  • In vivo intrinsic atomic interaction infer molecular eco-toxicity of industrial TiO(2 )nanoparticles via oxidative stress channelized steatosis and apoptosis in Paramecium caudatum
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Ecotoxicology and Environmental Safety. - : Elsevier. - 0147-6513 .- 1090-2414. ; 241
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The ecotoxicological effect of after-usage released TiO2 nanoparticles in aquatic resources has been a major concern owing to their production and utilization in different applications. Addressing the issue, this study investigates the detailed in vivo molecular toxicity of TiO2 nanoparticles with Paramecium caudatum. TiO2 nano particles were synthesized at a lab scale using high energy ball milling technique; characterized for their physicochemical properties and investigated for their ecotoxicological impact on oxidative stress, steatosis, and apoptosis of cells through different biochemical analysis, flow cytometry, and fluorescent microscopy. TiO2 nanoparticles; TiO2 (N15); of size 36 +/- 12 nm were synthesized with a zeta potential of 20.2 +/- 8.8 mV and bandgap of 4.6 +/- 0.3 eV and exhibited a blue shift in UV-spectrum. Compared to the Bulk TiO2, the TiO2 (N15) exhibited higher cytotoxicity with a 24 h LC50 of 202.4 mu g/ml with P. Caudatum. The mechanism was elucidated as the size and charge-dependent internalization of nanoparticles leading to abnormal physiological metabolism in oxidative stress, steatosis, and apoptosis because of their influential effect on the activity of metabolic proteins like SOD, GSH, MDA, and catalase. The study emphasized the controlled usage TiO2 nanoparticles in daily activity with a concern for ecological and biomedical aspects.

  • Proximal discrepancies in intrinsic atomic interaction determines comparative in vivo biotoxicity of Chlorpyrifos and 3,5,6-trichloro-2-pyridinol in embryonic zebrafish
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: Science of the Total Environment. - : Elsevier. - 0048-9697 .- 1879-1026. ; 913
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Bioaccumulation of Chlorpyrifos (CP) as pesticides due to their aggrandized use in agriculture has raised serious concern on the health of ecosystem and human beings. Moreover, their degraded products like 3,5,6-trichloro-2pyridinol (TCP) has enhanced the distress due to their unpredictable biotoxicity. This study evaluates and deduce the comparative in vivo mechanistic biotoxicity of CP and TCP with zebrafish embryos through experimental and computational approach. Experimental cellular and molecular analysis showed higher induction of morphological abnormalities, oxidative stress and apoptosis in TCP exposed embryos compared to CP exposure due to upregulation of metabolic enzymes like Zhe1a, Sod1 and p53. Computational analysis excavated the differential discrepancies in intrinsic atomic interaction as a reason of disparity in biotoxicity of CP and TCP. The mechanistic differences were deduced due to the differential accumulation and internalisation leading to variable interaction with metabolic enzymes for oxidative stress and apoptosis causing physiological and morphological abnormalities. The study unravelled the information of in vivo toxicity at cellular and molecular level to advocate the attention of taking measures for management of CP as well as TCP for environmental and human health.

  • Study of composition dependent structural, optical, and magnetic properties of Cu-doped Zn1-xCdxS nanoparticles
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: Journal of Applied Physics. - : AIP Publishing. - 0021-8979 .- 1089-7550. ; 108:12, s. 123519-
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Cu-doped Zn1-xCdxS nanoparticles were synthesized by coprecipitation technique in ice bath at 280 K. The band gap energy of Zn1-xCdxS:Cu nanoparticles can be tuned to a lower energy by increasing the Cd content, indicating the formation of the alloyed nanoparticles. The alloy structure is further supported by the systematic shifting of characteristic x-ray diffraction peaks to lower angles with increase in Cd content. Systematic copper doping induces a red shift in the energy band gap of Zn0.9Cd0.1S:Cu nanoparticles with increase in copper concentration. Cu-doped Zn0.9Cd0.1S nanoparticles were found to have ferromagnetic nature at 5 K whereas undoped particles were found to be diamagnetic. Green luminescence further proves proper doping of Cu into the ZnCdS matrix. It is believed that the green luminescence originates from the recombination between the shallow donor level (sulfur vacancy) and the t(2) level of Cu2+. This method provides an inexpensive and simple procedure to produce ternary ZnCdS: Cu nanoparticles with tunable optical properties via changing Cd and/or Cu concentrations.

  • A Bi-based artificial interphase to achieve ultra-long cycling life of Al-metal anode in non-aqueous electrolyte
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: Energy Storage Materials. - 2405-8297. ; 65
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Rechargeable aluminum-ion batteries (RAB) with Al-metal anode are regarded as cost-effective and environmentally sustainable energy storage systems. However, tapping the high volumetric capacity of the Al-anode has been a challenge because of the spontaneous and irreversible formation of the oxide layer on its surface that renders it electrochemically inactive. Though recently reported AlCl3-based electrolytes overcome this problem by breaking down this oxide layer, their highly corrosive nature hampers commercialization. Here, we investigate a novel approach to protect the Al-anode from severe oxidation by engineering an artificial protective interphase. A unique and less corrosive combination of Al(CF3SO3)3 salt and BiCl3 additive reacts with the Al-anode intrinsically to form an inorganic-rich protective bilayer. This layer is electronically insulating and significantly reduces the charge transfer resistance and surface activation energy at the anode, enabling plating/stripping at extremely low overpotential of <0.1 V that can be sustained for record-long cycling times of >4000 h.

