  • New rare and threatened species of Peponidium and Pyrostria (Rubiaceae, Vanguerieae) from the drylands of Madagascar
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: Candollea. - 0373-2967 .- 2235-3658. ; 79:1, s. 53-62
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Four new species of the tribe Vanguerieae (Rubiaceae) from southern, southwestern and western Madagascar are described and illustrated. Two species belong to the genus Pyrostria Comm. ex Juss.: P. costata Klack. & Razafim. with small leaves and distinctly ribbed pollen presenters and fruits, and P. macrocarpa Klack. & Razafim. characterized by its large, obconical, 5 – 6-lobed fruits. The other two species belong to the Malagasy subendemic genus Peponidium Ar.nes: P. leroyi Klack. & Razafim., characterized by hairy leaves with ciliate margins, sparsely pubescent flowers and ribbed pollen presenters, and P. sessile Klack. & Razafim., distinct by its cordate almost sessile leaves and double-tipped corolla lobes. Risk of extinction assessments for all four species are presented, as well as the respective distribution maps.

  • New species of Apocynaceae from Madagascar
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Willdenowia. - : Botanic Garden and Botanical Museum Berlin, Freie Universitaet Berlin. - 0511-9618 .- 1868-6397. ; 49:2, s. 209-229
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Preparation of a treatment of the family Apocynaceae for the Flore de Madagascar et des Comoresnecessitates the description of 11 new species and one new variety in subfamilies Periplocoideae (Baroniella effusa, Pentopetia suarezensis) and Secamonoideae (Calyptranthera punctulata, C. rosea, Pervillaea lanata, Secamone chouxii, S. dictyoneura, S. furcata, S. glabra, S. laevis, S. parviflora and S. toxocarpoides var. incana). Furthermore, an amended description of Pervillaea tomentosa is provided necessitated by an earlier confusion of this taxon with P. brevirostris (here synonymized) and with the new species P. lanata.

  • The genus Exacum (Gentianaceae)
  • 1985
  • Doktorsavhandling (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • In this monograph the paleotropical genus Exacum (Gentianaceae) is revised. Sixtyfive species are recognized. Of these, 21 species occur in Ceylon, India and SE Asia, 4 in Socotra and Oman, 38 in Madagascar and 2 in continental Africa. Twenty-three new species are described, one of which, E. grande Klack., from India and the remaining, viz. E. amplexicaule Klack., E. anisopterum Klack., E. appendiculatum Klack., E. conglomeratum Klack., E. dipterum Klack., E. dol ichantherum Klack.E. exiguum Klack., E. giganteum Klack., E. gracile Klack., E. humbertii Klack., E. intermedium Klack., E. latifolium Klack.,E. naviculare Klack., E. nossibeense Klack., E. microcarpum Klack., E. penni- nerve Klack., E. rotundifolium Klack., E, speciosum Klack., E. stenophyllum Klack., E. stenopterum Klack., E. umbellatum Klack, and E. undulatum Klack., from Madagascar. New combinations and names are: E. 1 inearifoliuiiTTHumbert) Klack., E. oldenlandioides (S. Moore) Klack., and E. subteres Klack. Two sections are presented, viz. section Exacum comprising 21 species in Asia and section Africana Klack, comprising 44 species in Africa (including Madagascar and Socotra). Various aspects of the morphology are discussed including micromorphology of seeds and pollen grains as seen by means of SEM. A key as well as typification, maps and drawings of all species are given. A hypothesis of the cladistic relationship of the species of Exacum is presented and discussed with reference to related genera. Phytogeography and vicariance patterns within the genus in general, and the Asiatic taxa in particular, are discussed.

  • Three new species of Vanguerieae (Rubiaceae) from Madagascar
  • 2007
  • Ingår i: Adansonia. - 1280-8571 .- 1639-4798. ; 29:1, s. 129-136
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Three new species of the tribe Vanguerieae (Rubiaceae) from Madagascar aredescribed with illustrations. Two species are placed in Pyrostria, one in Peponi-dium. Peponidium crassifolium is recognized by its thick and slightly succulentleaves, Pyrostria pendula by the pendulous flowers and persistent pedicels, andPyrostria serpentina by a serpentine habit and small leaves. The morphology andtaxonomic history of the dioecious genera of the tribe are discussed.
