels exceeded the recommended limits. Mean whole-body vibration and sound levels were 0.19m/s(2) and 73dBA, respectively. Higher whole-body vibration was associated with a lower heart rate (p<0.05), and higher sound level was linked to a higher heart rate (p=0.05). The heart rate variability was significantly higher at the end of the transport than at the beginning (p<0.01). Poorer physiologic status was associated with lower heart rate variability (p<0.001) and a lower heart rate (p<0.01). Infants wearing earmuffs had a lower heart rate (p<0.05).Conclusions: Sound and whole-body vibration during neonatal transport exceed recommended levels for adults and sound seem to have a more stressful effect on the infant than vibrations. Infants should wear earmuffs during neonatal transport because of the stress reducing effect.

  • 2005
  • Ingår i: Conference proceedings : ... Annual International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society. IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society. Conference. - 1557-170X. ; 4, s. 3717-9
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Modern wireless communication technologies offer new possibilities for patient monitoring in hospitals, as well as at home or in outdoor environments. In this paper, we present a wireless system for ECG recordings and real-time analysis of heart rate variability (HRV). The system also makes it possible for distance consultation, for example with a specialist in cardiology, with the help of a WEB-solution.

  • Adaptive spatio-temporal filtering of disturbed ECGs: a multi-channel approach to heartbeat detection in smart clothing
  • 2007
  • Ingår i: Medical and Biological Engineering and Computing. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1741-0444 .- 0140-0118. ; 45:6, s. 515-523
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Intermittent disturbances are common in ECG signals recorded with smart clothing: this is mainly because of displacement of the electrodes over the skin. We evaluated a novel adaptive method for spatio-temporal filtering for heartbeat detection in noisy multi-channel ECGs including short signal interruptions in single channels. Using multi-channel database recordings (12-channel ECGs from 10 healthy subjects), the results showed that multi-channel spatio-temporal filtering outperformed regular independent component analysis. We also recorded seven channels of ECG using a T-shirt with textile electrodes. Ten healthy subjects performed different sequences during a 10-min recording: resting, standing, flexing breast muscles, walking and pushups. Using adaptive multi-channel filtering, the sensitivity and precision was above 97% in nine subjects. Adaptive multi-channel spatio-temporal filtering can be used to detect heartbeats in ECGs with high noise levels. One application is heartbeat detection in noisy ECG recordings obtained by integrated textile electrodes in smart clothing.

  • Gastric bypass reduces symptoms and hormonal responses to hypoglycemia
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Diabetes. - : American Diabetes Association. - 0012-1797 .- 1939-327X. ; 65:9, s. 2667-2675
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Gastric bypass (GBP) surgery, one of the most common bariatric procedures, induces weight loss and metabolic effects. The mechanisms are not fully understood, but reduced food intake and effects on gastrointestinal hormones are thought to contribute. We recently observed that GBP patients have lowered glucose levels and frequent asymptomatic hypoglycemic episodes. Here, we subjected patients before and after undergoing GBP surgery to hypoglycemia and examined symptoms and hormonal and autonomic nerve responses. Twelve obese patients without diabetes (8 women, mean age 43.1 years [SD 10.8] and BMI 40.6 kg/m(2) [SD 3.1]) were examined before and 23 weeks (range 19-25) after GBP surgery with hyperinsulinemic-hypoglycemic clamp (stepwise to plasma glucose 2.7 mmol/L). The mean change in Edinburgh Hypoglycemia Score during clamp was attenuated from 10.7 (6.4) before surgery to 5.2 (4.9) after surgery. There were also marked postsurgery reductions in levels of glucagon, cortisol, and catecholamine and the sympathetic nerve responses to hypoglycemia. In addition, growth hormone displayed a delayed response but to a higher peak level. Levels of glucagon-like peptide 1 and gastric inhibitory polypeptide rose during hypoglycemia but rose less postsurgery compared with presurgery. Thus, GBP surgery causes a resetting of glucose homeostasis, which reduces symptoms and neurohormonal responses to hypoglycemia. Further studies should address the underlying mechanisms as well as their impact on the overall metabolic effects of GBP surgery.

  • A measurement of the t dependence of the helicity structure of diffractive rho meson electroproduction at HERA
  • 2002
  • Ingår i: Physics Letters. Section B: Nuclear, Elementary Particle and High-Energy Physics. - 0370-2693. ; 539:1-2, s. 25-39
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The helicity structure of the diffractive electroproduction of rho mesons, e + p --> e + rho + Y, is studied in a previously unexplored region of large four-momentum transfer squared at the proton vertex, t: 0 < t' < 3 GeV2, where t' = - min. The data used are collected with the HI detector at HERA in the kinematic domain 2.5 < Q(2) < 60 GeV2, 40 < W < 120 GeV No t dependence of the r(00)(04) spin density matrix element is found. A significant t dependent helicity non-conservation from the virtual photon to the rho meson is observed for the spin density matrix element combinations r(00)(5) + 2r(11)(5) and r(00)(1) + 2r(11)(1). These t dependences are consistently described by a perturbative QCD model based on the exchange of two gluons.