  • Local global equivalence for unanimous social choice functions
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Games and Economic Behavior. - : Elsevier. - 0899-8256 .- 1090-2473. ; 130, s. 299-308
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We identify a condition on preference domains that ensures that every locally strategy-proof and unanimous random social choice function is also strategy-proof. Furthermore every unanimous, locally strategy-proof deterministic social choice function is also group strategy-proof. The condition identified is significantly weaker than the characterization condition for local-global equivalence without unanimity in Kumar et al. (2020). The condition is not necessary for equivalence with unanimous random/deterministic social choice functions. However, we show the weaker condition of connectedness remains necessary.

  • Local-global equivalence in voting models: A characterization and applications
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Theoretical Economics. - 1933-6837 .- 1555-7561. ; 16:4, s. 1195-1220
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The paper considers a voting model where each voter's type is her preference. The type graph for a voter is a graph whose vertices are the possible types of the voter. Two vertices are connected by an edge in the graph if the associated types are “neighbors.” A social choice function is locally strategy-proof if no type of a voter can gain by misrepresentation to a type that is a neighbor of her true type. A social choice function is strategy-proof if no type of a voter can gain by misrepresentation to an arbitrary type. Local-global equivalence (LGE) is satisfied if local strategy-proofness implies strategy-proofness. The paper identifies a condition on the graph that characterizes LGE. Our notion of “localness” is perfectly general. We use this feature of our model to identify notions of localness according to which various models of multidimensional voting satisfy LGE. Finally, we show that LGE for deterministic social choice functions does not imply LGE for random social choice functions.

  • Molecular intrinsic proximal interaction infer oxidative stress and apoptosis modulated in vivo biocompatibility of P.niruri contrived antibacterial iron oxide nanoparticles with zebrafish
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Environmental Pollution. - : ELSEVIER SCI LTD. - 0269-7491 .- 1873-6424. ; 267
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Extensive use of magnetic iron oxide (magnetite) nanoparticles (IONP) has raised concerns about their biocompatibility. It has also stimulated the search for its green synthesis with greater biocompatibility. Addressing the issue, this study investigates the molecular nanotoxicity of IONP with embryonic and adult zebrafish, and reveal novel green fabrication of iron oxide nanoparticles (P-IONP) using medicinal plant extract of Phyllanthus niruri. The synthesized P-IONP was having a size of 42 +/- 08 nm and a zeta potential of -38 +/- 06 mV with hydrodynamic diameter of 109 +/- 09 nm and 90emu/g magnetic saturation value. High antibacterial efficacy of P-IONP was found against E.coli. Comparative in vivo biocompatibility assessment with zebrafish confirmed higher biocompatibility of P-IONP compared to commercial C-IONP in the relevance of mortality rate, hatching rate, heart rate, and morphological abnormalities. LC50 of P-IONP and C-IONP was 202 mg/ml and 126 mg/ml, respectively. Molecular nanobiocompatibility analysis revealed the phenomenon as an effect of induced apoptosis lead by dysregulation of induced oxidative stress due to structural and functional influence of IONP to Sod1 and Tp53 proteins through intrinsic atomic interaction.

  • Photoluminescence measurements in the phase transition region of Zn1-x Cd (x) S films
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: Journal of nanoparticle research. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1388-0764 .- 1572-896X. ; 12:4, s. 1415-1421
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Thin films of Zn1-x Cd (x) S (0.1 a parts per thousand currency sign x a parts per thousand currency sign 0.5) were prepared by using pulsed laser ablation technique on corning glass substrates. Phase transition from cubic to hexagonal in Zn1-x Cd (x) S films is determined by X-ray diffraction analysis. We observed a lowering in the phase transition temperature with increase in the cadmium concentration. Transmission electron microscopy suggests the crystalline nature of thin films with average particle size of 15 nm. The grown Zn1-x Cd (x) S samples show the high peak intensity ratio of the near band edge emission to the defect center luminescence even at room temperature, which indicates the small concentration of complex defects in the samples. Photoluminescence measurement show stoichiometric dependence of the energy band gap and is found to have quadratic dependence on x.

  • α-Hemolysin of uropathogenic E. coli regulates NLRP3 inflammasome activation and mitochondrial dysfunction in THP-1 macrophages
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Scientific Reports. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 2045-2322. ; 10:1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Hemolysin expressing UPEC strains have been associated with severe advanced kidney pathologies, such as cystitis and pyelonephritis, which are associated with an inflammatory response. Macrophages play an important role in regulating an inflammatory response during a urinary tract infection. We have studied the role of purified recombinant α-hemolysin in inducing inflammatory responses and cell death in macrophages. Acylation at lysine residues through HlyC is known to activate proHlyA into a fully functional pore-forming toxin, HlyA. It was observed that active α-hemolysin (HlyA) induced cleavage of caspase-1 leading to the maturation of IL-1β, while inactive α-hemolysin (proHlyA) failed to do so in THP-1 derived macrophages. HlyA also promotes deubiquitination, oligomerization, and activation of the NLRP3 inflammasome, which was found to be dependent on potassium efflux. We have also observed the co-localization of NLRP3 within mitochondria during HlyA stimulations. Moreover, blocking of potassium efflux improved the mitochondrial health in addition to a decreased inflammatory response. Our study demonstrates that HlyA stimulation caused perturbance in potassium homeostasis, which led to the mitochondrial dysfunction followed by an acute inflammatory response, resulting in cell death. However, the repletion of intracellular potassium stores could avoid HlyA induced macrophage cell death. The findings of this study will help to understand the mechanism of α-hemolysin induced inflammatory response and cell death.
