  • Controllable Magnetic Doping of the Surface State of a Topological Insulator
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: Physical Review Letters. - 0031-9007 .- 1079-7114. ; 110:12, s. 126804-
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A combined experimental and theoretical study of doping individual Fe atoms into Bi2Se3 is presented. It is shown through a scanning tunneling microscopy study that single Fe atoms initially located at hollow sites on top of the surface (adatoms) can be incorporated into subsurface layers by thermally activated diffusion. Angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy in combination with ab initio calculations suggest that the doping behavior changes from electron donation for the Fe adatom to neutral or electron acceptance for Fe incorporated into substitutional Bi sites. According to first principles calculations within density functional theory, these Fe substitutional impurities retain a large magnetic moment, thus presenting an alternative scheme for magnetically doping the topological surface state. For both types of Fe doping, we see no indication of a gap at the Dirac point. DOI: 10.1103/PhysRevLett.110.126804

  • Estimation of diameter and surface area flux of bubbles based on operational gas dispersion parameters by using regression and ANFIS
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Mining Science and Technology. - : Elsevier. - 2095-2686. ; 23:3, s. 343-348
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Adaptive neuro fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) procedure and regression methods were used to predict the Sauter mean bubble (bubble diameter) and surface area flux of the bubble in a flotation process. The operational conditions of flotation, impeller peripheral speed, superficial gas velocity, and weight percent solids were used as inputs of methods. By using the mentioned operational conditions, the non linear regression results showed that Sauter mean, and surface area flux of the bubble are predictable variables, where the coefficients of determination (R2) are 0.57 and 0.74, respectively. To increase the accuracy of prediction an ANFIS model with cluster radius of 0.4 was applied. ANFIS model was capable of estimating both Sauter mean, and surface area flux of the bubble, where in a testing stage, satisfactory correlations, R2 = 0.78, and 0.86, were achieved for Sauter mean, and surface area flux of bubble, respectively. Results show that the proposed ANFIS model can accurately estimate outputs and be used in order to predict the parameters without having to conduct the new experiments in a laboratory.

  • Acidic sulphate leaching of chalcopyrite concentrates in presence of pyrite
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: Minerals Engineering. - : Elsevier BV. - 0892-6875 .- 1872-9444. ; 24:5, s. 381-386
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Copper concentrates with mineralogy dominated by chalcopyrite have slow leaching kinetics at atmospheric pressure in sulphate media because of the formation of passivation layer on its surface during the leaching. To enhance the leaching rate of the copper concentrate, pyrite was added to act as a catalyst. Pyrite and copper sulphide minerals then form a galvanic cell which increases both the copper leaching rate and yield. Effect of parameters such as solution redox potential, temperature, initial acid concentration, solids content, total initial iron concentration and pyrite to copper sulphide minerals mass ratio were investigated. Mineralogical analyses by XRD were performed on selected leach residues and the feed materials. A copper recovery higher than 80% in 24 h was achieved at a redox potential of 410 mV vs Ag, AgCl, a temperature of 85 °C, 15 g/L of initial acid concentration, a solid content of 7.8% (w/v), a total initial iron concentration 5 g/L and pyrite to copper sulphide minerals mass ratio 2:1. XRD patterns on leach residues showed that candidates for surface passivation, i.e. jarosite and elemental sulphur, were formed at high total initial iron concentrations