  • Diffractive photoproduction of psi(2S) mesons at HERA
  • 2002
  • Ingår i: Physics Letters. Section B: Nuclear, Elementary Particle and High-Energy Physics. - 0370-2693. ; 541:3-4, s. 251-264
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Results on diffractive photoproduction of psi(2S) mesons are presented using data collected between 1996 and 2000 with the H1 detector at the HERA ep collider. The data correspond to an integrated luminosity of 77 pb(-1). The energy dependence of the diffractive psi(2S) cross section is found to be similar to or possibly somewhat steeper than that for J/psi mesons. The dependences of the elastic and proton dissociative psi(2S) photoproduction cross sections on the squared momentum transfer t at the proton vertex are measured. The t-dependence of the elastic channel, parametrised as e(bt), yields b(el)(psi(2S)) = (4.31 +/- 0.57 +/- 0.46) GeV-2, compatible with that of the J/psi. For the proton dissociative channel the result b(pd)(psi(2S)) = (0.59 +/- 0.13 +/- 0.12) GeV-2 is 2.3 standard deviations smaller than that measured for the J/psi. With proper account of the individual wavefunctions theoretical predictions based on perturbative QCD are found to describe the measurements well. (C) 2002 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

  • Energy flow and rapidity gaps between jets in photoproduction at HERA
  • 2002
  • Ingår i: European Physical Journal C. Particles and Fields. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1434-6044. ; 24:4, s. 517-527
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Dijet events in photon-proton collisions in which there is a large pseudorapidity separation, Deltaeta > 2.5 between the two highest E-T jets are studied with the H1 detector at HERA. The inclusive dijet cross sections are measured as functions of the longitudinal momentum fractions of the proton and photon which participate in the production of the jets, x(p)(jets) and x(gamma)(jets) respectively, Deltaeta, the pseudorapidity P separation between the two highest E-T jets, and E-T(gap), the total summed transverse energy between the jets. Rapidity gap events are defined as events in which E-T(gap) is less than E-T(cut), for E-T(cut) varied between jets 0.5 and 2.0 GeV. The fraction of dijet events with a rapidity gap is measured differentially in Deltaeta, x(p)(jets) and x(gamma)(jets). An excess of events with rapidity gaps at low values of E-T(cut) is observed above the expectation from standard photoproduction processes. This excess can be explained by the exchange of a strongly interacting colour singlet object between the jets.

  • Inelastic leptoproduction of J/psi mesons at HERA
  • 2002
  • Ingår i: European Physical Journal C. Particles and Fields. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1434-6044. ; 25:1, s. 41-53
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The leptoproduction of J/psi mesons is studied in inelastic reactions for four momentorri transfers 2 < Q(2) < 100GeV(2). The data were taken with the H1 detector at the electron proton collider HERA and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 77 pb(-1). Single differential and double differential cross sections are measured with increased precision compared with previous analyses. New leading order calculations within the non-relativistic QCD factorisation approach including colour octet and colour singlet contributions are compared with the data and are found to give a reasonable description of most distributions. An exception is the shape of the distribution in the J/psi fractional energy. z, which deviates significantly from that of the data. Comparisons with photoproduction are made and the polarisation of the produced J/psi meson is analysed.

  • Inelastic photoproduction of J/psi mesons at HERA
  • 2002
  • Ingår i: European Physical Journal C. Particles and Fields. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1434-6044. ; 25:1, s. 25-39
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • An analysis of inelastic photoproduction of J/psi mesons is presented using data collected at the ep collider HERA corresponding to an integrated luminosity of above 80 pb(-1), Differential and double I < P-t/psi(2) < differential cross sections are measured in a wide kinematic region: 60 < W-gammap < 260 GeV, 1 p(t,psi)(2) < 60 GeV2 and 0.05 < z < 0.9. where z is the fraction of the energy of the exchanged photon transferred to the J/psi meson in the rest frame of the target proton. Cross sections at z less than or similar to 0.3 are presented for the first time. Theoretical calculations within the Colour Singlet Model at NLO for direct photon processes are shown to give a good description of the data in the medium z region (0.3 < z < 0.9) up to the highest p(t,psi)(2) values. A calculation using a k(t) factorisation approach in LO in the Colour Singlet Model is also able to describe these data. The data in the full z range are also compared to LO calculations within a non-relativistic QCD framework including colour octet and colour singlet contributions for direct and resolved photons. It seems possible to reconcile data and theory with modest contributions from colour octet processes. The polarisation of the J/psi meson is measured as a function of z and p(t,psi) and is reasonably described by the theoretical predictions.
