  • Cloud Logic Programming for Integrating Language Technology Resources
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of LREC 2012. ; Accepted
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The main goal of the CLT Cloud project is to equip lexica, morphological processors, parsers and other software components developed within CLT (Centre of Language Technology) with so called web API:s, thus making them available on the Internet in the form of web services. We present a proof-of-concept implementation of the CLT Cloud server where we use the logic programming language Prolog for composing and aggregating existing web services into new web services in a way that encourages creative exploration and rapid prototyping of LT applications.

  • SCXML for Building Conversational Agents in the Dialog Web Lab
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of The Swedish Language Technology Conference (SLTC) 2012.
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The W3C has selected Harel Statecharts, under the name of State Chart XML (SCXML), as the basis for future stan- dards in the area of (multimodal) dialog systems (Barnett et al. 2012). In an effort to educate people about SCXML we are building a web-based development environment where the dialogs of embodied, spoken conversational agents can be managed and controlled using SCXML, in a playful and interesting manner.

  • Exploring the Web of Coined Catchy Phrases
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of WWW2012: Web Science Track.
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We employ a method inspired by corpus linguistics to illustrate the complexity and multifacetedness of the Web by extracting phrases about the Web from the Web itself. The phrases are divided into semantic categories and analysed with regards to their semantic content and rhetorical functions. We argue that the extracted phrases simultaneously have descriptive content and function as names. We also argue that they are used as rhetorical tools by actors from different groups in society involved in developing the Web, which is why we suggest that they need further attention by scholars interested in Web Science and linguistics.

  • Intro to Web Prolog for Erlangers
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the 18th ACM SIGPLAN International Workshop on Erlang (Erlang ’19), August 18, 2019, Berlin, Germany.. - New York, NY, USA : ACM Press. - 9781450368100
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We describe a programming language called Web Prolog. We think of it as a web programming language, or, more specifically, as a web logic programming language. The language is based on Prolog, with a good pinch of Erlang added. We stay close to traditional Prolog, so close that the vast majority of programs in Prolog textbooks will run without modification. Towards Erlang we are less faithful, picking only features we regard as useful in a web programming language, e.g. features that support concurrency, distribution and intra-process communication. In particular, we borrow features that make Erlang into an actor programming language, and on top of these we define the concept of a pengine – a programming abstraction in the form of a special kind of actor which closely mirrors the behaviour of a Prolog top-level. On top of the pengine abstraction we develop a notion of non-deterministic RPC and the concept of the Prolog Web.

  • Pengines: Web Logic Programming Made Easy
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: Theory and Practice of Logic Programming. - 1471-0684 .- 1475-3081. ; 14:4-5, s. 539-552
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • When developing a (web) interface for a deductive database, functionality required by the client is provided by means of HTTP handlers that wrap the logical data access predicates. These handlers are responsible for converting between client and server data representations and typically include options for paginating results. Designing the web accessible API is difficult because it is hard to predict the exact requirements of clients. Pengines changes this picture. The client provides a Prolog program that selects the required data by accessing the logical API of the server. The pengine infrastructure provides general mechanisms for converting Prolog data and handling Prolog non-determinism. The Pengines library is small (2000 lines Prolog, 150 lines JavaScript). It greatly simplifies defining an AJAX based client for a Prolog program and provides non-deterministic RPC between Prolog processes as well as interaction with Prolog engines similar to Paul Tarau's engines. Pengines are available as a standard package for SWI-Prolog 7.
