  • Systematic cognitive monitoring of children with cerebral palsy : the development of an assessment and follow-up protocol
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Scandinavian Journal of Disability Research. - : Taylor & Francis Group. - 1501-7419 .- 1745-3011. ; 18:4, s. 304-315
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Cerebral palsy (CP) is associated with cognitive impairments, learning difficulties and reduced social participation. Individual assessment is necessary for individually tailored interventions. This paper describes the development of a systematic follow-up programme of cognition, and the challenges of integrating it into the regular follow-up of children with CP. Initiated by the Nordic users‘ organisations, a group of psychologists proposed a protocol of follow-up of cognition in children with CP – the CP Cog. This protocol consists of neuropsychological instruments covering general cognitive functioning, visuospatial and executive functioning. The article presents a natural experiment describing development and implementation of the cognitive protocol in three Scandinavian countries. This introduction illustrates challenges associated with implementation, especially how the success of the protocol hinges on structural backup within the different countries. In conclusion the CP Cog assessment protocol holds the promise of increasing the awareness among habilitation professionals that children with CP are in need of cognitive evaluation and educational support. © 2015 Nordic Network on Disability Research

  • Exploring mentorship practices in clinical education in nursing homes : A qualitative mixed-methods study
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Journal of Clinical Nursing. - : John Wiley & Sons. - 0962-1067 .- 1365-2702. ; 31:7-8, s. 895-908
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Aims and objectives: To explore registered nurses' mentorship practices of first-year nursing students in nursing home placements. Background: Enabling nursing students to develop professional competence through clinical placements relies heavily on registered nurses' mentorship practices. Despite renewed interest in nursing homes as an important clinical placement setting, studies are scarce on registered nurses' mentorship practices in this context.Design: An exploratory, qualitative mixed-methods design. Methods: The data consisted of 126 h' observation of two registered nurse mentor-student dyads, supplemented by in-depth interviews (n = 12) with registered nurse mentors. The data were collected in three Norwegian nursing homes and analysed using content analysis. The consolidated criteria for reporting qualitative research (COREQ) checklist were used to report the findings. Results: The registered nurses' mentorship practices of first-year nursing students in nursing home clinical placement were characterised by (1) variability and uncertainty in pedagogical supervisory approaches, (2) lack of management support and engagement of staff members in supervision, (3) lack of supervisory continuity and (4) a peripheral role in formal assessment discussions. Conclusions: A marginal nursing home context, alongside a mismatch between registered nurses' roles and first-year students' learning objectives, introduces considerable vulnerability that impedes effective mentorship practices. Targeted efforts to enhance mentorship practices in nursing homes are warranted to promote full use of the learning potential in this context. Developing and testing educational interventions is necessary to effectively enhance registered nurses' pedagogical competence, alongside engagement and support from nurse managers and nurse educators.Relevance to clinical practice: This study provides insight into barriers to effective mentorship practices of first-year nursing students in nursing home placements. These barriers warrant attention from nursing home managers and nurse education institutions towards improvements that enhance effective mentorship practices vital for students' learning, professional growth and future recruitment to care for older people.

  • K/graphite: Uniform energy shifts of graphite valence states
  • 2006
  • Ingår i: Surface Science. - : Elsevier BV. - 0039-6028 .- 1879-2758. ; 600:5, s. 1160-1164
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Ultra-thin graphite overlayers prepared by heating SiC crystals can give highly resolved valence band photoemission spectra. This is exploited to monitor K deposition induced energy shifts of graphite valence band states. States near the corners of the Brillouin zone, responsible for the semimetal character of graphite, are observed to show shifts that are nearly equal to the shifts of the uppermost filled sigma state and of an empty state 7.6 eV above EF. The results give credence to the rigid band shift model often used to discuss the electronic structure and charge transfer for graphite ad- and absorption systems. (c) 2006 Elsevier B.V. • Narrow photoemission lines from graphite valence states
  • 2002
  • Ingår i: Physical Review B. Condensed Matter and Materials Physics. - 1098-0121 .- 1550-235X. ; 66:23
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Valence-band photoelectron angular distributions, measured in the photon energy range 20-150 eV, are obtained from crystalline graphite overlayers prepared by heating SiC(0001) and from a graphite natural single crystal. The dispersion of the valence bands for the overlayers agrees well with that of the single crystal. The valence electrons have binding energies, which agree with LDA calculations if the calculated binding energies are multiplied by a factor of 1.13. The upper sigma state at Gamma and states near the Fermi level at the zone corners give quite narrow emission lines. Since the widths are on par with that of the C 1s level the lines are of interest as an alternative to the core line when graphite is used as substrate for adsorption or absorption studies.

  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We employ a pump-probe approach to molecular photoionization to study fast dissociation of Rydberg states in acetylene. By using time-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy to study the electronic state of the resulting ions we are able to monitor the system continuously during dissociation or rearrangement. We find that the predissociative lifetime for the 3R‴ (v′2 = 1) Rydberg state is about 150 fs. We demonstrate a powerful new technique using time-correlated femtosecond harmonic generation and laser light pulses to study the time evolution of ultrafast dynamic processes in molecules.

  • Narrow UV photoemission lines from graphite
  • 2002
  • Ingår i: 7th International Conference on Nanometer-Scale Science andTechnology and 21st European Conference on Surface Science.
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Stimulated by the recent observation by LEED that well ordered graphite overlayers may be prepared by heating SiC crystals [1] we have used LEED, STM and UPS (hv = 20-140 eV) to study such layers and compared the photoemission spectra to those we obtain from a natural single crystal. Two results are of particular interest. One is that the overlayers give spectra having a quality well on par with those from the natural crystal. This means that the overlayers can be attractive as an alternative to natural crystals, which are inconveniently small for many experiments. The other result is that there are graphite states, which give quite narrow emission lines. One is due to the upper σ state at Γ and another to states near the Fermi level, which for graphite means states at the zone corners. Both lines should be useful for ador absorption studies as an alternative to the C 1s core line and the σ line may provide testing ground for the current modeling of excitation lifetimes in graphite.
