    • A series of Eu2+ doped Cs1-xRbxCaBr3 solid solutions were grown using the Bridgman-Stockbarger technique. Their photoluminescence and scintillation properties are studied. Upon optical and X-ray excitation, the Cs1-xRbxCaBr3 and Eu2+ activated samples show a band, which can be attributed to the 5d-4f transition in Eu2+. The decay time constants become shorter with increasing Rb content and lie in the range of 3-4 mu s. The scintillation performance of solid solutions Cs1-xRbxCa0. 95Eu0.05Br3 is improved compared with the end members (CsCa0.95Eu0.05Br3 and RbCa0.95Eu0.05Br3). The best energy resolution of 6.4% at 662 keV was determined for Cs0.2Rb0.8Ca0.95Eu0.05Br3 , and the best light yield, equal to 61.2% of Nal:TI, was demonstrated by Cs0.4Rb0.6Ca0.95Eu0.05Br3.

    • A series of Cs0.2Rb0.8Ca1-xEuxBr3 (0 <= x <= 0.08) crystals doped with different concentrations of Eu2+ were grown using the Bridgman-Stockbarger method. The work describes the influence of Eu2+ concentration on the luminescent and kinetic properties of Cs0.2Rb0.8Ca1-xEuxBr3 crystals, as well as on their scintillation performance. The maximum in the radioluminescence spectra of these crystals shifts from 439 to 446 nm with increasing europium concentration. The scintillation decay times of Cs0.2Rb0.8Ca1-xEuxBr3 lengthen with the Eu2+ content. The best light output of 33600 photons/MeV is obtained for Cs0.2Rb0.8Ca0.93Eu0.07Br3, and the best energy resolution of 6.9% is found for Cs0.2Rb0.8Ca0.94Eu0.06Br3.

    • The processes of coherent bremsstrahlung (CB) and coherent pair production (CPP) based on aligned crystal targets have been studied in the energy range 20-170 GeV. The experimental arrangement allowed for measurements of single photon properties of these phenomena including their polarization dependences. This is significant as the theoretical description of CB and CPP is an area of active debate and development. With the approach used in this paper, both the measured cross sections and polarization observables are predicted very well. This indicates a proper understanding of CB and CPP up to energies of 170 GeV. Birefringence in CPP on aligned crystals is applied to determine the polarization parameters in our measurements. New technologies for high-energy photon beam optics including phase plates and polarimeters for linear and circular polarization are demonstrated in this experiment. Coherent bremsstrahlung for the strings-on-strings (SOS) orientation yields a larger enhancement for hard photons than CB for the channeling orientations of the crystal. Our measurements and our calculations indicate low photon polarizations for the high-energy SOS photons.
