  • The future of workplace commitment : Key questions and directions
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: European Journal of Work and Organizational Psychology. - : Taylor & Francis (Routledge): STM, Behavioural Science and Public Health Titles. - 1464-0643 .- 1359-432X. ; 27:2, s. 153-167
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This position paper presents the state-of-the art of the field of workplace commitment. Yet, for workplace commitment to stay relevant, it is necessary to look beyond current practice and to extrapolate trends to envision what will be needed in future research. Therefore, the aim of this paper is twofold, first, to consolidate our current understanding of workplace commitment in contemporary work settings and, second, to look into the future by identifying and discussing avenues for future research. Representative of the changing nature of work, we explicitly conceptualize workplace commitment in reference to (A) Temporary work, and (B) Cross-boundary work. Progressing from these two themes, conceptual, theoretical and methodological advances of the field are discussed. The result is the identification of 10 key paths of research to pursues, a shared agenda for the most promising and needed directions for future research and recommendations for how these will translate into practice.

  • Digital Borderlands : Cultural Studies of Identity and Interactivity on the Internet
  • 2002
  • Bok (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • The Internet crosses established boundaries of previously separate fields of communication and research. In its wake, new borderlands are opened up - characterized by mixes of private and public, production and consumption, and play and politics. This book explores those borderlands and overviews key issues in the study of Internet culture. Digital Borderlands investigates four ways in which identities are shaped through interactive uses of the Internet - love relations, gendered bodies, girl webzines, and cosmopolitan sites all exemplify how new media transforms older forms of popular entertainment and political culture.

  • Integritetsdebatten åren kring 1984 : Transkript av ett vittnesseminarium vid Tekniska museet iStockholm den 30 november 2007
  • 2008
  • Rapport (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    •  The witness seminar ”Integritetsdebatten åren kring 1984” [The Privacy Debate Around 1984] was held at the National Museum of Science and Technology in Stockholm on 30 November 2007. The seminar was moderated by Lars Ilshammar and Kajsa Klein. A main focus of the discussion was if and how George Orwell’s book influenced the Swedish privacy debate in the mid 80s. Most panellists agreed that 1984 had had limited importance in the Swedish context and that Orwell’s major achievement was to formulate a one-liner. Several other fictional accounts were brought up as comparison. Also clear from the discussion was that in Sweden, the privacy debate had ever since the late 1960s had both left- and rightwing dimensions. There were thus Marxist, as well as conservative arguments, about how computers were used by financial elite and the authorities to control the people. Generally speaking, however, the mid 80s were characterized by a move towards greater individualism and more widespread computer use. Emphasis in the discussion was put on the different actors and it was agreed that an important driving force behind the privacy debate was the Swedish Data Inspection Board, headed by the PR savvy director Jan Freese. Different examples were given of actions taken (and not taken) by this institution and also of internal conflicts within the board. The labor movement was on the other hand relatively silent and compared to its counterparts in other countries positive to computer use. Finally, a central theme during the seminar discussion was also the great controversy surrounding the sociological research project Metropolitan “revealed” in 1986. The role of the news media as investigator and scandalizer in this case was examined and debated. Two of the seminar participants were part of the Metropolitan cohort and presented their differing views about this project. While there was still disagreement about to what extent the project had been invasive and concealed, it was nevertheless concluded that especially the tabloids Aftonbladet and Expressen were responsible for exaggerations and fear-mongering in their reporting. In addition, the role of the Swedish Data Inspection Board was again discussed.

  • Effect Modification between Genes and Environment and Parkinson's Disease Risk
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Annals of Neurology. - : Wiley. - 0364-5134 .- 1531-8249. ; 92:5, s. 715-724
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Parkinson's disease (PD) is a complex neurodegenerative condition in which genetic and environmental factors interact to contribute to its etiology. Remarkable progress has been made in deciphering disease etiology through genetic approaches, but there is limited data about how environmental and genetic factors interact to modify penetrance, risk, and disease severity. Here, we provide insights into environmental modifiers of PD, discussing precedents from other neurological and non-neurological conditions. Based on these examples, we outline genetic and environmental factors contributing to PD and review potential environmental modifiers of penetrance and clinical variability in monogenic and idiopathic PD. We also highlight the potential challenges and propose how future studies might tackle these important questions. ANN NEUROL 2022.

  • The power-speed relationship is U-shaped in two free-flying hawkmoths (Manduca sexta)
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Journal of the Royal Society Interface. - : The Royal Society. - 1742-5689 .- 1742-5662. ; 14:134
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A flying animal can minimize its energy consumption by choosing an optimal flight speed depending on the task at hand. Choice of flight speed can be predicted by modelling the aerodynamic power required for flight, and this tool has previously been used extensively in bird migration research. For insects, however, it is uncertain whether any of the commonly used power models are useful, as insects often operate in a very different flow regime from vertebrates. To investigate this, we measured aerodynamic power in the wake of two Manduca sexta flying freely in a wind tunnel at 1-3.8 ms-1, using tomographic particle image velocimetry (tomo-PIV). The expended power was similar in magnitude to that predicted by two classic models. However, the most ubiquitously used model, originally intended for vertebrates, failed to predict the sharp increase in power at higher speeds, leading to an overestimate of predicted flight speed during longer flights. In addition to measuring aerodynamic power, the tomo-PIV system yielded a highly detailed visualization of thewake, which proved to be significantly more intricate than could be inferred from previous smoke trail- and two-dimensional-PIV studies.
